ATOLL MS120 Streamer Owner's Manual

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the ATOLL MS120 Streamer, covering general information, connections, remote control operation, setup, usage, streaming services, troubleshooting, and warranty details for this high-performance audio device.

General Information & Setup

1. General Information

Your ATOLL Streamer is DLNA and UPnP compatible, allowing it to operate within a network of other devices. It is recommended to read the "Getting Started" section (page 7) before powering on the unit. The display shows the selected radio station logo and provides information about network files and USB sockets, as well as the volume level (0-100).

For optimal use, download the ATOLL Signature app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

Accepted Formats

(*) The MS120 includes an MQA Core Decoder, which unfolds MQA files once to deliver better than CD-quality audio. The first unfold recovers all direct music-related information, outputting at 88.2kHz or 96kHz. 'MQA' or 'MQA Studio' indicates decoding and playback of an MQA stream or file, ensuring sound identical to the source. 'MQA Studio' signifies playback of an MQA Studio file approved in the studio by the artist/producer or verified by the copyright owner. MQA and the Sound Wave Device are registered trademarks of MQA Limited © 2016.

Connecting Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® Antennas

The antennas are included with the remote control. Ensure they are correctly installed before connection and use. Use the supplied antennas or any antenna with a male connector.

Connecting Setup

4. Connecting Setup

The MS120 can function as a source (like a CD player) or as a preamplifier to control volume. The diagrams illustrate wiring possibilities:

Source Mode vs. Preamplifier (BY-PASS)

Integrated Amplifier Connection Example: The device can switch on any line input of an integrated amplifier.

Power Amplifier Connection Example:

Trigger Link

The appliance features a Trigger output to switch compatible amplifiers (e.g., ATOLL AM200SE) ON/OFF. Link appliances as shown in the diagram. Ensure the power amplifier's ON/OFF switch is in the OFF (0) position for the trigger function to work. If it's ON (1), the amplifier will operate but not via the trigger. A stereo male-to-male 3.5mm jack plug is required for the trigger cable. The amplifier will turn on/off automatically with the Streamer's standby state.

Uses & Configuration

5. Preamp / BY-PASS Functions

Volume

Volume is controlled via front panel buttons (21) or the remote. The level is displayed briefly and remains visible at the top of the display. The last set volume is recalled on startup. Volume at zero mutes the device by switching the output relay.

Sources

The appliance offers 6 inputs (excluding USB, Media Server, Bluetooth®): Line 1/2, Coaxial 1/2, Optical 1/2. These can be renamed using the ATOLL Signature application (Settings/Rename local inputs). The selected source is indicated by an asterisk (*).

Connection (BY-PASS)

The BY-PASS function is available only for Analog inputs 1 and 2, allowing connection to a home cinema system. In BY-PASS mode, volume control is inoperative. To activate, select Analog input 1 or 2 and hold the BY-PASS button (39) on the remote for 3 seconds (BY-PASS LED (●) will illuminate). This setting is memorized even after power off. To deactivate, press the BY-PASS button for 3 seconds.

6. Uses

Getting Started

Before powering on, connect the network cable (RJ45) to input (11). A wired connection is highly recommended for optimal performance over Wi-Fi.

Wait for the startup screen before proceeding. Use the navigation buttons (17) on the remote or front panel to select menus. On initial connection or network changes, verify network settings. Incorrect settings may prevent functions like internet radios or server playback.

Available Menus:

Connecting an RJ45 cable automatically establishes the network link. A steady indicator light confirms correct configuration.

Network Configuration

  1. Navigate to "Settings" > "Network connection".
  2. Select "Network Wizard".
  3. Choose the network type: "Automatic", "Wired", "Wireless", or "Hybrid".

Wi-Fi Connection Advice: Use the WPS button on your router and the remote control (30) for a quick connection. Alternatively, use the "scan" function to find and select your network, then enter the Wi-Fi key. Ensure you select the correct network in environments with multiple options. Enter the Wi-Fi security key in CAPITAL LETTERS without spaces.

Alternative Connection (ATOLL Signature App):

  1. Download the ATOLL Signature app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Turn on your network player.
  3. On your smartphone, go to "Settings" and connect to the "Softap" Wi-Fi network (appears a few minutes after player startup).
  4. Launch the ATOLL Signature application.
  5. In the app, navigate to Settings / Network configuration / Wireless configuration / Scan, select your internet box, and enter the Wi-Fi password.
  6. Reconnect your smartphone to your internet box's Wi-Fi network.

A symbol ? indicates that the wireless link is established or Softap is available.
