Calibration
The thermometer has a calibration feature, though it is typically calibrated at the factory. If you suspect inaccuracy after extended use, follow these steps:
- Prepare an ice/water mixture: Fill a thermal insulated container (or beaker/cup) with ice cubes (at least 70% volume) and top with cold distilled or purified water (no more than 30% volume).
- Stir the mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes for temperature equilibration.
- Turn on the thermometer. Hold the LOCK/CAL button for 5 seconds to enter Calibration Mode. 'CAL' will flash, followed by the current temperature reading flashing.
- Immerse the probe into the ice/water mixture, ensuring it does not touch the container sides. Wait for the reading to stabilize at its lowest point (around 32°F or 0°C). If the mixture temperature is not between 28°F to 36°F (-2°C to +2°C), remake the mixture.
- Hold the LOCK/CAL button for 3 seconds to confirm calibration and exit Calibration Mode.
Note: Calibration Mode lasts only 15 seconds. If not completed within this time, the thermometer will exit automatically.
Undo-Calibration
To revert to the default calibration setting:
- Turn on the thermometer and hold the LOCK/CAL button for 5 seconds to enter Calibration Mode.
- When the temperature reading flashes, press and hold the LIGHT button for 3 seconds. The reading will stop flashing, indicating the default calibration is restored.
Helpful Hints
- To ensure accuracy when measuring different foods, rinse the probe tip with cold water between readings.
- Wipe the probe tip clean between readings, especially when switching between different food types.
- This thermometer is designed for temporary, hand-held use. Do not use it inside an oven. Do not leave it inserted in extremely hot foods or liquids (above 572°F / 300°C) for more than 1 minute.
- Always take readings from the thickest part of the meat. Avoid touching bone or heavy fat, as this can affect accuracy. Take a second reading if unsure.
- Not intended for use by persons aged 12 years or under.
Care of Your Thermometer
- Avoid touching the stainless steel probe during or immediately after use, as it will be hot.
- Do not expose the unit to extreme high or low temperatures, as this can damage electronic components and plastic parts.
- Do not leave the thermometer inserted in food during the cooking process.
- Remove the battery if the unit will be stored for more than four months.
- Protect the unit from excessive force, shock, dust, extreme temperatures, and humidity.
- Do not immerse the entire unit in water.
- Do not attempt to remove any screws or disassemble the unit.
- Do not dispose of the unit in fire, as it may explode.
- Keep the unit away from children, as small parts may present a choking hazard.
