Wolf Wall Oven Series: Component Access & Removal
General Safety Precautions
Before attempting to access or remove any components from a Wolf appliance, it is crucial to observe the following warnings and cautions:
WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRIC SHOCK, POWER TO THE UNIT MUST BE DISCONNECTED WHENEVER SERVICING AND/OR ACCESSING COMPONENTS.
WARNING: KEEP IN MIND THAT OVEN SURFACES AND COMPONENTS GET HOT DURING USE OF THE APPLIANCE.
WARNING: IF IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE A UNIT FROM ITS INSTALLATION, REMEMBER THAT THE UNIT COULD TIP FORWARD WHEN PULLED BEYOND ITS INSTALLATION, RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. PULLING A UNIT FROM ITS INSTALLATION SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE TECHNICIAN OR INSTALLER.
CAUTION: When working on the oven and components, be careful when handling sheet metal parts. There may be sharp edges present.
CAUTION: If removing or disconnecting the door hinges, remember it could recoil quickly when released.
When reassembling components, reverse the steps used for access and removal.
Control Panel Components
Control Panel Assembly Removal
1. Turn off electrical power to the oven.
2. Pull the oven out approximately 12 inches from its installation and remove the front oven top panel.
3. Unplug the control panel flex strip from the oven controller.
4. Extract the screws securing the right side control panel mounting plate and remove the plate.
5. Slide the control panel assembly with flex strip out from the c-channels. Ensure plastic flange bearings on each end of the control panel assembly are not lost.
Control Panel Drive Motor Assembly Removal
1. Unplug the wire harness connector for the drive motor from the stepper motor control board.
2. Extract the screws securing the drive motor assembly to the c-channels.
3. Slide the drive motor assembly from the unit.
C-Channel Top and Bottom Removal
1. Unplug the switch actuator wire harness connector from the stepper motor control board and pull the wire harness out.
2. Extract the screws securing the c-channels to the mounting bracket.
3. Tilt the c-channels down slightly and lift off the mounting pins to remove them from the unit.
4. Separate the top and bottom c-channel by sliding them apart.
Switch Actuator and Plunger Removal
1. The switch actuator and plunger are mounted to the bottom c-channel.
2. Once the c-channels are removed, extract the two screws from the switch actuator bracket and remove.
3. Slide the plunger out from the c-channel.
Latch Cover Removal
1. Extract the two screws that mount the latch cover to the mounting plate.
2. Lift the latch cover from the unit.
Motorized Door Latch Assembly Removal
1. Open the oven door.
2. Extract the screws and remove the face plate.
3. Extract the two screws securing the latch assembly to the mounting bracket (below the control panel).
4. Lift the rear of the latch assembly up from the mounting slots.
5. Slide the latch assembly out to unplug wires from the micro switches and lock motor.
NOTE: Lower Oven MDL on units after 17080033 are spaced back 1/8" by washers between the MDL and middle pan tabs.
Thermal Limiter Removal
Double Oven Lower:
1. Remove the center trim and latch assembly.
2. Extract the two screws securing the limit switch.
3. Lift the limit switch out and disconnect the wires.
Recommended Procedure: Access and removal of the limit switch can also be gained from the rear of the unit by removing the lower cooling fan assembly.
Thermo Limiter Removal
Single Oven & Double oven upper cavity:
1. The thermo limiter is mounted on the back panel above the left convection fan.
2. Remove the unit from its installation.
3. Disconnect the wiring to the limiter and remove.
Resetting the Thermo Limiter: If the thermo limiter has tripped, it can be reset by removing the convection baffle and left convection fan from the oven cavity (single oven) or upper cavity (double oven). Reach through the left convection fan opening. The limiter is located directly above the opening and to the right. Reset the limit.
Oven Controller Removal
1. The oven control board is located next to the control panel drive motor assembly.
2. Remove all wire connectors mounted to the control board. NOTE: Mark wire connectors for proper location during reattachment.
3. Extract the four screws securing the control board and lift out.
Stepper Motor Control Board Removal
1. Extract the screws securing the oven control board to the mounting plate.
2. Lift the board up slightly and slide it towards the center unit to release mounting tabs.
3. Remove all wire connectors from the board and remove. NOTE: Mark wiring locations for proper placement during reassembly.
Relay Board Removal
1. Extract the screw located at the front of the relay board.
2. Lift the front of the relay board up slightly and slide it towards the front of the unit to disengage mounting bracket tabs.
