Diagram Description
The diagram visually represents the Tow-Trust TH255 towbar assembly for the Honda Accord Saloon (2003-2008). It shows the main crossmember (A) that spans the rear of the vehicle, with side arms (B and C) attaching to it. Boot brackets (D and E) are also shown, designed to mount to the vehicle's chassis. An extension bar (A1) connects to the main crossmember. Various fasteners, including bolts (K, L, M, N, P, R), nuts (S), and flat washers (T, V, W), are depicted along with specific spacer bushes (H, J) and clamp plates (G). The diagram illustrates the general placement and connection points of these components to the vehicle's rear structure. Note that part F (Spacers) is specifically indicated for 2.4ltr Twin Exhaust Models.
Installation Instructions
- Remove the rear bumper: detach 2 push-in clips along the lower edge, 3 fasteners around each wheel arch, and 1 fastener under the plastic cap below each light cluster.
- Temporarily remove the inner trim from both sides of the boot to expose the dimples in the boot floor.
- Remove the bumper cross beam (this is no longer required).
- Using Item P with Item T and Item L with Item V, loosely bolt Item A (Crossmember) to the rear panel.
- Using the cut out in Item A as a jig, drill an 11mm diameter hole through the rear panel for bolt Item R.
- Locate the dimples in the boot floor approximately 80mm forward of the rear panel and drill 20mm holes down through the top face of the chassis only.
- Locate Item H (19 x 69 Spacer Bushes) down into each chassis and insert Item J (19 x 33 Spacer Bushes) through the rear panel.
- Using Item M with Item V and Item R with Item V, loosely bolt Item D (L/H Boot Bracket) and Item E (R/H Boot Bracket) into place. (Insert bolts from inside the boot to allow trim to be refitted).
- Locate Item G (Clamp Plates with Captive Bolt) into large holes and down through existing holes, and bolt Item B (L/H Side Arm) and Item C (R/H Side Arm) into place using Item S (M10 Nuts) and Item V (10 x 25 Flat Washers).
ℹ️ Note: On 2.4ltr models with twin exhaust, Item F (Spacers) are located between the side arms (Item B and Item C) and the rear panel; this allows clearance for exhaust mountings. - Using Item N (M12 x 85 Grade 10.9 Bolts & Nyloc Nuts) with Item W (12 x 25 Flat Washers), bolt Item A1 (Extension Bar) to Item A (Crossmember).
- Fully tighten all nuts and bolts and ensure the towbar is rigid and secure.
- Cut a small section centrally from the lower edge of the bumper, 70mm wide x 70mm deep.
- Replace the rear bumper and boot trim.
- Using Item K (M16 x 50 Bolts, Nuts & S/P Washers), bolt the ball bracket (not supplied in this kit) to the mounting plate.
Notes
- Recommended Torque Setting for M12 Grade 10.9: 139 Nm. (For other Torque Settings, see notes overleaf.)
- Nose load limits and vehicle manufacturers' trailer/caravan weight limits must be observed.
