OpenTherm Activation and Configuration
OpenTherm modulation control is used by modern heating systems. Instead of switching the boiler on and off at intervals, modulation control allows control of the heat output by the boiler to match the thermostat's demands. This results in higher system efficiency, energy savings, and greater room heating comfort.
Note: Please connect the receiver to power before inserting the battery into the thermostat.
After inserting batteries, the thermostat will power on.
Initial Setup Steps:
- Press SELECT.
- Use UP or DOWN buttons to select your language and press SELECT to confirm.

NOTE: Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select either TPI (step 2) or SPAN (step 6). Selecting one disables the other.
TPI (Proportional Integral Time)
TPI is a self-learning time algorithm. TPI control ensures system economy through more precise temperature maintenance and limits overload conditions. It minimizes energy consumption and provides significant savings. The RT520 thermostat offers three TPI control types: 1 for radiator heating (6CPH); 2 for underfloor heating (3CPH); 3 for electric heating (9CPH).
- Press SELECT.
- Use UP or DOWN buttons to select the TPI type you wish to use.
- Press SELECT to confirm.
SPAN
Span represents the difference between the measured temperature and the set (target) temperature.
- Press SELECT.
- Use UP or DOWN buttons to select the Span value.
- Press SELECT to confirm.
OPTIMUM STOP
Optimum Stop calculates how long it takes for the house to cool down, then switches off the boiler as early as possible, meaning the system does not run when it is not needed. If there is a sudden loss of heat during this period, the Optimum Stop function will be overridden to re-establish desired comfort conditions.
- Press SELECT.
- Use UP or DOWN buttons to select ON or OFF.
- Press SELECT to confirm.
- The thermostat will return to the main screen display.
Owner Settings
This function is protected by a PIN code that allows the owner to set a reminder for the tenant when annual service is due.
