4 To Measure Food Temperature
- Pull the probe away from the body of the thermometer to turn it on. Fold the probe in to turn it off.
- Press and hold the °C/°F button for 3 seconds to switch between °C and °F. The selected unit will be remembered.
- Insert the tip of the probe into food being cooked. The thermometer will start measuring internal food temperature.
- Wait until the temperature reading stabilizes on the display.
- Temperature readings can be displayed with a 180° viewing angle.
- Press the LOCK button to hold the temperature for 5 seconds.
- Wash the thermometer under running water after use.
- The thermometer will automatically turn off if the probe is not folded in and no button is pressed for 90 seconds.
- If the thermometer is sleeping (probe not folded) and is moved, it will automatically power on.
5 Calibration
The thermometer has a calibration feature, though it is usually pre-calibrated at the factory.
If you believe the readings are inaccurate after extended use, follow these steps:
- Prepare ice cubes using distilled or purified water.
- Use a thermal insulated bottle, beaker, or cup.
- Fill the container with ice cubes (at least 70% of volume), then top with cold distilled or purified water (no more than 30% of volume).
- Stir and let sit for 10 minutes for temperature equilibration.
- Turn on the thermometer, unscrew and remove the battery cover.
- Immerse the probe in the ice/water mixture, avoiding contact with the container sides. Wait for the reading to drop to its lowest value (around 32°F or 0°C).
- If the ice/water mixture temperature is not between 28°F to 36°F (-2°C to +2°C), remake the mixture.
- Press and hold the CAL button for 5 seconds to enter Calibration mode. "CAL" will display for 3 seconds, followed by the current temperature.
- Press the CAL button once to confirm calibration and exit the mode.
Note: Calibration mode lasts 15 seconds. If not completed, it will exit automatically.
6 Undo-Calibration
To revert to default calibration settings:
- Turn on the thermometer and press the "CAL" button for 5 seconds to enter Calibration mode.
- Press the LOCK button to undo calibration and reset to default settings.
7 Helpful Hints
- Cool the probe with cold water when measuring different foods or meats.
- Wipe the probe tip clean between readings, especially between different food types.
- The thermometer is for temporary, handheld use. Do not leave it in an oven or in extremely hot foods/liquids (over 572°F) for more than 1 minute.
- Take readings in the thickest part of the meat. Avoid touching bone. If the tip touches bone, fat, or is not deep enough, take a second reading.
- Not intended for use by persons under age 12.
8 Care of Your Thermometer
- Avoid touching the stainless steel probe during or immediately after use, as it will be very hot.
- Do not place in dishwasher or submerge in liquid. Clean the probe tip with a soapy sponge, rinse, and dry.
- Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, as this can damage electronic parts and plastic.
- Do not leave the thermometer inserted in food during cooking.
- Remove batteries if storing the unit for more than four months.
