Grounding Instructions
This product must be grounded. Grounding provides a path of least resistance for electrical current to reduce the risk of electric shock in case of malfunction or breakdown. The product is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
DANGER: Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman if you are in doubt. Do not modify the plug; if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
The product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a grounding plug as illustrated in sketch (A). A temporary adapter (sketches B and C) may be used to connect this plug to a 2-pole receptacle if a properly grounded plug is not available. The adapter should only be used until a properly grounded outlet can be installed. The green-colored tab extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground, such as a properly grounded outlet box cover, and held in place by a metal screw.
Grounding Methods Illustration:
- Diagram A shows a grounded outlet with a grounding pin on the plug.
- Diagram B shows a two-pole receptacle.
- Diagram C shows a temporary adapter with a grounding tab that connects to a metal screw on a grounded outlet box.
The use of a temporary adapter is not permitted in Canada.