3. Disconnect the wiring from the relay board and remove.
NOTE: For double ovens, both relay boards may need to be removed for wiring access.
NOTE: The rear top oven panel may need to be removed for access to certain components.
Light Transformer Removal (Units prior to SN 17077137)
1. Disconnect the transformer wiring at the molex connectors.
2. Extract the two screws securing the transformer to the mounting plate and lift out.
Light Fuse Removal (Units prior to SN 17077137)
1. The light fuse is located behind the molex connector for the light transformer.
2. Push and turn the fuse holder together, then separate its halves.
3. Remove the fuse from the fuse holder.
Components Behind Back Panel
WARNING: IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE UNIT FROM ITS INSTALLATION. REMEMBER THAT THE UNIT COULD TIP FORWARD WHEN PULLED BEYOND ITS INSTALLATION.
WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRIC SHOCK, POWER TO THE UNIT MUST BE DISCONNECTED WHENEVER SERVICING AND/OR ACCESSING COMPONENTS.
Back Panel Removal
1. Extract all screws securing the back panel to the unit and remove.
Divider Channels
1. Disconnect and remove any wiring routed through the channels.
2. Extract the screws securing the channels to the unit and remove. NOTE: Mark wire locations for proper placement during reinstallation.
Lower Cooling Fan and Cover Removal
1. Remove the back panel.
2. Extract screws from the left and right sides of the cooling fan cover.
3. Extract the screw from inside the fan cover secured to the divider channel.
4. Remove the fan and cover together. To separate, extract screws securing the cover to the fan.
Bake Element Removal
1. Remove the back panel.
2. Disconnect wiring routed through divider channels and disconnect the bake element harness connector.
3. Extract screws from the bake pan assembly.
4. Pull the bake element from the unit.
CAUTION: The insulation around the hidden bake element is very fragile. Removal should be done with great care.
NOTE: Wiring may need to be routed around the bake element for full removal.
NOTE: Mark wire locations for proper placement during reinstallation.
NOTE: Wire ties may need to be cut to provide more space for bake element removal.
Oven Side Components
WARNING: IT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE UNIT FROM ITS INSTALLATION, REMEMBER THAT THE UNIT COULD TIP FORWARD WHEN PULLED BEYOND ITS INSTALLATION.
WARNING: TO AVOID ELECTRIC SHOCK, POWER TO THE UNIT MUST BE DISCONNECTED WHENEVER SERVICING AND/OR ACCESSING COMPONENTS.
Channel Venting Removal
1. The channel is held by rear tabs and front screws.
2. Extract screws around the channel.
3. Lift the front of the channel slightly while disengaging tabs from the side enclosure.
Hinge Pocket Removal
1. Remove the oven door first.
2. Extract the screw below the hinge slot at the front bottom of the oven cavity.
3. Extract screws around the hinge pocket and remove.
Enclosure Removal
1. Remove the channel venting and hinge pocket.
2. Extract screws from hold down brackets and remove.
3. Extract screws around the enclosure.
4. Slide the enclosure towards the rear so its front is out from behind the oven cavity.
5. Pull the top of the enclosure out from under the pan module.
6. Lift the enclosure from the side of the unit.
Insulation Removal
1. Remove the channel venting, hinge pocket, and enclosure.
2. Remove hinge cavity insulation, light insulation, and cavity side insulation.
Oven Door Components
Oven Door Removal
1. Open the door to its fully opened position.
2. Extract the screw and remove the plate from each side of the door hinges.
3. Install the provided pin (shipped taped to the inside of the oven door) through the hole in the left hinge arm.
CAUTION: If the pin device is too long, it may rub against the inner door liner and chip the porcelain.
4. Lift the oven door to about a 60-degree angle from the horizontal.
5. Pull the door away from the oven while continuing to lift and remove.
Reinstallation: Grasp the oven door on opposite sides and lift until hinges align with oven frame openings. Hold the door at a 30-degree angle from vertical. Slide hinges into openings until bottom hinge arms drop into receptacles. Lower the door to fully opened position and remove the pin. Open and close the door to ensure proper installation.
Door Adjustments
1. To adjust door height, loosen screws on the hinge pocket.
2. Raise or lower the oven door to the desired height.
3. Retighten hinge pocket screws. Repeat for each side until desired height is obtained.
Door Gasket Removal
1. Open the oven door.
2. Locate small clips attached to the underside of the gasket and pull them from mounting holes.
3. Pull gasket ends out from the bottom of the door liner and remove.
NOTE: On units starting with serial #16000000, the gasket is mounted to the front collar of the cavity. Removal procedure is the same.
