To Service Personnel
Critical Components Information
Components marked with 'Z' have special characteristics and must be replaced with parts of identical specifications.
Leakage Current Measurement (For 120V Models Only)
After servicing, verify that all exposed conductive surfaces are properly insulated from supply circuits. Use a meter with 1500 ohms impedance shunted by 0.15μF. Leakage current must not exceed 0.5mA. Test with the AC plug in both polarities.
Chemical Content Notice
WARNING: The solder contains LEAD. Other components may contain chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Do not place components in your mouth. Avoid prolonged skin contact with solder. Do not inhale solder fumes. Wash hands after handling components.
Laser Safety
WARNING: This unit contains a laser beam component that may emit invisible or visible radiation causing eye damage. Maintain a distance of at least 30 cm from the laser pick-up unit during servicing. Do not stare at the laser beam. Do not attempt to readjust or disassemble the laser pick-up unless specified. Use of controls or procedures other than those specified may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
Laser Emitting Conditions: When the top cover is removed and the unit is ON, the laser may emit a beam for 5-10 seconds to detect a disc. Do not service during this period. Laser emission stops if no disc is detected or when a disc is loaded.
Laser Diode Properties
Type | Semiconductor laser GaAlAs |
Wave length | 650 nm (DVD), 784 nm (VCD/CD) |
Output Power | 7 mW (DVD/VCD/CD) |
Beam divergence | 60 degrees |
Multilingual Warnings: The manual includes warnings in Finnish (VARO!), Swedish (VARNING!), German (VORSICHT), French (ATTENTION), Italian (VARO!), Norwegian (ADVARSEL), and Danish (ADVARSEL) regarding laser radiation exposure when the unit is open.
Warning for Power Supply
The primary side of the power supply carries live mains voltage even when the unit is switched OFF. This area is not shielded, so service personnel must take precautions to avoid touching copper tracks or components.
Note: Do not touch, remove, or re-adjust screws on the DVD mechanism. Handle the DVD mechanism with care as it is sensitive to shocks.
Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge
Static electricity can damage the laser diode. Use caution when servicing or handling the laser diode.
Grounding for Electrostatic Damage Prevention
- Worktable Grounding: Place grounded conductive material (sheet or iron sheet) on the work area.
- Human Body Grounding: Use an anti-static wrist strap to discharge static electricity from your body.
Handling of the Optical Pickup
- To prevent damage during transport and before installation, the laser diode ends are short-circuited. Remove shorts after installation.
- Do not use a tester to check the laser diode, as the tester's power supply can damage it.
Handling Precautions for the Traverse Unit (Optical Pickup)
- Handle the traverse unit gently; it is a high-precision assembly.
- Be cautious with flexible cables to avoid breakage.
- Do not adjust the semi-fixed resistor for laser power adjustment.
Locale Management Information
This DVD player responds to Locale Management Information recorded on DVD discs. If the disc's locale number does not match the player's, the disc cannot be played.
The product incorporates Macrovision Corporation's copyright protection technology. Use of this technology is intended for limited home viewing unless otherwise authorized. Reverse engineering or disassembly is prohibited.
