Connecting and Operating Portable Devices
Connecting Portable Devices
This guide explains how to connect and operate portable devices with your vehicle's multimedia system. It covers USB drives, iPods, iPhones, iPads, and devices with Bluetooth and HDMI/MHL connectivity.
Caution: When vehicles have rear climate control, disconnect the multimedia unit before folding the center armrest to prevent damage.
Multimedia System Locations
The front multimedia unit is located in the glove compartment of the center console. The rear multimedia unit is located either in the rear of the center console (for vehicles without rear climate control) or behind the folded center armrest (for vehicles with rear climate control).
Supported Devices and Formats
- USB Drives: Must be formatted with FAT or FAT32. It is recommended to use USB drives with a maximum capacity of 128 GB. Using drives with higher capacity may cause system malfunctions. Note that access to files on large-capacity drives may have a delay.
- Apple Devices: Supports iPod, iPad, iPod Touch, iPod Mini, iPhone, iPod Nano, iPod Classic Gen4, Gen5, and Gen6. Earlier models may not be fully supported. iPod Classic Gen1, Gen2, Gen3, and iPod Shuffle are not supported. For optimal performance, ensure your Apple device has the latest iOS version installed. Voice command functionality is available for newer Apple devices connected via Lightning.
- HDMI/MHL Devices: Multimedia devices supporting HDMI or MHL can also be connected.
Important Notes
- External hard drives are not recommended for use as they may reduce the lifespan of the devices.
- For optimal audio quality, use lossless compression formats for multimedia files, with a bitrate of at least 192 kbps recommended.
- Some MP3 players may require setting to USB Removable Device or Mass Storage Device mode for compatibility.
- When connecting devices via USB, they will charge. Devices with high power requirements (over 7.5W) may not show a charging indicator. HDMI devices do not charge.
- Voice commands are not available for devices connected via Bluetooth®.
- Playback options like Repeat and Shuffle are specific to the current device and must be reactivated after switching devices.
- The availability of ports may vary depending on the vehicle's specification.
Bluetooth® Connectivity
Pairing and connecting Bluetooth devices is detailed in the user manual. For a list of compatible Bluetooth devices, visit www.landrover.com. Compatibility is subject to device software version and battery status. The device manufacturer, not the vehicle manufacturer, provides the warranty.
Caution: Disconnect your iPod when leaving the vehicle to prevent battery drain.

File Copying/Importing
The ability to import/copy multimedia files depends on the vehicle's infotainment system specifications and market. Not all systems have an internal hard drive. If no hard drive is present, import/copy functionality is unavailable. Multimedia data can be imported from USB drives via the MEDIA PLAYER SETTINGS screen.
Operating the Multimedia Video Player
Use the touchscreen controls to manage playback of music and video files from connected devices. Some functions may not be available depending on device compatibility.
Attention: Drivers should not be distracted by the touchscreen while driving. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds (over 85 decibels) can affect hearing.
Supported Video Formats
The system supports MPEG2 (.avi, .mpg), WMV9 (.wmv), and H.264 (.mp4, .avi, .mkv, .mov) formats. Other formats may play but without guaranteed quality.
Notes on Video Playback:
- For optimal stereo sound, avoid video files with resolutions above 1080p or frame rates exceeding 30 fps.
- USB data transfer speed also affects video playback quality.
