Care and Maintenance
Your Kingston faucet is finished to the most strict standards. However, due to the high content of minerals in water, your finish may appear dull and tarnished over time. Follow these guidelines to maintain the luster on your faucet for many years to come.
DOs:
- Use a silicon-based caulking when installing.
- Clean your faucet with only a mild soap and water solution.
- Dry your faucet after using it.
- Apply a coat of Carnauba Wax periodically.
DON'Ts:
- Use plumbers putty when installing the faucet.
- Use any abrasive cleaning agents.
If your faucet is already looking somewhat dull and tarnished, try cleaning it with a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Soak some rags in the solution and wrap them around stubborn areas, leave overnight, and rinse completely in the morning. Apply Carnauba wax once you have removed the mineral deposits.
Installation Instructions
Before Beginning Installation:
- Flush plumbing lines to clear any debris.
- Shut off both supply lines after flushing.
Tools Required:
- Basin Wrench
- Adjustable Wrench
- Teflon Tape
- Silicone Sealant
- Screwdriver
Installation Steps:
-
Step 1: Spout Mounting Hardware Removal
Remove the tee connector and spout mounting hardware from the spout.
Diagram Description: Shows the spout with its mounting hardware and tee connector detached.
-
Step 2: Sink Preparation
Sparingly apply a small bead of silicon caulking around the center hole on top of the sink. Do not use Plumber's Putty, as it may damage the finish and void the warranty.
Diagram Description: Illustrates applying a bead of sealant around the sink's faucet hole.
-
Step 3: Spout and Pop-Up Rod Installation
From the top of the sink, insert the spout base ring (if applicable) and spout through the center hole. Slip the spout mounting hardware back onto the spout and hand-tighten the lock nut. Insert the pop-up rod through the hole in the back or top of the spout. Rotate the metal washer to ensure smooth movement of the pop-up rod. Tighten the brass lock nut. Test the pop-up rod for ease of operation.
Diagram Description: Shows the spout being inserted into the sink, followed by mounting hardware and the pop-up rod.
-
Step 4: Tee Connector Attachment
Place the tee connector washer and thread the tee connector onto the spout shank. Warning: Ensure the tee connector is tightly secured to the spout shank. Do not turn the tee backward, as this can loosen it and cause leakage.
Diagram Description: Depicts attaching the tee connector to the spout shank with a washer.
-
Step 5: Stem Assembly Installation
Hot and Cold stem assemblies are identifiable by a Red (Hot) or Blue (Cold) band. Insert the stem assembly through the side holes from below, ensuring the bottom nut and metal washer are threaded onto the stem assembly.
Diagram Description: Illustrates inserting the stem assemblies from underneath the sink, with washers and nuts.
-
Step 6: Trim Ring and Escutcheon
While holding from under the sink, install the trim ring and thread the escutcheon onto the stem assembly. Adjust to a suitable height to allow sufficient space for the handle to operate smoothly. Tighten the bottom nut. Align the direction of the lever handles before tightening the stem.
Diagram Description: Shows installing the trim ring and escutcheon, and adjusting for handle clearance.
-
Step 7: Flexible Hose Connection
Attach flexible hoses to the outlet port of the hot and cold valve assembly. You may need to loop the hoses as shown in the graphic. Be careful not to overtighten.
Diagram Description: Illustrates connecting flexible hoses to the valve outlets.
-
Step 8: Supply Line Installation
Apply Teflon tape on all male threading and install inlet supply lines (not included) to the bottom inlet port of the hot and cold valve assembly.
Diagram Description: Shows applying Teflon tape and connecting supply lines to the valve assembly.
-
Step 9: Pop-Up Assembly Installation
Install the pop-up assembly as per instructions. Install the flange body up through the drain opening. Hold the drain flange body in position with the pivot rod opening facing the back of the sink and hand-tighten the mounting nut.
Diagram Description: Depicts inserting the drain flange into the sink drain opening and hand-tightening the mounting nut.
-
Step 10: Pivot Rod Installation
Place the pivot rod into the pivot rod opening. Slide the pivot nut over the pivot rod and thread it onto the drain body. Tighten firmly.
Diagram Description: Shows placing the pivot rod and securing it with the pivot nut.
-
Step 11: Lift Rod Connection
Guide the pivot rod through one of the holes on the lift rod strap and secure it with the spring clip. Adjust the height of the lift rod by resetting the clevis screw. With the lift rod in position on the faucet, insert the lift rod through the lift rod strap and secure it with the clevis screw.
Diagram Description: Illustrates connecting the pivot rod to the lift rod strap and adjusting the lift rod.
-
Step 12: Final Check and Flush
Remove the aerator. Turn on the faucet and let water run for at least one minute to clear any debris left in the lines. Reinstall the aerator.
Diagram Description: Shows water running from the faucet and the aerator being reinstalled.
