What is Covered
- Sharpness of knives and kitchen knives. They are supplied sharp and will maintain their sharpness with proper care, ensuring they can be used without issues for daily cooking. The blades are made of hard steel, and sharpening can restore them to like-new condition within the warranty period.
- Durability of handles (including wooden handles). This covers cases where handles develop cracks, splits, or loosen, affecting usability.
- Corrosion resistance (blades will not rust).
Products Not Covered by this Quality Guarantee
The following products are excluded from this guarantee: FÖRDUBBLA/Foldubla, HACKIG/Hakkig, UPPFYLLD/Uppfylld, SKALAD/Skalad, SMÅBIT/Smabit series knives and kitchen knives, cutlery knives, steak knives, and sharpeners.
What is Not Covered by this Quality Guarantee

The guarantee is void if damage or defects are caused by improper storage, improper use, excessive load beyond normal limits, misuse, use for purposes other than intended, modifications, incorrect cleaning methods, or the use of inappropriate detergents. It does not cover normal wear and tear, scratches, dents, or damage from impacts or accidents. The guarantee is also invalid if the product is stored or used in humid environments such as outdoors or in bathrooms. Indirect or consequential damages are not covered.
For customers in the USA: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusions or limitations may not apply to you.
Care Instructions and Usage Tips
Before First Use
Wash and dry this product thoroughly before using it for the first time.
Washing
- Hand washing is recommended for knives and kitchen knives. While dishwashers rarely render them unusable, they can damage the blade edge or cause rust.
- Wash and dry immediately after use. This helps prevent the transfer of bacteria from raw meat to vegetables, for example.
- Dry knives and kitchen knives immediately after washing to prevent water spots on the blades.
Sharpening
Knives and kitchen knives are safer to use when sharp. Sharpen them regularly. IKEA knives and kitchen knives feature easy-to-sharpen stainless steel blades. For typical household use, sharpening once a week is recommended.
Always use a sharpening tool made of a material harder than the blade's steel. This includes ceramic sharpeners, diamond sharpeners, or whetstones. Do not use stainless steel sharpeners.
If a blade's sharpness deteriorates due to long-term use or improper care, professional sharpening may be required.
Storage and Usage
- Do not use for frozen foods or bones, as this can bend or chip the blade. When cutting hard foods, use a sawing motion (forward and backward), not a side-to-side motion.
- Always use a cutting board made of wood or plastic. Never use glass, metal, or ceramic surfaces.
- Store knives and kitchen knives in a knife block or on a magnetic wall strip. Proper storage protects the blades and ensures a longer lifespan.
Care for Wooden Handles
For knives and kitchen knives with wooden handles, apply a food-safe oil to the handle to protect the wood and enhance its natural moisture resistance. After applying the oil, wipe off any excess. Reapply oil after 24 hours, repeating the process if necessary.
Avoid soaking or leaving wooden handles wet for extended periods.
