DOD Meatbox SubSynth
Product Overview
The DOD Meatbox SubSynth is an effects pedal designed for guitar and bass, known for its sub-harmonic synthesis and octave effects. It offers unique tonal shaping capabilities for musicians seeking deep, resonant bass frequencies and synthesized textures.
Pedal Description: The pedal is housed in a red enclosure with white stripes. It features four control knobs labeled 'Octave', 'Output', 'Sub', and 'Low'. A blue LED indicator light is present below the controls, and a silver footswitch is located at the bottom center. The DOD logo and 'Meatbox SubSynth' branding are prominently displayed.
Controls
- Octave: Adjusts the amount of low octave added to the signal.
- Output: Sets the overall output level of the effect.
- Sub: Adjusts the amount of synthesized sub-harmonic effect added to the signal.
- Low: Adjusts the low-frequency content of the overall effect.
- Input: Connect your instrument here (1/4" TS Unbalanced).
- Footswitch: Engages or disengages the effect.
- LED: Illuminates when the effect is active.
- Output: Connect to the next pedal in your chain or your amplifier (1/4" TRS Unbalanced). This output allows you to send the dry (Ring) and processed (Tip) signals to your amplifier and other effects simultaneously via a TRS 'Y' cable. (Tip = Octave+Sub, Ring = Dry, Sleeve = Ground)
Usage
Recommended Placement
Most bassists prefer placing the Meatbox at the beginning of their effects chain. Guitarists may find it beneficial to place it after distortion effects or towards the end of their effects chain. A typical effects signal chain might include distortion, modulation effects (Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, etc.), and time-based effects (Delay and Reverb). Experiment with different effect positions for desired results.

Polarized and Grounding Plugs
Do not disregard the safety purpose of a polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades, one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding pin. These features are for your safety. If the supplied plug does not fit your outlet, consult an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet.
Protect the power-supply cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
Servicing: Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
Power Switch and Mains Disconnection
The power switch used in this unit does not disconnect the unit from the mains supply. The mains plug must remain accessible. For rack mounting or other installations where the plug is inaccessible, a mains disconnect with all poles having a contact separation of at least 3 mm in each pole must be incorporated into the electrical installation of the rack or building.
If connected to a 240 V supply, a CSA/UL certified power cord must be used for this supply.
Wiring Instructions
Warning: This apparatus should be connected to a mains socket with protective earthing. The conductors in the mains lead are colored in accordance with the following code: Green and Yellow – Earth / Blue – Neutral / Brown – Live. As the colors of the conductors in the mains cable of this apparatus may not correspond with the color markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
- The green and yellow colored conductor must be connected to the terminal in the plug marked with the letter E, or with the earth symbol ⏚, or colored green, or green and yellow.
- The blue colored conductor must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or colored black.
- The brown colored conductor must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or colored red.
