2. General Safety Overview

Please read the following safety precautions carefully to avoid injury and prevent damage to this product or any product connected to it.

  1. Must be Grounded: This probe is grounded through the shell of the BNC connector and the auxiliary ground terminal, via the ground conductor of the measurement instrument's power cord. When the test instrument is properly grounded, ensure the BNC connector at the output end is correctly connected to the measurement instrument and the auxiliary ground terminal is properly grounded before connecting the input end of this probe.
  2. Use Fuse-type Test Probes When Necessary: If you intend to test circuits with this probe, fuse-type test probes should be used.
  3. Do Not Operate Without Covers: To avoid electric shock or fire hazards, do not remove covers during testing.
  4. Do Not Operate in Humid Environments: To avoid electric shock, do not operate this probe in humid environments.
  5. Do Not Operate in Flammable Environments: To avoid injury or fire, do not use this probe in flammable environments.
  6. Avoid Exposed Circuits: To avoid injury, remove jewelry such as earrings, watches, and other metal objects. Do not touch exposed connections and parts.
  7. Use Appropriate Power Supply: To ensure the probe functions correctly, use 4 AA batteries or the company's dedicated 6V adapter.
  8. Do Not Operate If There is Doubt About Malfunction: If you suspect the product is damaged, have it inspected by qualified service personnel.

3. Description

To enable traditional oscilloscopes to display and test circuit waveforms with high common-mode voltage, this differential probe extends the oscilloscope's measurement capabilities to electronic power converters, inverters, motor speed control, switching power supplies, and many other applications.

Pintech PT-670 Differential Probe (100MHz, 7000Vp-p)

4. Observe Maximum Working Voltage

To avoid injury, when testing each input terminal to ground or between the two input terminals with this probe, do not exceed 2500 Vrms CAT III. This voltage value applies to both 1/100 and 1/1000 attenuation settings.

1. Installation

  1. Connect the probe's BNC output end to the oscilloscope or other instrument.
  2. Install batteries in the probe or connect it to the supplied power adapter.
  3. Select the appropriate attenuation gear. For higher resolution and lower noise, select the 1/100 gear when the test signal is below 700V, and select the 1/1000 gear when the signal is above 700V.
  4. Warning! To avoid electric shock, use only accessories originally supplied with this differential probe.
  5. Caution! This probe is for differential testing between two points in a circuit, not for electrical insulation testing between the circuit under test and the test instrument.

2. Appearance

The appearance structure of this differential probe is as follows:

A. Output Cable: Connects the BNC output connector of the oscilloscope and the auxiliary ground terminal.

B. Input Cable: Output cable of the differential probe connected to the probe hook.

C. Probe Hook: The probe hook for safe connection to the circuit test point.

Voltage limits are below DC+Peak AC values and RMS values.

The power supply voltage must be below 12V and greater than 4.4V. Be sure to use the original manufacturer's adapter, otherwise the probe may be damaged or unable to operate normally.

Normal polarity is positive input, negative output. If the polarity is incorrect, the internal circuitry will protect the probe, and dangerous or damaging situations will not occur.

When the battery power is insufficient, the power indicator light will flash.

4. Operation Procedure

  1. Connect the PT-670's output end to the oscilloscope.
  2. Adjust the vertical switch on the oscilloscope if necessary.
  3. Adjust the attenuation ratio and vertical switch on the oscilloscope to the same position.
  4. Estimate the voltage to be measured before testing. Exceeding the voltage range may damage the probe.

  5. Before turning on the probe, it is best to set the probe gear to maximum. Connect the power adapter to the probe, toggle the power switch, the green light turns on. When the test voltage exceeds the range, the light turns red.

  6. Set the oscilloscope's attenuation ratio according to the probe's selected ratio.
  7. Connect the probe hook to the object to be tested and start measuring.
  8. After the test is completed, first turn off the circuit under test, then turn off the probe switch, disconnect the probe hook from the object under test, and unplug the BNC interface from the oscilloscope.

5. Precautions for Use

When measuring, try to wind the input cable to better eliminate lead inductance and external noise, improving high-frequency response and anti-interference capabilities. The winding method is shown in the figure below:

Try not to extend the input cable, as this will introduce more noise.

6. Over-voltage Indication

If the input voltage signal exceeds the probe's maximum test voltage, the over-voltage indicator light will turn red. If this situation occurs, the probe's output signal may not accurately display the signal input to the probe.

7. Inspection Steps

  1. Connect the probe's BNC output end to the oscilloscope.
  2. Install batteries or connect the supplied adapter.
  3. Set the oscilloscope input coupling to DC and 1V/div.
  4. Connect the wires of the probe hook.
  5. Select the 1/1000 gear.
  6. A normally amplified 50Hz/60Hz sine wave appears on the oscilloscope, indicating that the probe is working normally.
