1.0 General Warnings and Information

WARNING TO PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS: Proper use is required. It is very IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE BOOSTER SEAT AND VEHICLE OWNER'S MANUALS. Failure to follow these instructions can result in a child striking the vehicle's interior during a sudden stop or crash. Your child's safety depends on proper installation and use. Improper use can result in serious injury or death. Always read and understand this entire manual and your vehicle's owner's manual before using this Booster Seat. Do not allow others to install or use this Booster Seat unless they completely understand its proper installation and use.

Key steps for safe use include:

  1. Choosing the best location within your vehicle for installing the Booster Seat. Seating positions with frontal Air Bags must be avoided if possible.
  2. Proper installation, including correct routing and adjustment of the vehicle lap/shoulder belt on your child.

NOTE: Not all vehicle seat belts or vehicle seats can be used with this Booster Seat. Proper belt adjustment is crucial: the belt must be positioned correctly on the child and snugly adjusted.

While no Booster Seat can guarantee protection in every situation, proper use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death.

    • Use only with children 4 years old and weighing at least 40 lbs (18 kg).
    • Snugly adjust the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt around the child.
    • Properly position the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt: lap belt low on hips contacting thighs, shoulder belt centered on shoulder.

    • Use only parts provided by Baby Trend, Inc. Use of other parts may affect performance and safety.
    • DO NOT leave your child unattended.
    • DO NOT place the Booster Seat in a vehicle front seat location unless specifically recommended by the vehicle owner's manual.
    • This Booster Seat is designed for a specific weight and height range. Using it outside these limits increases the risk of death or serious injury in a crash. Refer to Section 5.0 for limits.
    • Not all vehicle seat belts or seating locations are compatible. Consult your vehicle owner's manual and the "Vehicle Seat Belts" section of this manual.
  • Vehicle Compatibility: Some vehicles may not have safe locations or adequate seat belt systems for this Booster Seat. Always refer to both this manual and your vehicle owner's manual for proper installation information. Contact your vehicle dealer or manufacturer if your manual does not address child restraints.

4.0 Preparing Car Seat for Use

Follow these steps for preparing the Booster Seat:

4.1 Check Child's Weight and Height

Ensure your child's weight is between 40-100 lbs (18-45 kg) and meets all other requirements in the "Weight and Height Recommendations" section.

4.2 Assemble Shoulder Belt Positioner Assembly

Refer to the "Assembly of Vehicle Shoulder Belt Positioner" section.

4.3 Select a Vehicle Seating Location

Choose a location with a lap/shoulder belt. ❌ DO NOT use a location with only a lap belt.

General Considerations:

  • Consult your vehicle owner's manual for the best location and any specific installation instructions or unsafe locations.
  • Rear seating positions are generally safer. The rear center position may only have a lap belt and might not be usable.
  • Use a front seating location only if allowed by your vehicle's owner's manual and follow all instructions.
  • If unsure about the location, contact your vehicle manufacturer or dealer.

4.4 Seating Locations to Avoid

  • DO NOT use in a seating location with an Active Frontal Air Bag unless recommended by the vehicle owner's manual.
  • DO NOT use in any seat that faces to the rear of the vehicle.
  • DO NOT use in any seat that faces to the side of the vehicle.
  • DO NOT use in a seating location where the seat back does not lock in position. A seat back that folds forward must lock securely.

5.0 Weight and Height Recommendations

WARNING: FAILURE TO USE THIS BOOSTER SEAT WITH A CHILD OF APPROPRIATE AGE AND SIZE MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

5.1 Booster Seat Use Requirements

Child MUST meet all of the following requirements:

  • Weight: Between 40 and 100 lbs (18 and 45 kg).
  • Height: Between 42 and 57 inches (107 and 145 cm).
  • Top of child's ears must be below the top of the vehicle seat back or vehicle headrest.
  • Age: At least 4 years old.

Baby Trend and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend using a Booster Seat until the child reaches a standing height of 57 inches (145 cm) before transitioning to using only a vehicle seat belt.

⚠️ WARNING: TO AVOID INJURIES FROM WHIPLASH, TOP OF CHILD'S EARS MUST BE BELOW TOP EDGE OF VEHICLE SEAT BACK OR VEHICLE HEADREST.

6.0 Installation and Use

7.1 Booster Seat Installation and Use

⚠️ WARNING: If the child will not keep the shoulder belt properly positioned, DO NOT use this Booster Seat; use a different restraint system. Do not allow the child to slide down, which could misposition the lap belt or shoulder belt. Discontinue use when the child's ears are above the vehicle seat back or headrest. Securely belt the Booster Seat in the vehicle, even when unoccupied, as an unsecured seat can injure occupants in a crash.

