Safety
Safety Guidelines and Procedures
Cybex International collaborates with equipment owners to ensure the safest and most effective setup of Cybex equipment. Cybex International recommends that all equipment owners strictly adhere to all safety instructions. Following these safety instructions provides the best protection against injuries and damage to your equipment.
The most important safety precaution is to ensure maximum stability for each piece of equipment. The equipment must be securely fastened to the floor. It is very important that the floor is level.
Cybex recommends that all fitness equipment be placed in a supervised area. The area should also be subject to access control. The owner is responsible for access control.
The scope of control is subject to the owner's confidentiality requirements. The purchaser/user of Cybex products is responsible for reading and following the operating manual and warning labels, as well as instructing all persons, including end-users and supervisory personnel, in the proper use of these products.
i Read the operating manual carefully before assembly, maintenance, or use of the equipment. If the equipment is used commercially or publicly, it is the owner's responsibility to instruct users in the proper use of the equipment and to make them aware of potential hazards.
Follow the safety instructions for users and enforce them to protect both users and equipment. Keep children away from selectorized strength training equipment. Adolescents or incapacitated users must be supervised.
Do not allow anyone, including trainers, to use the equipment in any way other than as depicted on the instruction plates on each machine.
The owner of the facility or fitness equipment is responsible for instructing users in the proper use of the equipment and discussing all labels.
WARNING: Serious or fatal injuries can occur if these safety instructions are not followed:
User Safety Precautions
i Read all warning labels attached to the machine. Warning labels are attached to each machine to alert the user to potential problems. Following the warning labels can help prevent injuries and equipment damage.
i Before using the machine, carefully read the warning labels and instruction plates. Receive instruction in the use of the equipment. Each machine has instructions for correct use.
Use the weight selection and weight stack pins as shown on the instruction labels. Do NOT alter the equipment in any way.
Never insert the weight pin while the weight is raised. Do NOT use the equipment if you find it in this configuration. Contact a fitness club staff member in this case. Locked weights can fall if the pin is pulled out. A staff member of the training facility should lower the weights to avoid potential hazards.
Ensure the weight pin is fully inserted (on selectorized strength training equipment with weight stacks). If the pin is not fully inserted, the user could accidentally drop the weights if the pin falls out.
Never use dumbbells or other aids to incrementally increase the weight resistance. Only use the aids provided by the equipment manufacturer. Altering the equipment's construction by adding extra weights, such as dumbbells or other objects, can lead to user injury and equipment damage. The warranty will be voided by this.
The surface on which you place, secure, and operate selectorized strength training equipment must be firm and level. If the floor is not level, the equipment will not be stable.
Do NOT wear loose clothing or dangling jewelry while using selectorized strength training equipment. Do not touch moving parts. Loose clothing or dangling jewelry can get caught in moving parts and cause serious injury or damage.
Consult a physician before starting any exercise program. If at any time during exercise you experience weakness, dizziness, or pain, stop exercising and consult your physician. Users should exercise responsibility and caution with their own health. A physician's visit before starting an exercise program will alert users to potential personal health risks.
Have a second person (spotter) monitor you when lifting free weights. A spotter is an additional safety measure.
Do NOT exceed the maximum weight indicated. Excessive weight may cause a machine to malfunction.
Do NOT use the equipment if a check reveals any possible damage or malfunction. Contact the training facility staff if the equipment appears damaged or not functioning.
Do NOT attempt to fix malfunctioning or jammed equipment. Notify a fitness club staff member in this case. The owner is responsible for repairing malfunctioning or jammed equipment.
Do NOT use equipment if the cover is missing or defective. A missing or defective cover must be replaced by a qualified technician. The covers ensure the proper functioning of the equipment.
Do NOT remove any labels from the equipment. Replace damaged labels. Labels provide users with specific information and warnings. Replace damaged labels so that users can be properly informed.
Operator Safety Precautions
i Read the operating manual carefully before assembling, maintaining, or using the equipment.
The performance of regular maintenance is the sole responsibility of the user/owner or operator.
Inspect the equipment for worn or damaged parts before use. Tighten or replace loose or worn parts before use. Pay close attention to belts, cables, grips, or pulleys and their connections. Always inspect the equipment for potential damage. Loose parts must be properly tightened. Replacing worn parts will keep the equipment in optimal condition for regular use.
Anchor the equipment to the floor using the mounting holes for optimal stability. Each machine must be placed, secured, and used on a firm and level surface.
Do not install equipment on an uneven surface!
CAUTION! If the following instructions are not followed, there is a risk of serious or fatal injury:
Due to varying local building codes, Cybex cannot anchor the equipment. The owner is responsible for anchoring the equipment. Consult a specialist for this purpose.
Use fasteners with a tensile strength of at least 226 kg – Cybex recommends 3/8" Grade 2 screws or stronger.
If the feet or frame of the equipment do not touch the floor, do NOT pull the equipment down with the anchor screws. Shim the feet or frame that are off the floor first.
Ensure all users are instructed in the proper use of the training equipment.
Ensure adequate space is available for safe access and operation of the equipment. The space requirements for different equipment vary depending on placement. While the assembly section provides information on equipment dimensions, the equipment owner must ensure that sufficient space is left between machines and around each machine for unimpeded operation.
Regularly maintain the equipment as described in the maintenance section of this manual. Inspect all areas prone to wear, including cables, pulleys, belts, and grips.
Replace worn or damaged components immediately. If worn or damaged components cannot be replaced immediately, take the equipment out of service until it is repaired.
Use only Cybex-supplied components for equipment maintenance/repair.
Record all maintenance performed in a repair log.
Post the training facility's safety instructions in a visible location.
Equipment Mounting
Mounting the Equipment
Only use the machine after it has been properly anchored. The machine has holes in the feet for easy anchoring to the floor. To optimize stability, all mounting holes must be used. The equipment must be placed on a firm and level surface to prevent wobbling, tipping, or falling during improper use or misuse.
The firm, level surface should not be inclined more than 3 mm over a distance of 25 cm and should comply with local building and architectural regulations.
The equipment must be anchored by a qualified specialist.
Because the substrates on which the machines are anchored or placed vary greatly, have the mounting method and means checked by a qualified and licensed professional.
The minimum pull-out force for each mounting position must be at least 100 kg (220 lbs).
Correct Use
Use equipment only as described in the manual or on the labels on each machine. Failure to follow the correct instructions may result in injury.
