Blaupunkt Dakota BP800PLAY Car Multimedia System

This document provides instructions for the Blaupunkt Dakota BP800PLAY car multimedia system.

Controls – Device

The device features several controls:

  • 1: [Siri Voice Control Button] - Activates Siri voice control.
  • 2: [Power/Mute Button] - Short press to switch on/off the device. In operation, short press to mute audio source. Long press to switch off the device.
  • 3: [Menu/Back Button] - Calls up the main menu or returns to the previous source.
  • 4: [Volume Bar Button] - Shows the volume bar.
  • 5: [USB/AV IN/Reset Port] - USB socket, AV IN jack, and Reset button. Accessible via an open cover; press the bottom of the cover to pop it open.
  • 6: Touchscreen user interface.
  • 7: microSD card reader.

Safety Notes

The car sound system is manufactured according to state-of-the-art and established safety guidelines. Dangers may occur if safety notes are not observed.

  • Read these instructions carefully and completely before use.
  • Keep instructions accessible to all users.
  • Always pass the system on with these instructions.
  • Observe instructions of connected devices.

Symbols Used:

  • DANGER!: Warns about injuries.
  • DANGER!: Warns about high volume.
  • CE: Confirms compliance with EU directives.
  • [Sequencing Step Icon]: Identifies a sequencing step.
  • [Listing Icon]: Identifies a listing.

Road Safety:

  • Operate the device safely while controlling the vehicle. Stop if necessary.
  • Do not use applications that distract from traffic.
  • Follow driving recommendations only if they do not violate traffic regulations. Traffic signs and regulations have priority.
  • Listen at a moderate volume to protect hearing and be aware of warning signals. Avoid increasing volume during mute phases.

General Safety Notes:

  • Do not modify or open the device.
  • Use as directed: intended for 12 V vehicle systems and DIN slot installation. Observe output limits. Specialist installation/repairs recommended.

Cleaning Notes:

Use only a dry or slightly moistened cloth. Avoid solvents, cleaning agents, dashboard spray, and plastic care products, as they may damage surfaces.

Disposal Notes:

Do not dispose of in household trash. Use available return and collection systems for the device, remote control, and batteries.

Placing the Device in Operation

Switching On/Off:

  • With Button: Press the [Power Button] to switch on. Hold the [Power Button] for more than 2 seconds to switch off.
  • Via Vehicle Ignition: If connected to the vehicle ignition, the system switches on/off with the ignition.

Volume:

Adjust volume from 0 (off) to 39 (maximum) by pressing the [Volume Bar Button] and dragging left/right on the volume bar.

Muting:

Briefly press the [Power/Mute Button] to mute or reactivate the previous volume.

Main Menu:

Access the main menu by pressing the [Menu Button] on the touchscreen or by pressing the top-left corner of the current source display.

Setting the Reception Area:

Navigate to Settings > General > Radio Region to select the desired reception area for radio frequencies.

Radio Mode

Start Radio Mode:

Press the [Radio Button] in the main menu to display the radio playback menu.

Select Memory Band:

Press the [Band Button] to switch between FM and AM bands. Up to 18 FM and 12 AM stations can be stored per bank.

Tuning into a Station:

  • Manual Tuning: Press the [Seek Left Button] or [Seek Right Button] for approx. 2 seconds to change frequency incrementally.
  • Direct Frequency Input: Press the [Frequency Input Button] to bring up a numeric keypad, enter the desired frequency, and press [OK Button].
  • Station Seek Tuning: Briefly press the [Seek Left Button] or [Seek Right Button] to tune to the next receivable station.

Storing Stations Manually:

Select a memory band and station. Press and hold one of the memory buttons (P1-P6) on the screen for approx. 2 seconds to store the current station.

Storing Stations Automatically (Travelstore):

Press the [ ... ] and [Seek Button] to automatically search and store the 6 strongest FM stations in the current memory bank. Previously stored stations are deleted.

Manual Store:

  1. Tune to a station manually.
  2. Touch the [Preset Button].
  3. Touch one of the channels (P1-P6) to save the selected station.

Tune to a Preset Station:

  1. Touch the [Preset Button].
  2. Touch one of the preset channels on the screen.

Adjusting Seek Tuning Sensitivity:

Press the [ ... ] and [LOC Button] to adjust sensitivity. If LOC is on, only strong signals are found; if off, both strong and weak signals are found.

RDS (Radio Data System):

Press the [ ... ] and [RDS Button] to show RDS options. RDS service availability varies by area.

USB/microSDHC Media Playback

Audio Playback:

Select USB or microSDHC from the main menu. Press the [Folder/File List Button] if playback doesn't start automatically. Press the [Audio Files Button] to display all audio files. Tap on a folder/track to play.

Playback Controls:

  • [Seek Left Button] / [Fast Search Button]: Short press for title selection, long press for fast searching.
  • [Play/Pause Button]: Interrupt or continue playback.
  • [Options Button]: Show additional operating options.

Repeat Modes:

Press the [Repeat Button] to cycle through Repeat Current Track, Repeat Current Folder, or Repeat All Tracks of Data Carrier.

