Televes dCSS NevoSwitch 5
Model: 719311
Description: 5 inputs - 2 outputs, for 1 satellite (Quattro) or 2 satellites (WideBand), Deutsche version
Product Overview
The Televes dCSS NevoSwitch 5 is a multiswitch equipped with 5 inputs, including one passive terrestrial and four satellite inputs. It provides 2 dCSS/dSCR user outputs that comply with SCR I (EN50494) and SCR II (EN50607) standards, as well as Legacy mode for compatibility with existing set-top boxes.
The four satellite inputs can be configured for Quattro mode, allowing reception of a single satellite's polarities, or WideBand mode for reception of two satellites. This multiswitch can function as a terminal in a star topology or as part of a cascade system. Its exclusive DCFLEX functionality offers flexible powering options, allowing it to be powered from the power supply, the receiver, or the cascade.
Key features include high shielding (A class) due to Zamak construction, multiple powering options (DCFLEX), and enhanced security for connected set-top boxes, allowing them to be fully isolated from the cascade's power supply. The TERR.DC switch allows isolation or connection of power in the terrestrial branch, useful for mast amplifiers or intelligent antennas. It supports a wide voltage range (12V-18V) and features an ECO mode for reduced power consumption. The TForce technology ensures automatic adjustment of the terrestrial output level.
dCSS Technology Explained
dCSS (Digital Channel Stacking Switch) technology is an evolution of SCR (Satellite Channel Router) technology. SCR allows the distribution of one or several satellite signals to multiple users over a single coaxial cable by assigning static or dynamic user bands and using DiSEqC commands for tuning.
The SCR standard (EN50494), defined in 2007, utilized up to 8 user bands in the satellite IF band (950-2150 MHz), with each band assigned to a user tuner. dCSS technology, based on the EN50607 standard, significantly improves this by allowing the distribution of more satellites and up to 32 user bands in a single cable, effectively utilizing the entire satellite band. dCSS is backward compatible with SCR.
dCSS can be used in individual and communal distribution scenarios, with dynamic or static operation modes. It can also be combined with optical fiber to extend the reach of satellite distribution. This technology facilitates the mass adoption of new reception devices like Home Gateways and PVRs.
WideBand Technology
WideBand, also known as FullBand, is a broadband transmission technology that utilizes a wide range of frequencies. In WideBand TV systems, a substantial portion or the entire frequency spectrum is available to users. It is suitable for fiber deployments or coaxial scenarios with compatible multiswitches.
In WideBand technology, an LNB captures a complete satellite signal and distributes it through two universal outputs (vertical and horizontal), each covering high and low bands within a frequency range of 290 to 2340 MHz.
Advantages of WideBand technology over Quattro technology include:
- Simpler, faster and cleaner installation: Requires half the number of coaxial cables compared to traditional Quattro deployments.
- Wider bandwidth: WideBand channels carry more information (290-2340MHz), enabling more services.
- Reusable deployment: Allows signal distribution using existing Quattro installation cabling, supporting up to 2 satellites by changing only LNBs and MSWs.
Application Examples and Powering Options
The document illustrates various cascade system installations, including domestic dCSS installations with 2 satellites and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) installations. These examples detail different powering configurations:
- Distributed Satellite Powering (2 satellites): WideBand LNBs, terrestrial trunk, cascade load, and dCSS multiswitches are powered by a single PSU. Subsequent multiswitches in the cascade are powered by connected dCSS STBs.
- Centralized Satellite Powering (2 satellites): A single 3A PSU powers all multiswitches, optical receiver, and trunk lines in the cascade. STBs are isolated and protected against overcurrent.
- Full dCSS Cascade System in FTTH (2 satellites): The initial PSU powers satellite trunk lines, LNBs, and the upper terrestrial trunk. Subsequent dCSS MSWs are powered by connected dCSS STBs, eliminating the need for additional PSUs. Cascade amplifiers are powered by their own PSUs.
The document also details various switch configurations for powering options:
- Powering from PSU: Explains scenarios based on the settings of TERR.DC, RECEIVER POWER, and SAT DC LINK switches, detailing whether satellite and terrestrial trunks are supplied with power.
- Powering from User STB receiver: Describes how powering is supplied from STB receivers based on switch settings, affecting satellite and terrestrial trunk power.
- Powering from the satellite trunk: Details powering scenarios when the satellite trunk itself supplies power, based on switch configurations.
