Controls - Device
Description of the device's physical controls.
- 1 RADIO button: Starts radio mode. In radio mode, selects waveband/memory bank.
- 2 PHONE button: Starts Bluetooth mode. In telephone mode, calls up the menu of the last source.
- 3 NAVI button: Calls up navigation. In navigation mode, calls up the menu of the active source.
- 4 SRC button: Short press selects source. Long press calls up the main menu.
- 5 Left rotary/pushbutton: Short press switches on the device. In operation, mutes audio source. Long press switches off the device. Turn adjusts volume.
- 6 Right rotary/pushbutton: Turn navigates in menus/lists and changes settings; starts station seek tuning; selects track, chapter, film. Short press calls up selected menu entries and confirms settings; starts and interrupts playback. Long press changes to the next higher menu level.
- 7 SETUP button: Calls up/exits settings menu.
- 8 MicroSD card reader: For navigation data. Access only with open cover.
- 9 Cover: Covers access to card readers and sockets.
- 10 Front AV-IN socket (source AV-IN 1): Access only with open cover.
- 11 SD card reader: Access only with open cover.
- 12 Front USB socket (source USB 1): Access only with open cover.
- 13 Reset button: Restores original factory settings. Caution! All personal settings will be lost!
- 14 Eject button: Ejects a CD/DVD.
- 15 DVD/CD drive: For media playback.
- 16 Touchscreen user interface: Primary interaction method.
- 17 Infrared receiver: For remote control.
- 18 Microphone: For hands-free calls.
Controls - Remote Control

Safety Notes
The car sound system is designed with safety in mind, but users must follow the instructions to avoid dangers. Always read and keep the instructions accessible. Pass them on with the device. Observe instructions for connected devices.

Listen at a moderate volume to protect hearing and be aware of warning signals. Volume changes during mute phases are not audible.
General Safety Notes
Do not modify or open the device. It contains a Class 1 laser that can cause eye injuries.

The system is intended for 12V vehicle systems and DIN slot installation. Repairs should be performed by specialists.
Installation Instructions

Placing the Device in Operation
Caution: Transport Securing Screws: Ensure transport securing screws are removed before startup.
Note: The Philadelphia 835 integrates with vehicle data communication for features like parking mode and steering wheel control operation.
Theft Protection
The system is protected by a four-digit code (default 0000). The code must be entered after power interruptions if activated. The code query can be managed in the settings menu.
Entering the Code Number
If required, a keypad appears on the screen. Enter the code and press the [Confirm Button].
Switching On/Off
With Rotary/Pushbutton: Press the left rotary/pushbutton [5] to switch on. Hold for over 2 seconds to switch off.
Via Vehicle Ignition: The device switches on/off with the ignition if connected and previously switched off via the rotary/pushbutton.
Volume and Main Menu
Volume
Adjust volume using the left rotary/pushbutton [5] from 0 to 50.
Muting: Briefly press the left rotary/pushbutton [5] to mute or unmute.
Main Menu
Access different sources and modes by pressing buttons on the touchscreen. Press the SRC button [4] for approximately 2 seconds, or press the [ ... ] button in the current source.
Radio Mode
Start Radio Mode
Press the RADIO button [1], the SRC button [4] repeatedly until Radio is selected, or the Radio button in the main menu.
Select Memory Bank
Up to 6 stations can be stored per memory bank. Cycle through banks using the [Bank Button] or RADIO button [1] repeatedly.
Tuning into a Station
Manual Tuning: Use the [Tuning Buttons] (Left/Right Arrows) to change frequency.
Direct Frequency Entry: In radio mode, press the [Frequency Input Button], enter the frequency via the numeric keypad, and press [Confirm Button].
Starting Station Seek Tuning
Press the [Seek Buttons] (Left/Right Arrows) for approx. 2 seconds, or turn the right rotary control [6]. The device tunes to the next receivable station.
Storing Stations Manually
Select a memory bank, set the desired station, press the [Store Button]. Select a memory location button to save the station.
Storing Stations Automatically (Travelstore)
Automatically searches and stores the 6 strongest FM stations in the selected memory bank (FM1, FM2, or FM3). In the radio menu, press [Travelstore Button].
