Product Configuration

Download App

  1. Android: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from Google Play.
  2. iPhone: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from the App Store.

The app icon features the "Brookstone SMART" logo.

Registration and Login

  1. Run the "Brookstone Smart" app from your smartphone. The app's initial screen displays a "Register" button and an option to "Log in with existing account."
  2. Register and login. After successful login, the app's home screen shows weather information (e.g., temperature, humidity, air pressure) and categories like "All devices," "Living Room," "Bedroom," with a "+" symbol and "Add Device" button to add new devices.

Add Device

  1. Plug the Smart Plug into an electrical socket and hold down the on/off button until the indicator light blinks rapidly.
  2. Ensure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network and that it is a 2.4GHz network.
  3. Press the "+" symbol in the top right corner of the app and select "Smart Plug" from the list of devices to add. The device selection screen shows various smart home device categories like "Smart Plug," "Smart Outlet," "Light Switch," etc.
  4. Confirm the indicator light is blinking rapidly and press the "Confirm indicator rapidly blinks" button in the app. The app screen prompts to "Power on the device and confirm that indicator light rapidly blinks."
  5. Ensure your phone is connected to the Wi-Fi network that the device will be connected to. Enter your password for the Wi-Fi network.
  6. The connecting process will begin. Do not turn off the Smart Plug or phone while connecting. Wait for the connection process to complete. The app displays a "Connecting" screen with a progress percentage and a message "Make sure your router, mobile, and device are as close as possible."
  7. Once the device has been successfully added, name the device what you would like it to be called in the app. The Smart Plug is then ready for use. The app displays a "Device added successfully" screen, allowing you to name the device and assign it to a room (e.g., Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen).

Push Notifications

  1. You can turn on/off notifications for all devices connected to the app by clicking on the "Me" button at the bottom right of the screen. The "Me" screen shows options like "Click here to set nickname," "Home Management," "Message Center," "Help Center," and "Settings."
  2. Then click on the "Settings" button. From there you can turn on/off all notifications. The "Settings" screen includes toggles for "Sound" and "Push Notification," along with options for "About," "Clear Cache," and "Log out."

Remove a Device

  1. From the home screen, click on the device you would like to remove. The Smart Plug device screen shows its status and options like "Schedule," "Timer," "Random," and "Circulate."
  2. Then click on the edit symbol (pencil icon) on the top right of the screen.
  3. From there you would then click the "Remove Device" button at the bottom of the screen. The "More" screen for the device includes options like "Check Device Network," "Supported Third-party Control" (with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant icons), "Share Device," "Create Group," "Device Information," "Feedback," "Add to Home Screen," "Check for Firmware Update," "Remove Device," and "Restore Factory Setting."

How to control the Smart Plug with Amazon Alexa

Please make sure that your Alexa app is connected to your Amazon Echo and both work together successfully on your Wi-Fi home network.

Step A: Log into your Alexa app, tap top left corner, and tap "Skills".

The Alexa app's main screen shows weather, date, and various sections like "Afternoon," "Evening," "Night," and a "Things to Try" section. Tapping the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left reveals a sidebar menu with options including "Add Device," "Lists," "Reminders & Alarms," "Contacts," "Routines," "Things to Try," "Skills & Games," "Activity," "Help & Feedback," and "Settings."

Step B: Type "Brookstone Smart", find "Brookstone Smart" app in the search results and tap "enable" button.

The search results screen in the Alexa app will display "Brookstone Smart" under "Smart Home" with a rating. Tapping on it leads to a page with an "ENABLE TO USE" button.

Step C: Enter your account info for the "Brookstone Smart" app, tap "Link Now”, then tap "Authorize” on the next page to link Brookstone Smart account to Alexa.

The account linking page for Brookstone Smart requires entering phone number/email address and password, then tapping "Link Now." After this, a confirmation page from Alexa by Amazon will appear, stating it "will be able to: Receive your public profile, Control your devices over internet," with an "Authorize" button.

Step D: Once your Brookstone Smart account is successfully linked to Alexa, the next page will pop up. Tap "Done" on the top left corner, then tap "Discover Devices" on the next page.

The "Discover Devices" screen indicates "Smart Home devices must be discovered before they can be used with Alexa," with "CANCEL" and "DISCOVER DEV" buttons. After discovery, a "1 device discovered" message appears, prompting to "CHOOSE DEVICE." Finally, a "What device do you want to set up?" screen lists "smart plug" under "CONNECTED DEVICES" with a "SET UP DEVICE" button.

Step E: Wait a few seconds for Alexa to detect the Smart Plug from the Brookstone Smart app and you will find the device named “Smart Plug" has been paired to Alexa app from "Brookstone Smart" app.

When you click on a device you can then name them what you choose. The Alexa app's device control screen for the Smart Plug shows a large power button icon and "Plug is on" or "Plug is off" status.

Step F: Now you are able to control the Smart Plug via Amazon Alexa. Any device plugged into the plug will turn on and off with Alexa.

How to control the Smart Plug with Google Assistant

The product is compatible with Hey Google voice assistant.

  1. Pair Smart Plug with Brookstone Smart App and name it with an easily recognizable name.
  2. Download the Google Home App and register and log in with your Google account info.

Step A: Once you are logged into your Google Home App, you should see buttons at the top to connect your Brookstone Smart account to the Google Home App.

Step B: Tap the Brookstone Smart button to link your account with the Google Assistant.

The Google Home app's home screen displays a "Connect Brookstone Smart" button at the top, along with options for "Play," "Broadcast," "Routines," "Add," and "Settings."

Step C: Enter your account info for the "Brookstone Smart" app, tap “Link now", then tap "Authorize” on the next page to link your Brookstone Smart account to the Google Assistant.

The account linking page for Brookstone Smart requires entering phone number/email address and password, then tapping "Link Now." After this, a confirmation page from Google Assistant will appear, stating it "will be able to: Receive your public profile, Control your devices over internet," with an "Authorize" button.

Step D: You will find that the Google Assistant has found the device named "Smart Plug" on this page.

Scroll down on the home page to see the devices linked to you. You can now control the device through the Google Home App. The Google Home app's "Linked to you" section shows "Smart Plug" with an on/off toggle. The Smart Plug control screen in the Google Home app features a large power button icon and "On" or "Off" status, along with an "Add to a room" option.

Step E: Now you are able to control the Smart Plug via the Google Assistant. Any device plugged into the Smart Plug will turn on and off with Google.
