Telescope Assembly

Before starting assembly, choose an installation location that offers a clear view of the sky, has a stable, flat surface, and sufficient space around you for comfort. Once the ideal spot is found, you can begin assembly.

Tripod Setup

Open the tripod leg locking clips (14). Then, pull the lower parts of the legs (13) downwards until they stop. Finally, close the locking clips (See Fig. 1). You can adjust the tripod height later by shortening the legs (open clips, adjust legs, close clips).

Attaching the Telescope Tube

Connect the telescope tube (6) to the tripod head (See Fig. 2). Use the telescope tube fixing screw (10) to firmly attach the two parts.

Inserting an Eyepiece

Remove the cap from the eyepiece holder (2). Insert the zenith mirror (3) into the eyepiece holder and secure it with the small screw on the connector. Then, insert an eyepiece (5) into the opening of the zenith mirror (3). A screw is also used here to attach the eyepiece to the zenith mirror.

Note: Start by inserting the eyepiece with the longest focal length (20 mm) into the zenith mirror. Although this provides the lowest magnification, observation will be easier.

Barlow Lens (Optional)

The Barlow lens (4) can be mounted between the zenith mirror and the eyepiece to double the magnification.

Using Your Telescope

To move the instrument up, down, and sideways, grasp the telescope and regularly move the tube until your target appears in the eyepiece. Remember that due to the Earth's rotation, objects will quickly drift out of the eyepiece's field of view. Once the desired object is found and focused, you will need to track its path across the night sky. For a more detailed examination, you can insert the 10 mm eyepiece. Magnification will increase from 35x to 70x (with Barlow lens).

Which Eyepiece is Suitable?

It is important to always start observation with an eyepiece (5) that has the longest focal length. You can then gradually switch to eyepieces with shorter focal lengths. The focal length is indicated in millimeters and is inscribed on each eyepiece. Generally, the following rule applies: the longer the focal length of an eyepiece, the lower the magnification. There is a simple formula to calculate magnification:

Magnification Calculation Formula

Telescope Focal Length Eyepiece Focal Length Magnification Barlow Lens (3x)
350mm ÷ 20 mm = 17.5X x2 = 35X
350 mm ÷ 10 mm = 35X x2 = 70X

Focusing Knob

Look through the telescope eyepiece (5) and aim at a distant, clearly visible object (e.g., a church steeple). Focus on the object using the focusing knob (1).

Technical Data

  • Design: Achromatic
  • Focal Length: 350 mm
  • Objective Diameter: 50 mm

Cleaning Remarks

  • Clean eyepieces and lenses only with a soft, lint-free cloth (e.g., microfiber). Apply light pressure to avoid scratches.
  • For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with a lens cleaning solution and gently wipe the lenses.
  • Protect the device from dust and humidity. After use, especially in high humidity, allow the device to acclimatize briefly so that residual moisture can dissipate before storage.

Smartphone Support (for Eyepieces)

Open the flexible support and insert your smartphone, ensuring it is securely fixed. The camera should be positioned exactly above the eyepiece. Open the locking clip on the back of the support and align the eyepiece precisely with your smartphone's camera. Then, re-tighten the locking clip and attach the smartphone adapter to the telescope eyepiece. Now, launch your camera app. If the image is not yet centered on the screen, slightly loosen the locking clip and readjust. You may need to use the zoom function to fill the screen. Some edge vignetting may occur. Remove the smartphone from the support after use!

WARNING

Ensure the smartphone cannot slip out of the support. Bresser GmbH declines all liability for damage caused by a dropped smartphone.

Telescope Terminology (ABC)

What do the following terms mean?

Focal Length:

Any system that magnifies an object using optics (a lens) has a certain focal length. The focal length is the length of the path traveled by light from the lens surface to its focal point. The focal point is also called the focus. The image is sharp at the focus. In the case of a telescope, the focal lengths of the tube and the eyepieces combine.

Lens:

A lens deflects the light passing through it so that after a certain path (focal length), it forms a sharp image at the focal point.

Zenith Mirror (Diagonal) (3):

A mirror that deflects the light beam by 90 degrees. With a horizontal tube, this accessory deflects the light upwards, allowing comfortable observation by looking down into the eyepiece. The image in a diagonal mirror appears upright but is mirror-reversed around its vertical axis.

Barlow Lens (4):

The Barlow lens increases the focal length of a telescope.

Eyepiece (5):

An eyepiece is a system intended for the eye and composed of one or more lenses. In an eyepiece, the sharp image formed at the focal point of a lens is captured and further magnified. There is a simple formula to calculate magnification: Telescope tube focal length / Eyepiece focal length = Magnification. In a telescope, magnification depends on both the focal length of the tube and that of the eyepiece. According to this formula, if you use a 10 mm eyepiece and a tube with a 350 mm focal length, you will get a magnification of: 350 mm / 10 mm = 35 times.

Magnification:

Magnification corresponds to the difference between naked-eye observation and observation through a magnifying instrument like a telescope. If a telescope setup has a magnification of 30x, then an object viewed through the telescope will appear 30 times larger than with the naked eye. See also "Eyepiece".

Disposal

Dispose of packaging materials correctly according to their nature, e.g., paper or cardboard. Contact your local waste disposal service or environmental authority for information on proper disposal.

Do not dispose of electronic devices with household waste!

In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU of the European Parliament on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its adaptation into German law, used electronic equipment must be collected separately and recycled in an environmentally sound manner. Used batteries must be deposited by the consumer at designated collection points. You can obtain more information on the disposal of devices or batteries produced after January 6, 2006, from your local waste disposal service or your environmental authority.

In accordance with regulations concerning batteries and accumulators, their disposal with household waste is explicitly prohibited. Please ensure you dispose of your used batteries in accordance with the law — at a local collection point or with a retailer. Disposal with domestic waste violates the Battery Directive.

Batteries containing toxic substances are marked with a sign and a chemical symbol:

  • Cd¹ (battery contains cadmium)
  • Hg² (battery contains mercury)
  • Pb³ (battery contains lead)