Outer Door Skin Assembly Removal
1. Remove the oven door assembly and lay it on its front.
2. Extract two screws from the inside top of the door liner.
3. Extract three screws from the bottom of the outer door skin.
4. Remove the outer door skin with handle.
5. Extract four screws from the door handle assembly and remove.
6. Remove heat shield and insulation from the outer door skin.
Glass Pack Removal
NOTE: Ensure proper length screws are used during reassembly.
1. Remove oven door assembly and outer door skin assembly.
2. Extract the screw at the bottom center of the door liner.
3. Extract seven screws at the top of the heat shield and remove.
4. Carefully remove insulation from around the glass pack.
5. Extract screws from the top of the inner heat shield and remove.
6. Lift the top of the glass pack slightly while pulling it out from under the bottom tabs and remove.
CAUTION: When removing or disconnecting the door hinge, remember it could recoil quickly when released.
Hinge Removal
1. Remove the oven door assembly and outer door skin assembly.
2. Extract two screws at the bottom corner of the door liner.
3. Raise the bottom of the door hinge assembly from the door liner.
4. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully raise the tab at the top of the hinge and slide the hinge out from under the tab and remove.
Hydraulic Hinge Removal
1. Remove the oven door assembly and outer door skin assembly.
2. Extract two screws at the bottom corner of the door liner.
3. Raise the bottom of the hydraulic hinge assembly from the door liner.
4. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully raise the tab at the top of the hydraulic hinge and slide the hinge out from under the tab and remove.
Oven Cavity Components
WARNING: TURN OFF THE ELECTRICAL POWER GOING TO THE OVEN BEFORE SERVICING.
Left and Right Rack Guide Removal
1. Remove oven racks.
2. Extract screws in each corner, top and bottom of the rack guide and lift guide out.
NOTE: On units starting with serial #16000000, rack guides remove without screws. Lift upwards to disengage the shoulder screw from the keyhole slot.
Oven Lights Removal
1. Remove oven racks and guides.
2. Gently pull the light cover off the light housing.
3. Remove the light bulb from the socket.
NOTE: When replacing the bulb, use a clean cloth to avoid fingerprints, as residue can cause premature burnout.
Convection Baffle Plate Removal
1. Remove racks and rack guides.
2. Extract screws in each corner, top and bottom of the convection baffle plate and remove.
Other Components
Probe Cover and Probe Switch Removal
1. Raise the probe cover.
2. Using a wrench, loosen and remove the nut.
3. The cover can now be removed.
NOTE: To remove the probe switch, the unit needs to be pulled out approximately 8 inches.
4. Extract the screw and remove the access panel for the probe switch.
5. Pull the switch from the oven cavity and disconnect wires from switch terminals.
Temperature Sensor Removal
1. Extract two screws securing the sensor to the oven cavity.
2. Carefully pull the sensor with wire leads straight out from the oven cavity until the molex connector is inside.
3. Unplug the molex connector and remove the temperature sensor.
NOTE: Ensure the male end of the molex connector does not fall back into the hole after disconnection. If it does, the unit may need to be pulled out for reconnection.
Convection Fan Assembly Removal
1. Remove racks, rack guides, and convection baffle plate.
2. Extract seven screws around the convection fan and the top screw between the element.
3. Pull the fan assembly into the oven cavity and disconnect wiring.
Broil Element and Broil Pan Removal
1. Remove racks from the unit.
2. Extract four screws securing the element and broil pan to the ceiling of the oven cavity.
3. Extract two screws securing the element leads through the oven cavity.
4. Pull the element forward and down into the oven cavity until terminals and wires are exposed.
5. Disconnect wires and remove the element and broil pan.
Smoke Catalyst Removal
1. The catalyst is in the rear ceiling of the oven cavity.
2. Extract two screws and pull the catalyst straight down and remove.
Bake Stone Receptacle Removal
WARNING: IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS, THE ENTIRE OVEN WILL HAVE TO BE REMOVED FROM ITS INSTALLATION.
1. Remove the ceramic receptacle plug from inside the oven cavity.
2. From the rear of the oven, extract two nuts securing the receptacle to the cavity and remove.
3. The retainer plate can now be removed from the inside oven cavity.
