LEXIN LX-FT4 Motorcycle 4-Way Conference Intercom

User Guide

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the LX-FT4 Motorcycle 4-Way Bluetooth Conference Intercom. This product offers a 2,000-meter (1.2 miles) bike-to-bike full-duplex intercom range and includes Bluetooth stereo wireless helmet headset(s). It is designed for installation in most open face, modular, and full-face helmets.

With the LX-FT4, you can make hands-free calls on your Bluetooth mobile phone, listen to music or GPS navigation voice instructions, and activate wireless intercom for rider-to-rider or rider-to-passenger communication within a 2,000-meter range (for up to four connected units).

The LX-FT4 complies with Bluetooth Specification V4.0, supporting Headset Profile (HSP), Hands-Free Profile (HFP), and Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). It supports universal pairing with most Bluetooth headsets. The unit allows activation of Siri or S-Voice for voice dialing and commands. An integrated FM radio tuner with station scanning is also included.

Superior audio fidelity is provided by high-fidelity, non-ported, ultra-slim helmet HD speakers and a miniature boom microphone offering excellent wind and ambient noise reduction.

The main unit is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion/polymer battery, providing 10-15 hours of active use on a full charge, with over a week of standby time. Please read this User Manual carefully before using the product.

2. Package Contents

How It Works: This diagram illustrates the LX-FT4's connectivity. It shows connections for rider-to-rider intercom (full duplex) and rider-to-passenger intercom (full duplex). It also depicts connections to a GPS device for navigation instructions and to a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone for calls and music playback using the A2DP profile.

3. Installation Instructions

3.1 Mounting the Bracket

Clamp Mount: Mount the bracket between the internal padding and external shell of the helmet. Tighten the two screws connecting the bracket and clamp plate using the Allen wrench. Note: Adjust the thickness of the rubber pad between the clamp plates based on your helmet's size and shape. Extra rubber pads are included in the box; use a thinner one for less thickness or replace the original with a thicker one to increase overall thickness.

3M Tape Mount: As an alternative for mounting the bracket, use the provided 3M tape. Remove the rubber pad from the bracket, peel off the protective backing sheet of the double-sided 3M tape. Adhere the white side to the bracket and the red side to the helmet. Press firmly for 15 seconds and allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours. LEXIN recommends the bracket mounting and notes that 3M tape mounting is an option used at the user's own risk.

3.2 Microphone Placement

For Full Face Helmets: Locate an area in the nose section, just to the left of center, to mount the button microphone. Attach the microphone to the velcro pad and connect it to the headset connector.

For Open Face Helmets: Attach the microphone to the velcro pad and adjust its direction so the triangular mark points towards your mouth. Use the boom microphone holder if necessary to secure the microphone.

3.3 Speaker Placement

Place the speakers into the helmet's inner padding, pushing them firmly against the velcro pads. If the helmet has deep ear pockets, use the provided speaker pads to position the speakers closer to your ears.

3.4 Wire Management

Press the wires into the gap between the helmet liner and shell. Note: The speaker with the shorter wire is for the left ear, and the speaker with the longer wire is for the right ear, which also helps enhance FM radio reception.

3.5 Mounting the Main Unit

Mount the LX-FT4 main unit onto the bracket. Attach the top portion first, then slide the main unit down onto the bracket until it clicks firmly into the bottom portion.

3.6 Removing the Main Unit

To remove the main unit from the bracket, press the top part of the bracket and pull the unit out.

[Diagram showing unit two and unit three, with B button clicked, leading to unit two and three showing blue blinking LEDs. Text: "Click x1", "LED Indicate"]

5.4 To disconnect all: Click the [Jog Dial] on both unit two and unit three.

[Diagram showing unit two and unit three, with Jog Dial clicked, leading to all four units showing blue blinking LEDs. Text: "Click x1", "LED Indicate"]

Note: To maximize effective intercom range, keep in mind that each unit is like a link in a chain. Maintain the chain order for maximum communication range. Unit one or four should always lead or follow, with units two and three in the middle in the correct order (e.g., one: two: three: four, or four: three: two: one).

Note: You will hear a beep sound when starting an intercom talk. It may take a few seconds to connect other units; please wait until all units are connected before talking.

If the bridge units two and three are disconnected, the entire group will be disconnected.

If end unit one or unit four is disconnected, the other three units remain connected.

If one unit loses connection with another, the two units on the same channel remain connected. Follow the connecting instructions above to reconnect the disconnected unit when it is back in intercom range.

If one intercom rider goes out of range during a talk, there may be static, and the intercom may eventually disconnect. In such cases, the LX-FT4 automatically tries to reconnect the rider every eight seconds, indicated by high-tone double beeps, until the connection is reestablished. To stop this attempt, press the [Jog Dial] button.

For four riders to communicate successfully, it is suggested to connect the two bridge units (paired using the [B Button]) first, then connect them to the end units (paired by the [A Button]). Since unit two and unit three act as bridges in the chain, keep them within the stated intercom range to maintain continuous communication.

Tips: To save battery power, disconnect the intercom units when not in use.

Important: A bridge unit cannot be connected with a Bluetooth device (phone or GPS) while it is being used as an Intercom Bridge.

5.4 Universal Pairing

To enter pairing mode: Power on the LX-FT4. Press and hold the [B Button] for about 2 seconds until the LED begins flashing blue and red. Follow the other brand's Bluetooth unit instructions to enter pairing mode. Click the [B Button] on the LX-FT4 to pair. Once pairing starts, the LED on the LX-FT4 unit will flash only blue. Pairing is complete and successful when the LED is blinking blue on both units.

To connect the LX-FT4 unit with another: While in standby mode, double-click the [B Button] on the LX-FT4 unit to connect. Once connected, the LED will flash blue 3 times every 3 seconds on the LX-FT4 units.

To disconnect: Click the [Jog Dial] on the LX-FT4 unit.

Note: You can only initiate the intercom from an LX-FT4 unit.

5.5 FM Radio

5.6 Function Priority

The LX-FT4 operates in the following order of priority:

  1. Mobile phone (highest)
  2. Intercom
  3. Bluetooth stereo music, FM radio (lowest)

A lower-priority function is always interrupted by a higher-priority function. For example, stereo music is interrupted by an intercom call, and intercom talk is interrupted by an incoming mobile phone call.

5.7 Reset

To clear previous pairing, press the [A Button] and [B Button] simultaneously until the LED flashes red.

5.8 Battery Life Prompt

Every time you turn on the unit, it will automatically report the current battery life. Double-click the [A Button] to repeat the battery life notification. It will report one of five levels: 100% / 80% / 50% / 30% / LOW.

5.9 Change LED Color

To change the LED color, press both the [Jog Dial] and [B Button]. It will cycle through Blue on, Red on, Red flashing, Purple on, Purple flashing, and Bluetooth indicator light. Changes are visible only in Bluetooth indicator mode for pairing or other settings. Note: LED color changing mode drains battery faster than usual, so use it only when needed.

6. Maintenance and Care

The LX-FT4 should be treated with care. The following suggestions will help maintain your warranty:

These suggestions apply equally to the headset main unit, speaker-microphone clamp unit, and power charger.
