Getting Started
- Connect your Razer device to the USB port of your computer.
- Change your mouse's DPI to match your playstyle by pressing the DPI cycle button or using the Razer Synapse app to fine-tune sensitivity and customize lighting.
Note: Install Razer Synapse when prompted or download the installer from razer.com/synapse.
Configuring Your Razer DeathAdder Essential
An internet connection is required for installation, updates, and cloud-based features. Registering for a Razer ID account is recommended but optional.
Synapse Tab
The Synapse tab is the default tab upon launching Razer Synapse, allowing navigation of the Dashboard subtab.
Dashboard
The Dashboard subtab provides an overview of Razer Synapse, offering access to all Razer devices, modules, and online services.
Available Modules:
- Alexa: Integrates Amazon Alexa Voice Service for Chroma-enabled devices. Requires an active microphone and Amazon Alexa account.
- Chroma Connect: Control center for Chroma-enabled apps and third-party hardware. Prioritize games and sync RGB devices with Razer Chroma.
- Chroma Studio: Unlock advanced Razer Chroma™ capabilities for creating synchronized lighting effects across devices. Manage Chroma-enabled games and programs via the Chroma Apps tab.
- Hue: Immerse yourself with the Philips Hue Module. Sync Razer Chroma-enabled devices with your Hue Bridge for an enhanced gaming experience.
- Chroma Visualizer: Syncs Chroma-enabled devices and smart lights with media for an immersive listening experience.
- Macro: Create and execute powerful macros with precise timing for game-winning combinations.
Global Shortcuts
Bind operations or Razer Synapse functions to custom key-combinations that apply across all device profiles. Only Razer Synapse-enabled device inputs are recognized. Learn more about Profiles.
Mouse Tab
The Mouse tab is the main interface for configuring your Razer DeathAdder Essential. Here you can adjust settings like button assignment, DPI sensitivity, and lighting. Changes are automatically saved to your system and cloud storage.
Customize Subtab
Modify your mouse's button assignments.
Button Assignment Options:
- Default: Returns the mouse button to its original setting.
- Keyboard Function: Assigns a keyboard function. Includes Turbo mode for repeated key presses.
- Mouse Function: Substitutes the current button assignment with another mouse function. Options include: Left Click, Right Click, Scroll Click, Double Click, Mouse Button 4 (Backward), Mouse Button 5 (Forward), Scroll Up, Scroll Down, Scroll Left, Scroll Right. Turbo mode is available for some mouse functions.
- Sensitivity: Manipulate DPI settings with a button press. Options include: Sensitivity Clutch (sets a predefined DPI while held), Sensitivity Stage Up/Down, On-The-Fly Sensitivity (adjust DPI with scroll wheel), Cycle Up/Down Sensitivity Stages. Learn more about Sensitivity Stages.
- Macro: Execute prerecorded sequences of keystrokes and button presses. Requires the Macro module.
- Inter-device: Change functionality of other Razer Synapse-enabled devices.
- Switch Profile: Quickly change profiles and load new button assignments.
- Switch Lighting: Easily switch between advanced lighting effects. Requires Chroma Studio module.
- Razer Hypershift: Activate Hypershift mode while the button is held down.
- Launch Program: Open an app or website with the assigned button.
- Multimedia: Assign multimedia controls such as volume adjustment, mute, play/pause, next/previous track.
- Windows Shortcuts: Assign a button to a Windows Operating System shortcut command. For more information, visit support.microsoft.com/kb/126449.
- Text Function: Type prewritten text with a button press, supporting Unicode and special characters.
- Disable: Renders the assigned button unusable.
Performance Subtab
Modify sensitivity, acceleration, and polling rate.
- Sensitivity: The distance the cursor travels relative to mouse movement (DPI).
- Polling Rate: Frequency of data updates (125Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz).
- Mouse Properties: Access Windows Mouse Properties for operating system settings.
Lighting Subtab
Modify your Razer device's lighting settings.
- Brightness: Adjust luminance using the slider.
- Switch Off Lighting: Power-saving feature to disable lighting when the display is off or the device is idle.
- Effects: Apply lighting effects like Breathing (fades in and out) and Static (LEDs remain lit).
Profiles Tab
Manage profiles and link them to games and applications.
Devices
View game-device or game-Chroma Effect links using the Devices subtab.
Import or create new profiles using the import button () or add button (+). Rename, duplicate, export, or delete profiles using the Miscellaneous button (⚫⚫⚫). Profiles can be set to automatically activate with specific applications via the Linked Games option.
Linked Games
Add and manage games, view linked devices, and sort games alphabetically, by last played, or most played. Added games remain listed even if not linked to a Razer device.
To link games, click a game, select a device and profile to launch automatically during gameplay. Link Razer devices or Chroma Effects by clicking the Miscellaneous button (...) of the corresponding item.
Settings Window
Access settings by clicking the () button on Razer Synapse to configure startup behavior, display language, view master guides, or perform factory resets.
General Tab
Adjust software display language, start-up behavior, theme, and notifications. Manually sync profiles to the cloud (2) or view master guides.
Reset Tab
Perform a factory reset on connected Razer devices or reset Razer Synapse tutorials. Resetting a device erases its on-board memory profiles.
About Tab
View brief software information, copyright statement, and links for terms of use. Check for software updates or access Razer's social communities.
Safety and Maintenance
Safety Guidelines
- For maximum safety, follow these guidelines.
- If troubleshooting fails, unplug the device and contact Razer support at support.razer.com.
- Do not disassemble the device, as this voids the warranty. Do not operate under abnormal current loads.
- Keep the device away from liquids, humidity, and moisture. Operate within 0°C (32°F) to 40°C (104°F). Unplug or switch off the device if temperatures exceed this range.
Comfort
To avoid injury and ensure optimum comfort during prolonged use:
- Position your keyboard and monitor directly in front of you, with the mouse beside them. Keep elbows close to your sides and keyboard within easy reach.
- Adjust chair and table height so keyboard and mouse are at or below elbow-height.
- Ensure feet are well supported, posture is straight, and shoulders are relaxed.
- During gameplay, keep your wrist relaxed and straight. Avoid prolonged bending, extending, or twisting of hands.
- Do not rest wrists on hard surfaces for extended periods; use a wrist rest.
- Customize keyboard keys to minimize repetitive or awkward motions.
- Avoid sitting in the same position all day. Take breaks to stretch arms, shoulders, neck, and legs.
If you experience discomfort (pain, numbness, tingling) in your hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, or back, consult a medical professional.
Maintenance and Use
- For minimum maintenance, keep the Razer DeathAdder Essential in optimum condition.
- Once a month, unplug the device and clean it with a soft cloth or cotton swab to prevent dirt buildup. Avoid soap or harsh cleaning agents.
- For optimal movement and control, Razer recommends using a premium mouse mat from Razer. Certain surfaces can cause undue wear on the mouse feet.
- The Razer DeathAdder Essential's sensor is optimized for Razer mouse mats, ensuring accurate reading and tracking.