Scanning Stations
Press the [Scan Button] in radio mode to play receivable stations for a few seconds. Pressing the [Scan Button] again selects the current station.
Switching RDS On/Off
In the radio menu, press the [RDS Button] in the options menu to toggle RDS (Radio Data System) on/off.
Switching RDS Time Signal On/Off
In the radio menu, press the [RDS Clock Time Button] in the options menu to synchronize the time via RDS.
Optimising Radio Reception
Use the HICUT function in the radio menu options to improve reception in poor signal areas.
Switching REG Function (Regional Programmes) On/Off
Press the [REG Button] in the radio menu to switch regional program selection on/off.
Switching AF Function (Alternative Frequencies) On/Off
Press the [AF Button] in the radio menu to automatically tune to the best receivable frequency for the current station.
Adjusting Seek Tuning Sensitivity
Press the [Loc Button] in the radio menu to adjust sensitivity for strong or weaker stations.
Traffic Information
The system can announce traffic reports via RDS. Traffic announcements can be automatically switched through if priority is on.
Switching Priority for Traffic Announcements On/Off
Press the [TA Button] in the radio menu to activate/deactivate traffic announcement priority.
Setting Minimum Volume for Traffic Announcements
In the radio menu, press the [TA VOL Button] in the options menu and adjust the volume using the [Left Arrow] or [Right Arrow] buttons.
Navigation
Loading Navigation Data
Navigation software and map data are on a MicroSD card. Ensure the card is inserted into the slot [8].
Download of Map Data
Download the latest map data free of charge within 30 days of first GPS positioning from www.naviextras.com. Map material can also be purchased later.
Important Note: Loss or damage to the MicroSD card results in loss of the navigation map license.
Starting the Navigation
Press the NAVI button [3], the SRC button [4] until Navigation is selected, or the Navigation button in the main menu.
Initial Startup
A setup wizard guides through basic settings: language, license agreement, voice selection, time format, and units. Route settings can be adjusted.
Entering a Destination
Destinations can be entered by address or point of interest (sights, museums, petrol stations, etc.).
Address Entry
Open navigation menu, press [Find], then [Find Address]. Enter country, city, street, and optionally intersection or house number using the on-screen keyboard. Press [Confirm Button] when the destination appears.
Points of Interest (POI)
Open navigation menu, press [Find], then [Find Places]. Select a category (e.g., Petrol Station) or perform a custom search. A list of nearby POIs is displayed, sorted by distance. Select a POI to view its map location.
Route Guidance
After selecting a destination, press [Next] to start route calculation. Once calculated, route parameters (distance, time) and the route are displayed. Press [Go!] to start route guidance.
Setting Route Options
Define vehicle type, route type (quick, short, dynamic), and other parameters. These can be adjusted before or during route guidance via the [More...] or [Settings] menus.
Map Settings
Adjust map view (2D/3D), viewpoint, colours, and display of buildings/points of interest. Access via [More...] then [Settings] then [Map Settings].
Media Playback
Basic Information
The Philadelphia 835 supports audio/video playback from DVD, CD, USB, SDHC, and iPod/iPhone. Playback of movies/images on the integrated monitor requires the vehicle to be stationary and the handbrake applied (BRAKE cable connected).
Data Carrier Notes
- Use CDs/DVDs with the official logos.
- Blaupunkt is not responsible for copy-protected media or unsupported blanks.
- File Naming: Max. 32 characters (without extension), no umlauts/special characters.
- Formats: DVD/CD-R/RW, ISO 9669 Level 1/2, FAT32 for USB/SDHC.
- Audio Files: MP3, WMA (without DRM).
- MP3 ID3 Tags: Version 1 and 2.
- Bit Rates: MP3 (32-320 kbps), WMA (32-192 kbps).
- Max Entries: Up to 1500 files/directories per medium.
DVD/CD Mode
Inserting a DVD/CD
Risk of severe damage: Do not use non-circular or 8cm discs. Insert the disc with the printed side up into tray [15]. The device will automatically draw it in.
Ejecting a DVD/CD
Press the [Eject Button] [14].
