OpenTherm - Startup and Configuration
Modulating control via the OpenTherm protocol is a method used by modern heating systems. Instead of switching the boiler on and off at set intervals, modulating control allows for adjusting the amount of heat delivered by the boiler to match the variable demand from the regulator. This increases system efficiency, leading to energy savings and enhanced comfort.
Before inserting batteries into the regulator, correctly connect the receiver and supply it with power.
Initial Setup Steps:
- After inserting batteries, the thermostat will start up.
- Press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ] buttons, select the language, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ] buttons, select the time format (24 hr or 12 hr), then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], set the hour, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], set the minutes, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], set the year, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], set the month, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], set the day, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], select the format for days of the week, then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], enable or disable DST (Daylight Saving Time), then press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], select the desired temperature display accuracy (0.1°C or 0.5°C), then press [SELECT].
The device software will automatically adjust to OpenTherm settings if the regulator is connected using the OpenTherm connector.
OpenTherm - Domestic Hot Water (CWU)
- Press [MENU].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], navigate to the domestic hot water submenu and press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], set the desired temperature, then press [SELECT].
The regulator will return to the main screen. Press any button.
The message bar indicates that domestic hot water is being heated.
Regulator RT520TX - Pairing with Receiver
For the RT520RF set, the regulator and receiver are factory paired.
During pairing, ensure the regulator and receiver are at least 1 meter apart.
If RT520TX and RXRT520 were purchased separately or need re-pairing:
- Ensure the device is disconnected from power.
- Set the receiver's switches to AUTO and ON.
- Connect the receiver to the power source and wait for the red LED to light up steadily or blink.
- Quickly (within 2 seconds) move the switch to OFF and then back to ON. A flashing red LED confirms entry into pairing mode.
The pairing process can take up to 10 minutes.
Upon successful pairing, the red LED on the receiver will light up.
Standard Startup and Configuration
Follow steps 1 to 17 from the "OpenTherm - Startup and Configuration" section.
Note: Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ] allows selection between TPI (step 2) or HYSTERESIS (step 6). Selecting one option excludes the other.
TPI (Time Proportional & Integral)
TPI is a self-learning, time-proportional control algorithm. TPI regulation ensures economical system operation by maintaining temperature more accurately during the control process. Besides precise and stable room temperature, its advantages include minimized energy consumption and significant savings.
RT520 offers 3 types of TPI control:
- 1. For radiators (6CPH)
- 2. For underfloor heating (3CPH)
- 3. For electric heating (9CPH)
Hysteresis
Hysteresis is the difference between the measured temperature and the activation/deactivation temperature of the connected device (e.g., boiler or pump).
Optimum Start/Stop
The Optimum Start function is an optional feature that, depending on the room temperature, initiates boiler operation at a time calculated to reach the set temperature according to the schedule. It saves energy by turning off the boiler for the minimum required time.
Optimum Stop calculates how long the room will cool down and then switches off the boiler at the earliest possible moment, meaning the system does not run when not necessary. If a sudden heat loss occurs during this period, Optimum Stop will be overridden to restore comfort.
Administrator Settings
Administrator settings are a PIN-protected function that allows the administrator to set a service reminder on the regulator, which will alert the tenant about an upcoming boiler inspection.
- Press [MENU].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], navigate to the ADMIN submenu and press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], enter the PIN code. Press [SELECT] to confirm each digit.
- Press [SELECT].
- Using [▲ GÓRA] or [▼ DÓŁ], select ON and press [SELECT] to enable the service reminder.
Programming - Automatic Mode
In this mode, the user can set the regulator's schedules (set temperatures for specific time intervals). Programmed schedules should utilize all available time slots.
Program Types:
- +2: Separate schedule for weekdays and weekends.
- All days: One schedule for the entire week.
- Individual: Separate schedule for each day of the week.
Follow on-screen prompts to set the desired day, time, and temperature for each program period.
Testing Regulator-Receiver Connectivity
Follow on-screen prompts to initiate the test mode.
The testing process can take up to 10 minutes.
After the test, the red and green LEDs on the receiver will blink.
Factory Reset
To reset the regulator, simultaneously hold [MENU], [▼ DÓŁ], and [BOOST] for 5 seconds.
The device will reset and restart. Administrator settings will not be reset.