  1. Place the Booster Seat on the vehicle seat in a location equipped with a vehicle Lap/Shoulder belt, centered between the anchorages.
  2. If the vehicle seat back is adjustable, adjust it to the upright position or as specified in the vehicle owner's manual.
  3. Place the child in the Booster Seat with their back and rump contacting the seating surfaces.
  4. Pull the vehicle lap/shoulder belt across the front of the child and buckle it. The shoulder belt on the buckle side must be under the armrest.
  5. Snugly adjust the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt around your child per the vehicle owner's manual.
  6. Place the vehicle shoulder belt in the Vehicle Shoulder Belt Positioner and adjust the positioner to guide the belt onto the child's shoulder. Thread the strap through the Shoulder Belt Guide. Pull the strap to tighten the clip and position the belt correctly.
  7. Check the fit of the vehicle seat belts on the child:
    • Vehicle seat belt must be snugly adjusted.
    • Vehicle lap belt must be low on hips, contacting thighs.
    • Vehicle shoulder belt must contact the chest and be centered on the shoulder. Use the positioner to adjust.
    • DO NOT place vehicle shoulder belt under the child's arm or behind the child.

To remove your child:

  1. Unbuckle the vehicle seat belt and remove your child.

Proper Use Checklist:

  • ✔️ Child is at least 4 years old and 40 lbs (18kg).
  • ✔️ Lap and shoulder belts are snugly adjusted around child.
  • ✔️ Lap belt is low and flat on hips and contacting thighs.
  • ✔️ Shoulder belt is centered on shoulder.
  • ✔️ Child is sitting up, not slouching down under vehicle lap belt.
  • ✔️ Shoulder belt is not under arm or behind back of child.
  • ✔️ Top of child's ears are below top of vehicle seat back or vehicle headrest.

7.0 Vehicle Seat Belts

⚠️ WARNING: Carefully analyze vehicle seat belt operation and read this section and your vehicle owner's manual. Your vehicle may require modification or a special seat belt. Consult your vehicle dealer.

7.1 Safe Seat Belt Systems

The following systems are suitable for use with the Booster Seat, provided all other instructions are followed:

  • Combination lap/shoulder belt with locking latch plate: A belt that locks the lap belt into position once fastened.
  • Combination lap/shoulder belt with sliding latch plate: A belt with a latch plate that slides freely along the belt.

7.2 Unsafe Seat Belt Systems

DO NOT use the following systems, as they will not hold the Booster Seat securely. A locking clip will not make them safe.

  • Lap Belts (manually Adjusted): While some manually adjusted lap belts that stay tight are suitable, this category is listed as unsafe. Always use a lap/shoulder belt.
  • Lap Belts with Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR): These belts may appear to stay tight but are not suitable for securing the booster seat.
  • Lap Belt With Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR): Belts that stay loose or lock only in a crash are unsafe. They allow the booster seat to move. Consult your dealer about converting these systems.
  • Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt With Retractor: If both the lap belt and shoulder belt have retractors at one end, this system is unsafe.
  • Passive Restraint - Lap or Shoulder Belt Mounted on Door: Belts connected to the vehicle door are unsafe as they are designed to surround the occupant automatically and will not adequately restrain the Booster Seat.
  • Lap Belts Located Forward of Seat Crease: Belts anchored more than 2 inches forward of the seat crease are unsafe as they position the Booster Seat too far forward.
  • Passive Restraint - Lap Belt with Motorized Shoulder Belt: Shoulder belts that move along a track are unsafe.

If you have any of these unsafe systems, look for a suitable system in your vehicle or contact your vehicle manufacturer.

8.0 Operation and Adjustments

8.1 Use and Adjustment of Shoulder Belt Positioner

Use the built-in Adjustment Buckle and Belt Guide Clip to center the vehicle shoulder belt on the child's shoulder. The shoulder belt MUST be centered.

  • Insert the vehicle shoulder belt into both sides of the Shoulder Belt Guide.
  • Pull the free end of the strap to tighten the clip against the child's shoulder and bring the shoulder belt into the proper position.

Using the Built-in Adjustment Buckle:

  • To move the Positioner up to the center of the child's shoulder: Pull the strap out from the buckle, hold the strap using the Anchored point on the Booster Seat, and slide the Positioner to the correct strap length. (See Fig 25-1)
  • To move the Positioner down to the center of the child's shoulder: Pull the strap out from the buckle, pull the Excess strap, and slide the positioner down to shorten the length. (See Fig 25-2)
