When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should be observed, including:

Grounding Instructions

This appliance must be connected to a properly grounded wiring system. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a safe path of least resistance for electrical current, reducing the risk of electrical shock. The cord for this appliance has an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. It must only be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

NOTICE: To reduce the risk of a leaking condition, do not store where freezing may occur. Damage to internal components may result. Store machine in protected, dry area at room temperature (40°F - 104°F).

What's in the Box?

Assembly

  1. Wrap hose around the bottom of the machine.
  2. Secure hose on the hose clip.

Filling the SmartMix™ Tank

For optimal performance, use genuine BISSELL® formulas. Other formulas or household cleaners may cause defects or damage.

  1. Choose your formula.
  2. Remove the SmartMix tank by gripping the handle and lifting it up.
  3. Unscrew the cap on the water side of the tank.
  4. Add warm water (140°F/60°C maximum) to the water fill line.
  5. Align the cap with the tank and fully insert. Securely screw the cap onto the tank.
  6. Open the formula cap.
  7. Slowly pour in formula. The formula side of the tank can fit half of an 8 oz formula bottle. A formula level indicator ball helps visually show the remaining amount.
  8. Close the formula cap until it clicks. Align the tank with the machine and press down until it clicks into place.

Using Your Machine

  1. Unwrap the power cord and plug into a grounded outlet.
  2. Choose your desired cleaning method:
    Deep Clean Mode: Automatically mixes the correct ratio of formula and water to clean tough stains.
    Rinse Mode: Provides an option for water-only cleaning.
  3. Unwrap the hose.
  4. Attach the tool to the end of the hose grip until it clicks into place.
  5. To turn the machine on, flip the power switch to the ON (I) position.

Before Use:

Using the Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool

  1. To turn the machine off, flip the power switch to the OFF (0) position.
  2. Choose your cleaning method: Use the bristle block for everyday soft surface cleaning, or the Rubberized Pet Hair Removal block to remove embedded pet hair and debris.
  3. Pull the bottom latch to release the bristle block from the tool.
  4. Insert your preferred tool block; it will click into place.
  5. Slide the tool lever up to ensure the tool is in SPRAY mode.
  6. While holding the tool above the desired area, press and hold the trigger to spray solution.
  7. Release the spray trigger and gently scrub the stain using the bristles.
  8. With the trigger released, press the tool firmly against the surface and pull towards you to remove the stain. Repeat as needed.

Emptying the Dirty Water Tank

Empty the dirty water tank when the "MAX" full line is reached. Do not allow water level to exceed the MAX full line.

  1. Empty the dirty water tank.
  2. Tilt and pull the dirty water tank away from the machine to remove it.
  3. Pull up on the dirty tank lid to remove it.
  4. Pour out dirty water and rinse the tank.
  5. Reinstall the tank lid.
  6. Tilt and rotate the tank back into place. Push firmly near the top of the tank until it clicks into place.

Cleaning and Storing Your Machine

Cleaning Machine with Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool (select models)

  1. Turn the machine ON. Slide the tool lever down for CLEANOUT mode.
  2. Press the trigger to activate the CLEANOUT function. Solution mixture will come through the tool and the hose.
  3. To continue cleaning with your machine, slide the tool's lever upward to return to spray mode.

General Cleaning and Storage

  1. To disconnect tools, push down on the button above the hose grip and pull straight off. Do NOT twist the tool to remove it.
  2. Remove the tool lens and rinse.
  3. Rinse tools under clean, running water. Allow tools to dry.
  4. When finished using the product, wrap the cord and hose for storage. Store indoors in a dry location where the product is not likely to get damaged.
