INSTEON® Wireless Thermostat Owner Manual (#2441ZTH)

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat, model 2441ZTH.

About INSTEON Wireless Thermostat

The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat is a wireless, battery-operated, one-day programmable, INSTEON-compatible thermostat. It includes a humidity sensor and communicates wirelessly via radio frequency (RF) to other INSTEON devices. It is not directly wired to the HVAC system; instead, it communicates with an INSTEON Thermostat that is connected to the HVAC system. It can also function as a standalone INSTEON controller for other devices like heaters and fans, activated by room temperature status. Additional INSTEON Wireless Thermostats can be added to create extra temperature zones.

  • From Cool Mode: Applies a cool setback, typically 4° higher than the current setting.
  • From Auto Mode: Adjusts both Heat and Cool setpoints, typically 4° more for Cooling and 4° less for Heating. The display may show "Heating" or "Cooling" when active.

Note: On-screen text displaying “Heat” changes to “Heating” and “Cool” changes to “Cooling” to indicate the HVAC system is active.

Set Button Operation

The Set button is used to add or remove the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat from INSTEON scenes, functioning similarly to the Set button on other INSTEON devices.

Time/Sensor Button Operations

The Time/Sensor button allows setting the time and clock format (12/24-hour). It cycles through hour, minute, and format settings. Up/Down arrows adjust values. Pressing the button again moves to the next setting. Setup exits after 4 minutes of inactivity or by pressing the Mode button. If the thermostat is added to a scene with an INSTEON Thermostat, it retrieves time settings automatically.

Note: Blinking elements indicate the setting being adjusted.

  • First press: Adjusts hours (1-hour increments).
  • Second press: Adjusts minutes (1-minute increments).
  • Third press: Selects clock format (12- or 24-hour). AM/PM is not displayed in 24-hour format.

IMPORTANT: When added as a wireless temperature zone to an INSTEON Thermostat, the Time/Sensor button primarily adjusts time format, with time information provided by the INSTEON Thermostat.

Program Button Operation

The Program button configures pre-programmed modes (Wake, Leave, Return, Sleep). Pressing Program again moves to the next step. Setup exits after 4 minutes of inactivity or by pressing the Mode button.

IMPORTANT: When added as a wireless temperature zone to an INSTEON Thermostat, the Program button is disabled; all programming is done on the INSTEON Thermostat.

Return5:00PMAuto6575
Sleep11:00PMAuto6080

Note: To exit program setup mode, press the Mode button once.

Fan and Hold Button Operations

  • Fan Button: Cycles between Auto and Always On fan modes. The display shows "Fan Always" when selected.
  • Hold Button: Overrides a pre-programmed mode until Hold is turned off. While Hold is active, preprogrammed time notations (Wake, Leave, Return, Sleep) are not shown, and the next scheduled time change is ignored. Hold can be remotely controlled by an INSTEON controller.

Master Button Operation

Pressing and holding the Master button for 3 seconds designates the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat as the master temperature controller when linked to an INSTEON Thermostat. The device will beep once upon successful activation. Before pressing, a remote sensor may be the master; after pressing, the local INSTEON Wireless Thermostat becomes the master. This function is only valid if linked to an INSTEON Thermostat and requires an INSTEON scene to be programmed.

Installation

CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

Read and understand these instructions before installing and retain them for future reference.

Tools Needed

  • INSTEON Wireless Thermostat is primarily used as a tabletop thermostat.
  • Wall-mounting is possible using the slotted holes in the back cover (screws and anchors not provided).

Adding INSTEON Wireless Thermostat

The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat can be added to an INSTEON Thermostat to provide portable temperature control. Up to 2 INSTEON Wireless Thermostats can be added to a single INSTEON Thermostat.

INSTEON Programming

Add INSTEON Wireless Thermostat as a Controller

The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat can be configured to control other INSTEON devices or trigger events based on changes. It can be configured as a controller for:

  • Group 1: Cooling mode change (scene control)
  • Group 2: Heating mode change (scene control)
  • Group 3: Dehumidification, high humidity setpoint (scene control)
  • Group 4: Humidification, low humidity setpoint (scene control)
  • Group FE: Broadcast on any change (notification for software controllers)

When added as a controller to an INSTEON Thermostat, setpoints are matched. Otherwise, setpoints are local. Humidity levels are taken from the local device only.

  1. Press and hold the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat Set button until it beeps.
  2. Tap Up or Down arrows to select Groups 1-4 to add to a scene.
  3. Adjust the scene responder (e.g., a humidifier) to the desired state.
  4. Press and hold the responder's Set button until it double-beeps or its LED flashes. The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat will double-beep upon completion.
  5. Confirm scene addition by adjusting the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat setpoint; the responder should toggle between its scene states.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each additional responder.

Upon entering Scene mode, the display shows the scene number for approximately 2 seconds.

Remove INSTEON Wireless Thermostat as a Controller

To remove the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat from a scene as a controller, follow these instructions. It is recommended to use software for managing scene memberships. Ensure scene memberships are removed from all responders.

  1. Press and hold the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat Set button until it beeps (Set LED blinks green).
  2. Press and hold the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat Set button again to enter scene mode (Set LED blinks red).
  3. Tap Up and Down arrows to select the group from which you are removing the scene (Group 1-4).
  4. Press and hold the responder's Set button. The INSTEON Wireless Thermostat will double-beep upon completion, and the LED will turn off.

The display indicates the group being removed from the scene.

User Setup Mode Overview

IMPORTANT: When the INSTEON Wireless Thermostat is added as a wireless temperature zone to an INSTEON Thermostat, the Program and Time/Sensor buttons lose their primary functions.
