Important Information Regarding Image Burn-in/Ghosting

Always activate the moving screen saver when the display is unattended. If the display will be showing static content, always enable a screen refresh application. Prolonged display of static or fixed images may cause "burn-in", also known as "ghosting" or "afterimage" on the screen. "Burn-in", "ghosting", or "afterimage" is a common phenomenon in LCD panel technology. In most cases, "burn-in", "ghosting", or "afterimage" will gradually disappear after the display is turned off for a period of time.

Warning: If the screen saver is not activated or the screen refresh application is not enabled, severe "burn-in", "ghosting", or "afterimage" may occur, which may not disappear or be repairable. Damage of this nature is not covered by the warranty.

3. Image Optimization

3.1 SmartImage

What is it?

SmartImage provides preset modes optimized for different types of content, dynamically adjusting brightness, contrast, color, and sharpness in real-time. Whether you are using text applications, viewing images, or watching videos, Philips SmartImage can provide a superior display experience.

Why do you need it?

You want your display to provide an excellent viewing experience for all types of content you enjoy. SmartImage software dynamically adjusts brightness, contrast, color, and sharpness to enhance your viewing experience.

How does it work?

SmartImage is a unique Philips technology that analyzes the content displayed on your screen. Based on the preset you choose, SmartImage dynamically enhances the image's contrast, color saturation, and sharpness to improve the display's performance – all with a single button press, in real-time.

How to enable SmartImage?

  1. Switch to the left to launch the SmartImage display.
  2. Press the button up or down to switch between SmartImage modes.
  3. The SmartImage display will remain on screen for 5 seconds, or you can press the button to the right to confirm.

3.2 SmartContrast

What is it?

A unique technology that dynamically analyzes the content displayed and automatically optimizes the display's contrast for optimal clarity and viewing comfort. It enhances backlight brightness for clear, sharp, and bright images, and reduces backlight brightness for dark backgrounds.

Why do you need it?

You want to achieve the best clarity and viewing comfort when displaying various types of content. SmartContrast dynamically controls contrast and adjusts backlight to provide clear, sharp, bright game and video images, or clear and readable text. By reducing the display's power consumption, it saves energy costs and extends the display's lifespan.

How does it work?

When SmartContrast is enabled, it analyzes the displayed content in real-time to adjust color and control backlight brightness. When watching videos or playing games, this function dynamically enhances contrast for a great entertainment experience.

4. Adaptive Sync

Computer game experiences have always been unsatisfactory due to the lack of synchronization between the GPU and the display's refresh rate. Sometimes, the display updates once, while the GPU can provide many new frames, and the display shows parts of each frame as a single image. This is called "tearing." Gamers can use a feature called "v-sync" to fix tearing issues, but the image may become unstable because the GPU waits for the display to request an update before providing new frames.

Additionally, using v-sync can reduce mouse input response time and overall frame rate. AMD Adaptive Sync™ technology eliminates all these issues. This technology allows the GPU to update the display as soon as new frames are ready, providing gamers with an incredibly smooth, fast, and tear-free gaming experience.

8. Customer Service and Warranty

8.1 Philips Flat Panel Display Pixel Defect Policy

Philips is committed to providing the highest quality products. The company utilizes the most advanced manufacturing processes in the industry and implements strict quality control. However, pixel or sub-pixel defects in TFT display panels are sometimes unavoidable. No manufacturer can guarantee that all screens will be free of pixel defects. Philips guarantees that any display with an unacceptable number of defects will be repaired or replaced under warranty. The following describes different types of pixel defects and the acceptable defect levels for each type. To qualify for warranty repair or replacement, the number of pixel defects on the TFT display panel must exceed these acceptable levels. For example, less than 0.0004% of sub-pixels may be defective. Furthermore, given that some types of pixel defects or combinations are more noticeable than others, Philips has set higher quality standards for these types. This policy is effective worldwide.

Bright Pixel Defects

A bright pixel is a pixel or sub-pixel that is always on. This means that a bright pixel is a sub-pixel that remains illuminated when the display shows a dark image. Bright pixel defects are classified as follows:

Note:

The brightness of red or blue bright spots is more than 50% higher than surrounding dots; the brightness of green bright spots is more than 30% higher than surrounding dots.

Dark Pixel Defects

A dark pixel is a pixel or sub-pixel that is always off. This means that a black pixel is a sub-pixel that remains dark when the display shows a bright image. Dark pixel defects are classified as follows:

Compact Pixel Defects

Given that adjacent pixel and sub-pixel defects are more noticeable, Philips has also set specifications for compact pixel defects.

Pixel Defect Tolerance

To qualify for warranty repair or replacement due to pixel defects, the TFT display panel of the Philips flat panel display must have more pixel and sub-pixel defects than the tolerance levels listed below.

Defect TypeAcceptable Level
Bright Pixel Defects
1 bright sub-pixel2
2 adjacent bright sub-pixels1
