1.4 Installing the Correct Adapter

The Danfoss EcoTM unit box includes an adapter selection guide to help you find the correct adapter for your valve. If you need further assistance, follow the QR code in the guide and the video instructions.

The guide illustrates how to identify and fit adapters for various valve types, including RA Danfoss, M30 x 1.5, RAV, RAVL, RTD, M28 (MMA, Herz, Orkli, COMAP), Caleffi, and Giacomini valves.

1.5 Installing Batteries

Remove the battery cover as shown in the illustration and insert two AA batteries. Ensure correct polarity. Rechargeable batteries should not be used. Upon replacing batteries, time and date settings will be immediately lost. After replacing batteries, reconnect to a smartphone to activate a schedule. The red ring will flash. Reconnect to the app, and the time and date will be reset. If you do not reconnect, the sensor will remain in manual mode.

The low battery symbol appears approximately one month before the batteries are depleted. Before the batteries run out, the Danfoss EcoTM unit will set the valve to the frost protection position to safeguard the heating system from potential damage. The estimated battery life is up to two years.

1.6 Mounting Danfoss EcoTM

Screw the Danfoss EcoTM onto the mounted adapter until you hear a click. After correctly fitting the thermostat, adjust the display to your desired orientation. A large flashing 'M' will appear on the display, indicating that installation mode is activated. Press and hold the button for three seconds. The temperature setpoint will be displayed after mounting the Danfoss EcoTM.

1.7 Downloading the Danfoss EcoTM App

Download the Danfoss EcoTM application from your smartphone's app store.

1.8 Connecting Danfoss EcoTM

Note: Activate your smartphone's Bluetooth function to establish a connection with the Danfoss EcoTM device. Follow the instructions in the Danfoss EcoTM app to connect your device. The Bluetooth system range is 10 m (depending on the building layout and surroundings).

1.9 Automatic Adjustments

Once installed, Danfoss EcoTM will automatically begin adjusting to your heating system. This process will continue for the first week after installation. During this period, you may observe the thermostat reacting slowly or adjusting the heating up and down on its own. This is normal and part of the necessary adjustment process.

  1. Valve Adjustment: During the first night of operation, Danfoss EcoTM will close the radiator valve and reopen it to detect the exact opening point. This allows Danfoss EcoTM to control heat most efficiently. If necessary, this procedure will repeat once each night for up to a week.
  2. Adaptive Learning: If you enable the adaptive learning function, Danfoss EcoTM learns when the room heating needs to be turned on to reach the correct temperature at the right time. The intelligent control continuously adjusts heating times to seasonal temperature changes. With the energy-saving program, the heating system needs to have sufficient heat for a short period during warm-up. If problems are detected, contact your installer.

1.10 Uninstalling Danfoss EcoTM

  1. Press and hold until a large 'M' flashes, indicating installation mode.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Press the tab firmly and unscrew the thermostat from the adapter.

1.11 Resetting Danfoss EcoTM to Default Settings

  1. Remove the cover and take out one of the batteries.
  2. Press and hold while reinserting the battery. The screen will turn blank after approximately three seconds.

3.1 Display Screen

Briefly press the button to display the screen. Danfoss EcoTM shows the set temperature, not the measured ambient temperature.

Display Symbols:

  • The installation mode must always be active when installing or uninstalling the Danfoss EcoTM device. Otherwise, the thermostat could suffer irreparable damage.
  • Temperature is shown in Celsius. Danfoss EcoTM displays the set temperature, not the measured ambient temperature.
  • Program Mode: The antenna symbol ? flashes if you need to connect the app to the thermostat. If connected, the red ring ? will be illuminated (screen will be blank).
  • Low Battery: A battery icon ? will flash on the display. If the battery level is critical, the red ring ? will flash.

3.2 Red Light Ring

The red ring will always be on when connected to the Danfoss EcoTM app. It will also flash to indicate a critical battery level.

3.3 Screen Rotation

Danfoss EcoTM can be mounted horizontally or vertically, depending on the radiator valve. You can adjust the screen rotation to 'horizontal' or 'vertical' in the Advanced Settings of the Danfoss EcoTM app.

3.4 Manual Mode

The Danfoss EcoTM device can be used without the Danfoss EcoTM app in manual mode. Functionality will be reduced. Use the manual dial to adjust the temperature. The display shows the required temperature, not the ambient temperature. In manual mode, it is not possible to adjust comfort temperature, reduction temperature, or times.

