General Safety Overview
Please read the following safety precautions carefully to avoid injury and prevent damage to this product or any product connected to it.
-
Must be Grounded
This probe is grounded through the shell of the BNC connector and the auxiliary ground terminal, which is achieved through the ground conductor shell of the measuring instrument's power cord. When the test instrument is properly grounded, ensure that the BNC connector at the output end is correctly connected to the measuring instrument and the auxiliary ground terminal is properly grounded before connecting the input of this probe. -
Use Fused Test Probes When Necessary
If you intend to test circuits with this probe, fused test probes should be used. -
Do Not Operate Without Covers
To avoid the risk of electric shock or fire, do not remove covers during testing. -
Do Not Operate in Wet Environments
To avoid electric shock, do not operate this probe in wet environments. -
Do Not Operate in Flammable Environments
To avoid injury or fire, do not use this probe in flammable environments. -
Avoid Exposed Circuits
To avoid injury, remove jewelry such as earrings, watches, and other metal objects. Do not touch exposed connections and components. -
Use Appropriate Power Supply
To ensure the probe functions correctly, use 4 AA batteries or the company's dedicated 6V adapter. -
Do Not Operate if Fault Suspected
If you suspect the product is damaged, have it inspected by qualified service personnel.
Description
To enable traditional oscilloscopes to display and test circuit waveforms with high common-mode voltages, this differential probe extends the oscilloscope's measurement capabilities to electronic power converters, inverters, motor speed control, switching power supplies, and many other applications.
Pintech PT-680 Differential Probe (100MHz, 3000Vp-p)
Note: The document mentions PT-630 in the title and image, but PT-680 in this section. Assuming PT-630 is the correct model based on the title and image.
Observe Maximum Working Voltage
To avoid injury, when testing between each input terminal and ground, or between the two input terminals using this probe, do not exceed 1000 Vrms CAT III. This voltage value applies to both 1/50 and 1/500 attenuation settings.
Installation
- Connect the probe's BNC output to the oscilloscope or other instrument.
- Install batteries in the probe or connect the supplied power adapter.
- Select the appropriate attenuation gear. For higher resolution and lower noise, select the 1/50 gear when testing signals below 300V, and the 1/500 gear when testing signals above 300V.
⚠ Attention! To avoid electric shock, use only accessories originally supplied with this differential probe.
- Use appropriate probe accessories to connect to the test circuit.
⚠ Caution Warning! This probe is for differential testing between two points in a circuit, not for electrical insulation testing between the test circuit and the test instrument.
Appearance
The appearance of this differential probe is as follows:
A. Output Cable: Connects the BNC output connector of the oscilloscope and the auxiliary ground terminal.
B. Input Cable: Output cable of the differential probe connecting to the probe hook.
C. Probe Hook: Hook for safe connection to the circuit test point.

Voltage limits are below DC+Peak AC values and RMS values.
The supply voltage must be below 12V and above 4.4V. Be sure to use the manufacturer's original adapter, otherwise the probe may be damaged or may not operate normally.
Normal polarity is positive input, negative output. If the polarity is reversed, the internal circuitry will protect the probe, and dangerous situations or damage will not occur.
Pintech
When the battery power is insufficient, the power indicator light will flash.
Operation Procedure
- Connect the PT-630's output end to the oscilloscope.
- Adjust the vertical switch on the oscilloscope if necessary.
- Set the attenuation ratio and vertical switch on the oscilloscope to consistent positions.
Estimate the voltage value to be measured before testing. Exceeding the voltage range may damage the probe.
Before turning on the probe, it is best to set the probe gear to maximum. Connect the power adapter to the probe, toggle the power switch, the green light turns on. When the test voltage exceeds the range, the light turns red.
- Set the oscilloscope's attenuation ratio according to the probe's selected ratio.
- Connect the probe hook to the object to be measured and start measuring.
- After the measurement is complete, first turn off the circuit being measured, then turn off the probe switch, disconnect the probe hook from the object being measured, and unplug the BNC interface from the oscilloscope.
Precautions for Use
When measuring, try to wind the input cable to better eliminate lead inductance and external noise, improving high-frequency response and anti-interference capabilities. The winding method is shown in the figure below:
Try not to extend the input cable, as this will introduce more noise.
Over-voltage Indication
If the voltage input signal exceeds the probe's maximum test voltage, the over-voltage indicator light will turn red. If this occurs, the probe's output signal may not accurately display the signal input to the probe.
Inspection Steps
- Connect the probe's BNC output to the oscilloscope.
- Install batteries or connect the supplied adapter.
- Set the oscilloscope input coupling to DC and 1V/div.
- Connect the wires to the probe hooks supplied with the probe.
- Select the 1/500 gear.
- A normally amplified 50Hz/60Hz sine wave appears on the oscilloscope, indicating that the probe is working normally.
