Visual Guide: Towbar Assembly and Vehicle Fitment
The diagram illustrates the Tow-Trust TFD11SN towbar assembly and its attachment points to the Ford Mondeo's rear chassis. It also shows the necessary modifications to the vehicle's bumper and undertray.
Towbar Components and Assembly:
- The main structure consists of a central Crossmember (Item A) designed to span the vehicle's rear.
- Two Handed Side Arms (Item B) are attached to the ends of the Crossmember (Item A) and connect to the vehicle's chassis.
- Chassis Clamp Plates (Item C) are used in conjunction with Side Arms (Item B) and specific bolts/washers for chassis mounting.
- The ACS6/9206 Swan Neck (Item D), which is the detachable tow ball component, is mounted to the Crossmember (Item A).
- A VASP8 L/H Socket Plate (Item N) is also attached to the Crossmember (Item A) to house the electrical socket.
Mounting Procedure Highlights:
- Item A (Crossmember) is secured to the rear panel using Item G (M8 bolts) and Item L (8x25 flat washers).
- Items B (Side Arms) are fed through chassis openings and attached to the chassis members using Items F (M10 bolts), Items K (10x30 flat washers), and Items C (Chassis Clamp Plates).
- Further securing of the Side Arms (Item B) to the Crossmember (Item A) is achieved with Items H (M12 bolts, Nyloc nuts, S/P washers) and Items M (12x25 flat washers).
- The Swan Neck (Item D) and Socket Plate (Item N) are attached to the Crossmember (Item A) using Items J (M12 bolts, Nyloc nuts) and Items E (15mm spacer plates), along with Items M (12x25 flat washers).
Vehicle Modifications:
- Bumper Cut: A specific section of the rear bumper requires cutting. The diagram indicates a cutout approximately 100mm wide and 30mm deep to accommodate the towbar assembly.
- Undertray Cut: A similar cutout is required for the vehicle's undertray to ensure proper fitment and clearance.
The diagram also visually represents the placement of various fasteners (labeled F, G, H, J, K, L, M) at their respective mounting points on the towbar components (A, B, D, N) and the vehicle chassis.
Notes
- Recommended Torque Setting for M12 Grade 10.9: 139 Nm. (For other Torque Settings, see notes overleaf.)
- Nose load limits and vehicle manufacturers' trailer/caravan weight limits must be observed.
