Zebra ZD421 Ribbon Cartridge Desktop Printer
Quick Start Guide
1. Setup
IMPORTANT: Go to zebra.com/zd421c-info and install the driver for your printer. The driver MUST be installed before connecting the printer to the computer. If your Microsoft Windows-based computer does not have the driver installed, download it from zebra.com/zd421c-info and install it before continuing.
2. Remove Packing
After unpacking, make sure you have all items shown below: Printer, Quick Start Guide, USB Cable, Power Supply, Power Cord. Labels and the ribbon cartridge are not included.
Open the printer and remove the packing material.
3. Load Media
Unroll and discard the outer layer of the media roll. Spread the roll holders open and place the roll into the printer. Verify the roll spins easily on the holder. Pull the end of the roll past the front edge of the printer. Press the media under the guides.
4. Adjust Sensor
Align the sensor to the center of the roll for regular labels. Align the sensor to the edge of the roll for marked labels.
5. Load Ribbon
Insert the ribbon cartridge and press down until it clicks into place.
6. Close Printer
Push down on the front edge of the printer until it locks.
7. Connect Power
- Plug the power supply into the printer.
- Plug the power cable into the power supply.
- Plug the power cord into an appropriate receptacle.
- Verify that the power supply lights green.
8. Connect USB
- Connect a USB cable to the printer.
- Connect the other end to your computer.
9. Power On
Press POWER. When the printer is ready, the printer status light turns green.
10. Smart Calibration
Press and hold FEED + CANCEL for two seconds to print a configuration report.
11. Print Configuration
Press and hold FEED + CANCEL for two seconds to print a configuration report.
12. Media Out
When the media runs out, the printer status and media status lights turn red.
Open the printer and discard the empty roll.
13. Ribbon Out
When the ribbon runs out, the printer status and ribbon status lights will turn red.
Open the printer and discard the empty cartridge.
14. Cleaning
Clean the printhead with a cleaning pen. Clean from the middle to the outside. Do not use a cleaning pen on the platen.
