Product Overview
The DOD Meatbox SubSynth is an effects pedal designed to add deep octave and synthesized sub-harmonic frequencies to your instrument's signal. It offers intuitive control over these tonal shaping elements, making it a versatile tool for bassists and guitarists seeking to expand their sound palette.
Controls and Features
The pedal features a red enclosure with four main control knobs, a footswitch, and an LED indicator.
Pedal Layout Description:
The pedal is red with four silver-colored knobs arranged in a 2x2 grid. Below the knobs, there is a blue LED indicator and a silver footswitch. The DOD logo and "MEATBOX SUBSYNTH" are printed on the pedal. Labeling for the controls is present in both English and German.
Control Descriptions:
- 1. OCTAVE: Regulates the amount of deep octave added to the signal.
- 2. OUTPUT: Regulates the overall output level of the effect.
- 3. SUB: Regulates the amount of synthesized sub-harmonic effect added to the signal.
- 4. LOW: Regulates the low-frequency content of the overall effect.
WARNING: Begin with the OUTPUT and LOW controls at minimum and gradually increase their levels to avoid potential speaker damage.
- 5. INPUT: Connect your instrument here.
- 6. FOOTSWITCH: Engages or disengages the effect.
- 7. LED: Lights up when the effect is active.
- 8. OUTPUT: Connect to the next pedal input or your amplifier. This output allows a dry, unprocessed signal (Ring) and a processed signal (Tip) to be sent simultaneously via a TRS Y-cable to an amplifier and other effects.
- Tip = Octave+Sub
- Ring = Dry
- Sleeve = Ground
Using the Meatbox
Most bassists prefer to place the Meatbox at the beginning of their effect chain. Guitarists may find it works better after distortion effects or towards the end of their effect chain. A typical effect signal chain consists of distortion effects first, followed by modulation effects (Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, etc.), and finally time-based effects (Delay and Reverb). Experimentation with different effect placements is encouraged.

- For indoor use only.
- Do not block any ventilation openings. Install according to manufacturer instructions.
- Do not install near heat sources like radiators, heaters, stoves, or other equipment (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Use only manufacturer-specified accessories.
- Unplug the unit during thunderstorms or prolonged periods of non-use.
- Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, especially at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, or table specified by the manufacturer or sold with the apparatus. If a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
- Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
- The power switch used in this unit does not interrupt the connection to the mains when it is in the OFF position.
- The plug must remain readily accessible. If rack mounting or installation where the plug is not accessible, an all-pole mains switch with a contact separation of at least 3 mm in each pole must be incorporated into the rack or building's electrical installation.
- When connecting to a 240V supply, a CSA/UL certified power cord suitable for this supply must be used.
Electrical Safety:
- CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK - DO NOT OPEN.
- ATTENTION: RISQUE DE CHOC ÉLECTRIQUE - NE PAS OUVRIR.
- WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT EXPOSE THIS EQUIPMENT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
- ATTENTION: POUR RÉDUIRE LE RISQUE D'INCENDIE OU D'ÉLECTROCUTION N'EXPOSEZ PAS CET APPAREIL À LA PLUIE OU À L'HUMIDITÉ.
- The symbols shown are internationally recognized symbols warning of potential hazards with electrical products. A lightning bolt with an arrowhead in an equilateral triangle indicates that hazardous voltages are present within the unit. An exclamation mark in an equilateral triangle indicates that the user must consult the instruction manual.
- These symbols indicate that there are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. Do not open the unit. Do not attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Opening the case for any reason will void the manufacturer's warranty.
- Do not get the unit wet. If liquid is spilled on the unit, turn it off immediately and take it to a dealer for servicing. Disconnect the unit from the power supply during lightning storms to prevent damage.
- Do not use above 2000m altitude.
UK Plug Safety (if applicable):
- A molded plug that has been cut off from the cord is unsafe. Dispose of the plug at a suitable disposal facility.
- DO NOT, under any circumstances, plug a damaged or cut-off plug into a 13-amp socket.
- Do not use the plug without its fuse cover. Replacement fuse covers can be obtained from your local dealer. Replacement fuses are 13 Ampere and MUST be ASTA approved to BS1362.
Power Cord Wiring:
WARNING: THIS UNIT MUST BE CONNECTED TO A MAINS SOCKET WITH PROTECTIVE EARTH.
The conductors of the mains cord are colored in accordance with the following code:
GREEN AND YELLOW – EARTH / BLUE – NEUTRAL / BROWN – LIVE
Since the colors of the conductors of this unit's mains cord may not correspond with the colored markings of the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
- The GREEN AND YELLOW colored wire MUST be connected to the terminal in the plug marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol ⏚ or colored GREEN or GREEN AND YELLOW.
- The BLUE colored wire MUST be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or BLACK.
- The BROWN colored wire MUST be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or RED.
This unit may require the use of a different mains cable, a different connector plug, or both, depending on the mains supply available at the installation.
If the connector plug needs to be changed, leave the servicing to qualified service personnel. The green/yellow cable must be connected directly to the unit chassis.
Wire Color Table:
CONDUCTOR | WIRE COLOR (Normal) | WIRE COLOR (Alt) | |
---|---|---|---|
L | LIVE | BROWN | BLACK |
N | NEUTRAL | BLUE | WHITE |
E | EARTH GND | GREEN/YEL | GREEN |
CAUTION: IF THE EARTH CONNECTION IS INTERRUPTED, CERTAIN FAULT CONDITIONS IN THE UNIT OR SYSTEM TO WHICH IT IS CONNECTED MAY RESULT IN FULL MAINS VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE CHASSIS AND EARTH. SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH CAN THEN RESULT IF THE CHASSIS AND EARTH ARE TOUCHED SIMULTANEOUSLY.