Mix Function:

Press the [Mix Button] to start/end random track play. A [X Symbol] indicates MIX is active.

Video Playback:

Select Video source. Press the [Folder/File List Button] if playback doesn't start. Press the [Video Files Button] to display all video files.

Image Playback:

Select Image source. Press the [Folder/File List Button] if playback doesn't start. Press the [Image Files Button] to display all images.

Bluetooth Mode

The Bluetooth function allows registering cell phones and media playback devices for hands-free calling and music playback (A2DP/AVRCP support required).

Starting Bluetooth Mode:

Press [BT Phone Button] in the main menu. The Bluetooth menu lists known devices.

Registering Bluetooth Devices:

Ensure Bluetooth is active on both devices. Search for new devices on your Bluetooth device. The system appears as "Blaupunkt". Establish connection, potentially using a pairing code.

Telephone Mode:

After connecting a phone, access the phone book ([Phone Book Button]), call lists ([Call List Button]), or dial keypad ([Dial Keypad Button]). Disconnect with [Disconnect Button].

  • To answer a call: Press [Answer Call Button].
  • To reject a call: Press [Reject Call Button].

Alphabetic Search:

Press the [Search Button] in the Phonebook to search for contacts by entering characters via the keypad.

Audio Playback via Bluetooth Streaming:

Press the [BT Music Button] to play music. Use playback controls similar to USB/microSDHC.

Bluetooth Settings:

Access settings via the [Settings Button] in the Bluetooth menu. Options include Auto Connect, Auto Answer, and Synchronous Phone-Book.

Apple CarPlay

CarPlay provides a safer way to use your iPhone in the car, displaying navigation, calls, messages, and music on the car's display.

How to Enter CarPlay Mode:

  1. Connect your iPhone to the unit via the Apple Digital Cable. The unit will automatically enter CarPlay mode.
  2. To exit CarPlay mode, touch the [Exit Button] on the front panel.

How to Use CarPlay:

CarPlay features and Siri voice control are optimized for driving. Use the [Siri Voice Control Button] on the front panel to activate Siri. The touchscreen controls CarPlay features.

Android Auto

Android Auto brings useful phone apps to your car display, focusing on navigation, calls, messages, and music.

Prepare Your Phone:

  • Ensure your phone runs Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher (6.0 Marshmallow recommended for best performance).
  • Download the Android Auto app from Google Play.
  • Ensure a strong, fast network connection.

Requirements:

  • Android phone (Android 5.0+ with data plan).
  • Car mount (optional).
  • USB cable.
  • Android Auto app.

External Audio/Video Sources

AV Inputs:

The device has two external AV inputs for audio and video. AV-IN is a cinch socket at the rear. Danger! Increased risk of injury from connector. Use of straight plugs or adapters in the front AV-IN socket may cause injury in an accident.

Start AV-IN mode using the [Aux Front Button] or [Aux Back Button]. The display shows the audio or video playback.

Sound Settings

Volume Distribution (Fader/Balance):

Adjust volume distribution by pressing the [Sound Settings Button] in the main menu or control bar, then the [Fader/Balance Button].

Equalizer:

Access the equalizer via the [Sound Settings Button]. Select presets or use the [Customize Button] to adjust frequency bands. The [Original Button] resets settings. The [Loudness Button] toggles bass boost at low volume.

Steering Wheel Control

Select [SWC Button] in the General Settings menu to enter the SWC setting menu. Touch a number button to select an SWC button, then press the corresponding steering wheel control button to program it. Touch [Match Button] to save.

Basic Settings

Access basic settings by pressing the [Settings Button] in the main menu. The General submenu is activated by default.

General Settings:

  • Select OSD language.
  • Select key color.
  • Select reception region for radio.
  • Switch confirmation beep on/off.
  • Enter SWC menu.
  • Switch LOC function on/off (affects seek tuning sensitivity).

Video Settings:

  • Day/Night Mode.
  • Adjust display brightness.
  • If "Parking" is activated, video/pictures are not displayed during driving.

Volume Settings:

Adjust the volume ratio for all audio sources in the volume menu.

Time

  • Make settings for date and time.
  • Select time and date format.

System

  • View software version information.
  • Restore to default settings.

Connection Diagram

The connection diagram illustrates the wiring for the system. Key connections include:

  • Power Line: Power supply.
  • Speaker Line: Connects to speakers.
  • Radio Antenna: For radio reception.
  • USB: For USB media.
  • LINE OUT & AV IN: Includes AUX IN L/R, AUX IN CVBS, REAR L/R, FRONT L/R, SUB.1/SUB.2.
  • MIC LINE: For microphone input.
  • SWC & CAMERA LINE: For steering wheel control and camera input. Includes PARKING, REVERSE, P.CONT, SWC1, SWC2, SWC GND connections with specific wire colors (e.g., Green with white, Pink, Blue, Orange with white, Brown with white, Black).
  • CAMERAIN: For camera input.
  • VIDEO OUT: For video output.
