Intesis Integration Guide

with Vera Smart Home Controllers

Introduction

The Intesis adapter is an IoT solution designed for Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps, facilitating home and building management. Intesis provides multi-site, multi-user, and multi-brand real-time control and monitoring of HVAC installations. It enables the integration of existing HVAC systems with Building Management Systems (e.g., KNX, Modbus, DALI) and popular Smart Home Automation systems such as Vera or Control4.

Intesis adapters integrate with a wide range of HVAC brands and models, including Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, Panasonic, and Toshiba.

Intesis Brand Specific AC Controllers connect directly to the HVAC internal electronic card using a supplied specific cable and connector. Integration with Vera and other smart home systems is achieved via IP over WiFi. The Intesis Universal adapter integrates via 2-way IR with the HVAC unit and via IP or WiFi with smart home systems.

The following diagram illustrates the basic concept of integration with a Vera Z-Wave controller:

[Diagram Description]: An AC Unit is connected to an IntesisBox adapter (model IS-IR-WMP-1 or XX-XX-WMP-1). The IntesisBox communicates wirelessly via WiFi over an IP network to a VERA Controller. The VERA Controller then interfaces with a smartphone running the Vera app for control.

This document details the integration steps required to complete this process.

Instructions

Step 1: Connect Intesis Adapter to HVAC System

First, ensure your Intesis adapter is connected to your HVAC system. It is highly recommended to have a qualified HVAC technician perform this installation, as incorrect setup could potentially damage both the Intesis controller and your HVAC system.

For detailed wiring and installation information, please refer to the specific product manual available at: https://www.intesisbox.com/en/wifi/gateways/.

Step 2: Download Intesis Plugin from Vera App Store

Once the Intesis Unit is connected and powered on, download the Intesis Plugin from the Vera App Store.

[Screenshot Description]: The Vera App Store interface is displayed, showing the "Install apps" section. A search bar is available, and the "intesis" plugin is listed as "Intesis WMP Gateway," with a "Details" button.

Step 3: Identify the New Device

After installing the app, a new device will be automatically created on your Vera controller. This device will initially be unassigned to any room and will be named "Intesis WMP Interfac".

[Screenshot Description]: The Vera controller interface shows the "Intesis WMP Interfac" device, with an arrow indicating navigation to access its settings or options.

Step 4: Add Intesis Unit to Vera

You can add your Intesis Unit to Vera using one of three methods:

[Screenshot Description]: The Vera controller interface for adding a device is shown. Fields include "Device name" (pre-filled as "Intesis WMP Interfac"), "Assigned to room" (with a dropdown for room selection), and buttons for "Run Discovery," "Discover MAC," and "Discover IP." Instructions guide users to enter the MAC address found on the device's label if broadcast discovery is unsuccessful.

Step 5: Control Unit Interface

Once the Intesis Unit is added to your controller, it will appear under the unassigned room. From here, you can change the temperature and set the operating mode.

[Screenshot Description]: The control interface for a "Back A/C Unit" is displayed. It shows operating modes such as "Off," "Auto," "Cool," "Heat," "Fan," and "Dry." The current temperature is shown as 25.0 °C, with a target temperature of 24.0 °C, and controls are available to adjust the temperature.

Step 6: Adjust Temperature Setting

By default, the Control Unit should be added with your Vera Unit's default temperature setting, either Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). If the controller loads with an incorrect temperature value, you can easily adjust it to the correct setting.

To do this, access the Advanced Settings for the Control Device. Press the arrow icon on the right side of your device on the UI, scroll down, and select "Advanced." Within the Advanced settings, scroll down to locate the 'device_json' field. You will find one of the following values:

Change the last letter before '.json' to your desired temperature denominator. Ensure it is 'C' for Celsius or 'F' for Fahrenheit.

[Screenshot Description]: A configuration section within the Vera controller is shown, displaying fields such as "category_num" (set to 5), "device_json" (set to "D_IntesisWMPDevice1_C.json"), and "room" (set to 2).

Step 7: Reload Engine

After the small configuration prompt disappears, scroll to the top of the page, select 'New Service' from the top bar, and then press 'Reload Engine'.

[Screenshot Description]: The "New service/variable/value" interface in Vera is presented, featuring tabs for "Params," "Variables," and "Commands." Fields for entering "New service," "New variable," and "New value" are visible, along with "Reload Engine" and "Add" buttons.

Step 8: Refresh and Set Temperature

After approximately 10-15 seconds, refresh your browser. The temperature should now reflect your desired value. If the displayed number appears to be the previous value, simply change your temperature to a reasonable range by pressing on the temperature value and setting it to a more appropriate figure.

[Screenshot Description]: The "Back A/C Unit" control interface is shown again, displaying temperature adjustment controls. The current temperature is 25.0 °C, and the target temperature is 24.5 °C. Operating modes like "Off," "Auto," "Cool," "Heat," "Fan," and "Dry" are accessible.

Step 9: Name and Assign Control Unit

Finally, name your Control Unit within Vera and assign it to your desired room.

Setting up Scene Control

Creating Scenes to control the Intesis Unit is straightforward and functions similarly to using any Z-Wave device for scenes.

Generic Instructions for Intesis Unit in Vera Scene Editor:

Step 1: Select your Scene trigger(s). This can be another Device, a Timer-based Schedule, or manual input for manual or Voice Control interfaces.

Step 2: Define the actions your Intesis unit should perform. This can include multiple actions from various devices, with specified timing.

Step 3: Specify the modes within Vera in which you want this scene to execute its actions (e.g., only when you are at home in HOME mode). Name the scene and assign it to a room.

[Screenshot Description]: The "Step 1: Select a Trigger" interface in Vera is shown, offering options such as "Schedule Trigger" and "Interfaces & Misc Devices." A representation of the "Back A/C Unit" is also visible within this context.