4. Temperature and Program Settings

4.1 Time

The device will obtain the correct time from your smartphone. Manual time adjustment is not necessary. Danfoss EcoTM uses a 24-hour time display.

Note: If you have removed the batteries from the Danfoss EcoTM device, you will need to connect to the Danfoss EcoTM app to correct the time after reinserting the batteries.

4.2 Default Temperatures

The default temperatures for the Danfoss EcoTM device are as follows:

IconNameDefault Temperature
?Home21 °C
?Away/Sleep17 °C
✈️Holiday15 °C

The default temperatures can be modified in the Danfoss EcoTM app.

4.3 Setting Temperatures

Set your own temperatures for reduction periods in the Danfoss EcoTM app. Scroll through the temperatures to adjust your preferred settings. The Danfoss EcoTM device can be adjusted from 5 to 28 °C. Danfoss recommends that the difference between the 'Home' and 'Away/Sleep' temperatures does not exceed four degrees.

Note: Temperature changes made on the home screen are temporary (until the next reduction period).

4.4 Creating Your Own Schedule

You can create your own schedule in the Danfoss EcoTM app. You can choose any reduction time for a 24-hour period, with a maximum of three reduction periods per day.

The weekly schedule displays 'Home' periods in red. The 'copy' function allows you to copy a schedule you have created to other days. The Danfoss EcoTM app screen shows the 24-hour clock wheel, with your Home time in red, and a summary of your schedule, with the detailed times set. The minimum 'Home' period is 30 minutes.

4.5 Holidays

Holiday programs maintain the reduction temperature for a user-defined period. Use a holiday program to save energy when you are away for several days. The holiday program is configured using the Danfoss EcoTM app.

The holiday mode can be planned or set immediately ('Now'). Planned holidays use a calendar and time setting. Program your holidays in the Danfoss EcoTM app. The Danfoss EcoTM app screen confirms your holiday dates.

4.6 Overriding a Holiday Program

If you return earlier than planned, you may wish to change the holiday program back to your normal schedule. In the 'Holidays' setting, the Danfoss EcoTM app will offer options to end the holiday period or to edit the dates and times.

4.7 Cancelling a Set Holiday Program

If the holiday period is scheduled for the future, you can only edit the dates or cancel the program.

4.8 Pause

The pause program maintains the reduction temperature until another program is selected. When the temperature is manually lowered on the Danfoss EcoTM device to the minimum level, a notification message is displayed, and the central icon changes to 'Pause'. To exit pause mode, click the central icon in the Danfoss EcoTM app and return to the programmed or manual setpoint.

4.9 Open Window Function

Danfoss EcoTM features an open window function that closes the valve if the ambient temperature drops significantly, thereby reducing heat loss. The heating turns off for 30 minutes, after which Danfoss EcoTM reverts to its original settings. Once the open window function is activated, it remains in quarantine for 45 minutes.

Note: Be aware that the open window function can be affected if curtains or furniture obstruct the Danfoss EcoTM device, preventing it from detecting the temperature drop.

5. Additional Settings

5.1 Setting Options via the Danfoss EcoTM App

The Danfoss EcoTM app provides access to various settings:

  • Thermostats: List of installed Danfoss EcoTM thermostats (by name), option to add a new Danfoss EcoTM, change PIN, and activate child lock.

5.2 Software Updates

The Danfoss EcoTM thermostat can be updated via the Danfoss EcoTM app. The app will notify you when new software is available.

5.3 Data Security

Data security for the Danfoss EcoTM thermostat and the connected app is guaranteed. The system is checked annually by independent specialists. Data encryption protects the wireless connection against threats using the latest encryption technology. The initial connection requires physically pressing the button on the thermostat. User-assigned PIN codes ensure only authorized persons can make system changes. Personal user data, such as temperatures or setpoints, is stored only on the thermostat, accessible only by your personal app. Danfoss continuously maintains and improves security measures through technical and organizational means.

6. Safety Precautions

The thermostat is not a toy and is not intended for use by children. Keep packaging material away from children as it can be hazardous. Do not disassemble the thermostat, as it contains no user-serviceable parts. Never remove the cover for cleaning; the external casing can be cleaned with a soft cloth.

7. Disposal

The thermostat must be disposed of as electronic waste.