USB Data Carrier
Two USB ports: USB1 on the front, USB2 via a rear cable. Connect a USB device to socket [12] (under cover [9]). The device switches to USB mode automatically.
SDHC Cards
Features an SDHC card slot under the front cover [9]. Insert card into slot [11] with the labelled side to the left. Device switches to SDHC mode.
iPod/iPhone via USB
Connect compatible iPod/iPhone models using a suitable adapter cable to the USB port [12]. Audio playback is controlled via the car system.
DVD Movie Playback
Insert DVD/VCD. Playback starts automatically. Navigate the DVD menu on the touchscreen. The playback menu is hidden during playback; touch the screen to display it.
Playback controls include chapter selection, play/pause, fast search, language/subtitle selection, and repeat functions.
Audio Playback (DVD/CD/USB/SDHC/iPod/iPhone)
Principles are identical for all sources. Select source via main menu or SRC button [4]. If starting with image/video, press [Audio Button] to switch to audio playback. Navigate folders and select tracks. Controls include play/pause, track selection, repeat, and MIX (random play).
Video Playback (DVD/CD/USB/SDHC)
Select source. If starting with audio/image, press [Video Button] to switch to video. Navigate movie folders. Playback controls include chapter selection, play/pause, fast search, language/subtitle selection, and repeat functions.
Image Playback (DVD/CD/USB/SDHC)
Select source. If starting with audio/video, press [Image Button] to switch to image playback. Navigate image folders.
Bluetooth Mode
The Bluetooth function allows registering cell phones and media devices for hands-free calling and audio streaming.
Starting Bluetooth Mode
Press the PHONE button [2], the SRC button [4] until Bluetooth is selected, or the Bluetooth button in the main menu.
Registering Bluetooth Devices
Ensure Bluetooth is active on both devices. In Bluetooth options, set a pairing code. Search for devices on your phone; "Philadelphia" will appear. Establish connection, entering the pairing code if prompted.
Telephone Mode - Bluetooth
Once a phone is registered, access missed calls, received calls, dialled calls, and the mobile phone book. Answer or reject calls. Manage multiple calls by switching between them.
Audio Playback - Bluetooth
Connect an audio streaming device. In the Bluetooth menu, press the [Music Button] to switch to audio playback. Controls include track selection, play/pause, and fast search.
Bluetooth Settings
Access settings via the Bluetooth menu [Options Button]. Options include Bluetooth On/Off, Auto Connect, Auto Answer, Microphone selection, Pairing Code, and Phone Book Sync.
Rear Seat Entertainment & External Sources
Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE)
The Philadelphia 835 supports connection to two external monitors for rear passengers. This allows viewing images and movies on external monitors even while driving. Audio output is via rear sockets.
Starting RSE: Select a source and start playback on the main unit. Then, select the same source in the RSE main menu. To deactivate, go to the RSE main menu and press [Rear Off Button].
External Audio/Video Sources
Features two external AV inputs: AV-IN 1 (front) and AV-IN 2 (rear). Start AV-IN mode via the main menu or SRC button [4]. The display shows the selected AV source.
Danger: Protruding connectors in the front AV-IN socket can cause injury in an accident.
Sound and Basic Settings
Sound Settings
Volume Distribution (Fader/Balance)
Adjust volume distribution for all sources. Access via the [Equalizer Button] then the [Fader/Balance Button]. Adjust using [Left Arrow]/[Right Arrow] or [Up Arrow]/[Down Arrow] buttons.
Equalizer
Adjust equalizer settings for all sources. Access via the [Equalizer Button]. Select presets or manually adjust Bass, Mid, Treble, and filter frequencies (LPF, MPF, HPF).
Basic Settings
Access basic settings via the SETUP button [7] or the Settings button in the main menu.
Video Settings
- Aspect Ratio: Adjust image format.
- Video Input: Adjust colour system for external video.
- Rear View Camera: Adjust back-up camera settings.
- Parking: Activates parking mode display.
- Backcar Mode: Select parking aid display (radar or camera).
General Settings
- Radio Region: Select reception region.
- Background Light Off: Switches display off after inactivity.
- Dimmer Mode: Adjust display brightness.
