Important Safety Warnings
WARNING: Risk of fatal electric shock from touching live connections. Before working on the controller, always switch off the 230V power supply and prevent it from being accidentally switched on.
Mounting Instructions
The controller must be mounted on a flat surface, using screws with a maximum diameter of 4 mm. It can also be installed using the accompanying DIN rail.
Diagram Description: The diagrams show the extension unit and illustrate mounting options on a flat surface or a DIN rail.
Electrical Connections
The controller requires a 230V power supply. Ensure the controller is ready for pairing sensors/thermostats after connecting power.
Connection Points:
- A: Pump Output: 230V pump output, max. load 0.5A. Cables must be secured with strain relief. This output can control a local pump or transfer heat demand signals to the master unit.
- B: Boiler/Heat Supply Output: Potential-free relay, max. load 1A.
- C: Cable Strain Relief: Ensure cables are pressed firmly into the rubber relief using a flat tool that cannot damage the cable.
Diagram Description: Diagrams illustrate the wiring for the pump output, boiler/heat supply output, and the correct method for securing cables with strain relief.
Fuse Replacement
The controller uses a glass fuse: WT 6.3A (5 x 20 mm). Always turn off the 230V power supply before replacing the fuse.
System Expansion
The Roth Touchline® SL system can be expanded:
- A Roth Touchline® SL 8-channel master controller can wirelessly connect to up to three Roth Touchline® SL 8-channel extension controllers.
- Additionally, each controller can be connected to one 4-channel extension using a BUS cable, allowing for a total of up to 48 channels in a system.
- For installations with very long distances between controllers, a BUS cable connection is recommended. Refer to the online user manual for detailed setup instructions.
Diagram Description: Diagrams show the system architecture for expanding the controller with multiple 8-channel extensions wirelessly and connecting a 4-channel extension via BUS cable.
Wireless Connection of Extension to Master
This section details the process for wirelessly connecting an 8-channel extension controller to an 8-channel master controller.
Steps:
- On the extension controller, press the MENU button and follow the on-screen prompts (Screens 8-14). Use the arrow keys to navigate and the menu button to confirm.
- On the master controller, press the MENU button and follow the on-screen prompts (Screens 15-20) to complete the registration.
Upon successful registration, a "Registration was successful" message will appear on both the master and extension units. Press "Menu" to exit.
After registration, press the 'EXIT' button until the standard display appears. Once sensors/thermostats are connected, all channels from both the master and extension will be visible on the master display. Channels can be operated from the master unit or via the Roth Touchline® SL app if the master is connected to the internet via a Roth Touchline® SL WiFi module.
Connecting a 4-Channel Extension
This describes connecting a 4-channel extension to an 8-channel extension controller.
Procedure:
- Connect the 4-channel extension module using the provided BUS cable to the BUS input on the extension controller.
- Ensure the jumper is correctly positioned in both units.
- Press the MENU button on the extension controller and follow the on-screen steps (Screens 24-29).
Connecting a 4-channel extension can be performed either from the extension controller or the master controller.
Output Configuration
It is possible to assign multiple outputs (up to 12 total, combining an 8-channel controller and a 4-channel extension) to a single zone or thermostat.
This configuration is managed through the "Output configuration" menu.
By default, outputs are assigned sequentially (e.g., Output 1 to Zone 13, Output 2 to Zone 14).
Example: Moving Output 2 from Zone 14 to Zone 13 means Zone 13 will now control both Output 1 and Output 2.
Important Note: When reassigning outputs, a message "Pump on/off will be deactivated in this zone" may appear. This indicates that the previous zone (e.g., Zone 14) will no longer activate the pump; the heat call from the new zone (e.g., Zone 13) becomes the determining factor.
You can view an overview of the output configuration by pressing EXIT from the main screen and selecting "Output configuration". This screen shows which outputs are connected to which zones. For instance, Output 1 and 2 connected to Zone 13. Zone 14 can still be used to control wireless Roth radiator actuators.
Diagram Description: Diagrams illustrate the menu navigation for output configuration, showing the assignment of outputs to zones and the overview screen.
Thermostat and Sensor Pairing
This section guides you through pairing a thermostat or sensor to a zone on the extension controller.
Procedure:
- Follow the on-screen steps (Screens 39-47) to pair a thermostat/sensor to a zone/channel on the controller.
- Finish by pressing the MENU button, then press EXIT multiple times until the start screen is displayed.
Important: Locate the pairing/registration button on your specific thermostat/sensor. When pressing the pairing button, avoid touching the front surface of thermostats with touchbuttons, as this may impair their functionality.
Diagram Description: Diagrams show the menu navigation for pairing devices and illustrate the location of pairing buttons on various thermostat models.
Floor Sensor Pairing
If your thermostat is equipped with a floor sensor, it must also be paired/registered. Follow the steps shown in Screens 48-56.
For further information on the settings and usage of thermostats and sensors, please refer to the manuals provided with those specific products.
Diagram Description: Diagrams illustrate the process of pairing a thermostat with a floor sensor.
Pump Stop Setup
This section explains how to configure the pump stop functionality.
- No Extension Pump: If the extension controller does not have its own pump connected, no specific settings are required. The heat demand signal will automatically transfer from the extension controller to the master controller.
- Extension Pump Control: If a pump needs to be connected and controlled exclusively by the extension controller, the "Global pump control" setting must be modified on the extension controller.
Configuration Steps:
- Follow the on-screen prompts (Screens 57-60) for setting up the controller.
- In Step 60, remove the "tick" from "Global control" by pressing the MENU button.
