DVR Universal Remote
This document provides a detailed explanation of the functions of each button on the DVR Universal Remote control. It is designed to help users navigate and operate their cable television and home entertainment systems effectively.
System and Power Controls
SYSTEM ON/OFF: Powers on or off up to five connected components with a single button press.
POWER: Turns your TV, Audio (AUD), DVD player, Auxiliary (AUX), and Cable Box (CBL) on and off.
Device Selection
AUX, DVD, AUD, TV, CBL: These are device buttons. Use them to select the specific component (Auxiliary, DVD Player, Audio System, Television, or Cable Box) you wish to control. Pressing one of these buttons signals the remote to send commands appropriate for that device.
Information and Navigation
INFO: Displays detailed information about the program currently playing or any program highlighted within the program guide.
EXIT: Closes the current screen or menu and returns to the previous view.
PAGE +/-: Allows navigation through pages of information, such as scrolling up or down within the program guide or other on-screen displays.
CURSOR NAVIGATION PAD: This directional pad (up, down, left, right) is used to navigate menus and highlight specific items or options presented on the screen.
A, B, C, D: These colored buttons provide direct selection for options that appear on-screen, often corresponding to prompts within menus or the program guide.
CHANNEL +/-: Selects the next higher or lower channel. This is used for sequential channel surfing.
LAST: Returns you to the channel you were watching immediately before the current one.
LIVE: Immediately displays live television programming, exiting any recorded playback or menu.
Menu and Program Guide Navigation
MENU: Opens the main Applications Menu, providing access to various features and settings.
GUIDE: Displays the program guide, listing available channels and their scheduled programming.
OK/SELECT: Confirms a selection or activates a highlighted option on the screen. It is used to select items from menus or the program guide.
SETTINGS: Accesses the main settings menu for the remote or connected devices.
MUTE: Silences the audio output from the selected device. Pressing it again restores the sound to its previous level.
VOLUME +/-: Adjusts the audio volume, either increasing or decreasing the sound level.
FAV: Displays a list of your favorite channels for quick access.
DAY +/-: Allows you to skip forward or backward by one full day within the program guide, useful for planning viewing.
REPLAY: Rewinds and plays back the last few seconds of the current program, useful for catching missed dialogue or action.
LIST: Shows a list of recorded programs. From this list, you can select a program to view.
Playback and Recording Controls
VCR/DVD/VOD KEYS: These buttons perform standard playback functions (like play, pause, stop, rewind, fast forward) for VCRs and DVD players. In Cable mode, they may control Video-On-Demand (VOD) features.
RECORD: Initiates recording of the program currently being watched.
Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Aspect Ratio
ASPECT/#: Adjusts the screen aspect ratio for High Definition (HD) content, allowing you to choose the best viewing format (e.g., 4:3, 16:9).
PIP CH +/-: Selects the channel to be displayed in the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) window. This allows viewing of one channel while watching another.
MOVE: Repositions the PIP window to a different location on the main screen.
ON-OFF: Toggles the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) window on or off, controlling its visibility on the screen.
VIDEO SOURCE: Allows selection of different video inputs or sources available from your connected components (e.g., switching between TV, DVD, or other inputs).
SWAP: Exchanges the content displayed in the main screen with the content in the PIP window. The channel currently in the PIP window will then appear on the main screen.
Other Controls
NUMBER PAD: Use the numeric keys (0-9) to directly tune to a specific channel by entering its number. These keys are also used for entering numeric data in on-screen menus.
LIGHT BUTTON: Activates the backlight for all keypad buttons, improving visibility in low light conditions. Pressing it again turns off the backlight, or it will automatically turn off after approximately 10 seconds of inactivity.
