General Warnings and Information
⚠ WARNING: SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH can occur if instructions are not followed.
- Failure to follow instructions and Booster Seat labels can result in injury or death to a child from striking the vehicle's interior during a sudden stop or crash. Always read this manual and your vehicle's owner's manual.
- Improper use of the automobile seat belt or incorrect adjustment can lead to serious injury or death.
- Do NOT allow others (e.g., babysitters, friends, grandparents) to use this Booster Seat unless they have read and understood all instructions and labels.
- Only use accessories manufactured by Baby Trend. Untested modifications or attachments (toys, padding) can compromise safety.
- Secure this Booster Seat with the vehicle seat belt at all times, even when unoccupied, as an unsecured child restraint can injure someone in a crash.
- Direct sunlight can make Booster Seat surfaces hot enough to burn a child. Always check the temperature on hot, sunny days.
- NEVER leave a child unattended in the Booster Seat.
- Do NOT use this Booster Seat if it has been in a crash, is damaged, or has missing parts. It must be replaced.
- Discontinue use of this booster seat after 9 years from the date of manufacture printed on the label on the bottom of the seat.
- Secure this child restraint with a vehicle lap and shoulder belt.
- Baby Trend recommends using a car seat with a built-in harness for as long as possible before transitioning to a booster car seat.
- AVOID INJURY! Do NOT place pencils or other sharp or pointed objects in the cup holder.
Use Recommendations
Parents are advised that children should use a child restraint with a built-in harness system until they exceed the weight or height limits specified by the manufacturer.

Selecting a Vehicle Seating Location
Proper Use:
⚠ WARNING: DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur:
- Use ONLY the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt system. NEVER use with only a vehicle lap belt.
- Do NOT use with vehicle seat belts mounted to the front door.
- Do NOT use if the Booster Seat cannot be properly installed. Not all child restraints fit all vehicle seating positions.
- NEVER use in any vehicle seating position equipped with an active air bag unless recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Do NOT use in the rear seat of a compact pickup truck.
Proper Installation:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) advises that children under age 13 are safer when properly restrained in rear seating positions.
Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for car seat installation instructions. Always use the Booster Seat in a vehicle rear seat location whenever possible. If a front seat location with an air bag must be used, follow vehicle manufacturer's instructions and move the vehicle seat back as far as possible.
Vehicle Seats to Avoid:
Do NOT use this Booster Seat with:
- Seats facing the SIDES of the vehicle.
- Seats facing the REAR of the vehicle.
- Rear seats of small extended cab pickup trucks.
Vehicle Seat Belt Systems to Avoid:
Do NOT use this Booster Seat with the following vehicle seat belts:
- Lap belt only systems.
- Passive restraints with motorized shoulder belts.
- Passive restraints with lap or shoulder belts mounted on the front door.
⚠ WARNING: Secure this Booster Seat with the vehicle seat belt at all times (even when there is no child in it). An unsecured child restraint can injure someone if a crash occurs.
Installation and Use
⚠ WARNING: DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur:
- Use only a vehicle lap and shoulder belt system. NEVER use just a lap belt. Always use a combination lap and shoulder belt. (Illustrations show correct use with lap and shoulder belt, and incorrect use with lap belt only).
- Snugly adjust the vehicle lap and shoulder belt around your child according to the vehicle owner's manual.
- NEVER place the Booster Seat in a seating position with an active air bag unless recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Do NOT allow the child to slide down in the Booster Seat. This could position the vehicle lap belt across the child's abdomen and the shoulder belt over the child's neck or face.
PROtect SLIM Booster Seat Fit Guide:
Read all sections of this instruction booklet before use.
- Shoulder Belt Centered on Shoulder.
- Belt Guide Shoulder Height.
- Lap Belt Under Both Armrests.
- Shoulder Belt Nearest Auto Buckle Under Armrest.
To secure the car seat and your child:
- The Shoulder Belt Positioner is affixed to the PROtect SLIM Backless Booster and stored under the soft goods. Locate it.
- Place the car seat on the vehicle seat in a location equipped with a Lap/Shoulder Belt and centered between the anchorages.
- If the vehicle seat back is adjustable, adjust it to the upright position or as specified in the vehicle owner's manual.
- Place the child in the Backless Booster Car Seat with their back and rump contacting the seating surfaces.
- Place the lap and shoulder belt across the front of the child and buckle the seat belt. The shoulder belt should go over the child's chest and into the lap belt guide closest to the auto buckle. (Note: Armrests may be raised for easier entry, but must be lowered once the child is seated).
- Place the vehicle shoulder belt in the Vehicle Shoulder Belt Positioner and adjust it to position the shoulder belt on the child. Thread the vehicle shoulder belt through the Vehicle Shoulder Strap Positioner. Pull the webbing adjuster up or down until the vehicle shoulder belt is centered over the child's shoulder.
Check the fit of the vehicle seat belts on the child:
- The vehicle lap belt must be low on the hips, contacting the thighs.
- The vehicle shoulder belt must contact the chest and be centered on the shoulder. Use the Shoulder Belt Positioner to adjust its position.
- Do NOT place the vehicle shoulder belt under the child's arm or behind the child.
⚠ WARNING: Discontinue use of the Backless Booster when the top of the child's ears are above the top edge of the vehicle headrest and vehicle seat back.
To remove your child:
Unbuckle the vehicle seat belt and remove your child.
Cup Holder Safety
⚠ WARNING: AVOID INJURY! Do NOT place pencils or other sharp or pointed objects in the cup holder.
Use and Adjustment of Vehicle Shoulder Belt Positioner
Use the Shoulder Belt Guide only if necessary to center the vehicle Shoulder Belt on the child's shoulder. The Shoulder Belt should be centered on the child's shoulder.
- Insert the vehicle shoulder belt into both sides of the Shoulder Belt Guide.
- Pull the free end of the Shoulder Belt Guide strap down to bring the shoulder belt into the proper centered shoulder position.
- Do NOT overtighten the Shoulder Belt Guide, as this can force the Shoulder Belt into an unnatural transition over the child's shoulder. The Shoulder Belt should have a smooth transition over the shoulder.

- If someone unbuckles, the vehicle STOPS! Consistency helps children learn discipline. An unrestrained person can injure other passengers in a crash.
- NEVER try to tend to a crying child's needs while driving. Never take a child out of a child restraint for comforting while the vehicle is moving.
- Do NOT allow a child to slide down under the lap belt or put the shoulder belt under their arm or behind their back.
- Do NOT allow a child to have lollipops, popsicles, or other food on a stick, as these items can injure the child in a sudden stop or crash.
- Put heavy or sharp items in the trunk. Loose items can be deadly in a crash.
- If a blanket is needed in cold weather, place the child in the restraint and cover both with the blanket.
