To Service Personnel

Critical components are marked with a symbol [!] and must be replaced with identical parts. Leakage current must not exceed 0.5mA and should be tested with the AC plug in both polarities.

WARNING: CHEMICAL CONTENT NOTICE! The solder used contains LEAD. Avoid placing solder or components in your mouth. Avoid prolonged skin contact with solder and do not inhale fumes. Wash hands before handling food if contact occurs.

About Lead Free Solder: This unit uses lead-free solder. For repairs, it is recommended to use Sn+Ag+Cu, Sn+Cu, or Sn+Zn+Bi solder. Note that lead-free solder has a higher melting point.

Laser Safety

This product contains a laser beam component. WARNING: To protect eyes and skin from laser radiation:

Laser Emitting Conditions: The laser emits a beam for a few seconds when the unit is turned on with the top cover removed to detect a disc. Do not service during this period. The laser does not emit when no disc is detected or when a disc is loaded.

Laser Diode Properties:

CAUTION: Visible and invisible laser radiation when open. Avoid exposure to beam.

VARNING! Osynlig laserstrålning när denna del är öppnad och spärren är urkopplad. Betrakta ej strålen.

Warning for Power Supply

The primary side of the power supply carries live mains voltage even when the player is switched off. Service personnel must take precautions to avoid touching this area.

Note: Screws on the DVD mechanism must not be touched, removed, or re-adjusted. Handle the DVD mechanism with care.

Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge

The laser diode can be damaged by static electricity. Use caution when servicing or handling the DVD mechanism.

  1. Grounding for electro static damage prevention: Place a grounded conductive material on the worktable. Use an anti-static wrist strap to discharge static electricity from your body.
  2. Handling Precautions for DVD mechanism: Handle the mechanism gently. Avoid excessive force on flexible cables. Do not adjust the semi-fixed resistor for laser power adjustment.

Locale Management Information

This DVD player is designed to respond to Locale Management Information on DVD discs. If the disc's locale number does not match the player's, the disc cannot be played.

Maintenance Flow Chart

A flowchart guides troubleshooting steps for common issues.

Start -> Power on -> Check voltages at MAIN (5) Board pins -> Check voltages at +8V and +1V8 of power part -> Check voltage at +5A of power part -> Check voltages at Mono Board connector (Ref 1104) -> Check voltage at +3V3 of power part.

If voltages are normal, proceed to check display, clock, reset signals, FLASH and DRAM signals, image signals, and TV connection.

If voltages are abnormal, check cables, replace power supply unit or MAIN (5) Board if shorted, or check specific ICs and peripheral circuits.

Further checks involve tray operation, laser operation, disc reading, and various signal checks related to the DVD mechanism and specific ICs like MT1389 and MM1646.
