This document provides installation instructions for the Roth Touchline® SL thermostat and its associated underfloor heating system components.
Mounting the Thermostat
Step 1: Detach the Backplate
Gently push the snap lock with a finger or screwdriver (if mounted on the wall) to slide the backplate off the thermostat.
Step 2: Insert Batteries
Insert the included batteries, paying attention to the correct +/- polarity.
Step 3: Mount Backplate
Mount the backplate on the wall (screws not included). Slide the thermostat onto the backplate. Ensure it is securely attached.
Optional: Free-standing Setup
If you wish to use the thermostat as a free-standing unit, the supplied foot can be mounted in the backplate before the thermostat is re-attached.
Connecting a Floor Sensor
Step 4a: Connect Floor Sensor (Optional)
It is possible to connect an optional floor sensor. Gently push on the terminals while inserting the sensor cable. The sensor cable should be run through a conduit, and the sensor tip placed directly beneath the top floor covering, in the middle between the underfloor heating pipes.
Controller Pairing and Registration
Compatibility
The thermostat can be connected to all Controllers in the Roth Touchline® SL series. Pairing/registering is performed identically on all Controllers using the same buttons. The images show the panel of the Roth Touchline® SL Controller, master.
Steps to Register Thermostat (Steps 5-10)
Follow these steps to register the thermostat to a zone (channel) on the controller:
- Step 5: View the initial controller display, typically showing date, time, and "No active zones".
- Step 6: Access the controller's main Menu, which includes options like "Zones", "Manual mode", "Time settings", and "Language version".
- Step 7: Navigate to the "Zones" screen to select a specific zone (e.g., Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4).
- Step 8: Select the desired zone (e.g., ZONE 1) and initiate the "Registration" process.
- Step 9: The controller will prompt: "Do You want to register the sensor?". Select "Yes".
- Step 10: The controller will display "REGISTRATION Searching" as it looks for the thermostat.
Step 11: Pairing the Thermostat
Press the pairing button located on the rear of the thermostat. Note: Do not press the buttons on the front of the thermostat while pushing the pairing button on the rear.
Steps to Complete Registration
After pressing the pairing button on the thermostat, follow these steps on the controller:
- Press the "OK" button on the controller when prompted.
- The controller will display "Sensor registered".
Step 13: Registration Confirmation Display
The controller display will now show detailed information:
- Date and Time (e.g., Mo. 01.09.20, 20:52)
- Temperature Settings: Setpoint temperature (e.g., 22.0°C) and Actual temperature (e.g., 25.0°C).
- Mode of Operation: Indicated by abbreviations like "CON" (Continuous).
- Battery Status: Shown as a percentage (e.g., 99%).
- Signal Strength: Indicated as a percentage (e.g., 100% - must be at least 10%).
For more information on the display, consult the controller manual. Repeat the registration process for any additional thermostats on different channels (2 to 8).
Important: If a thermostat is paired to the wrong zone, do not delete it. Simply pair the thermostat to the correct/new zone, and the old pairing will be automatically deleted.
Floor Sensor Registration
Steps to Register Floor Sensor (Steps 14-21)
If the thermostat has a floor sensor connected, it must also be paired/registered. This process is similar to registering the thermostat:
- Navigate through the controller menus to "FLOOR HEATING" and then "Registration".
- When prompted "Do You want to register the sensor?", select "Yes".
- The controller will begin "Searching" for the sensor.
- Perform the specific action required for sensor pairing, which may involve two quick presses on a button on the thermostat or sensor unit (as indicated in picture 21).
- Confirm the registration when prompted (e.g., by pressing "OK").
Step 22: Sensor Registration Confirmation
The controller display will show "Sensor registered" and "OK" upon successful registration.
Step 23: Overview Display with Floor Sensor
The controller's overview display will now include information for the floor sensor:
- Thermostat Setpoint Temperature (e.g., 22.0°C)
- Thermostat Actual Temperature (e.g., 25.0°C)
- Mode of Operation (e.g., CON)
- Battery Status (e.g., 99%)
- Actual Floor Temperature (e.g., 21.0°C)
Repeat steps 14-21 for all other zones/channels (2 to 8) where a floor sensor is connected.
Floor Sensor Settings
Operation Modes: Floor Protection vs. Comfort
Floor sensor settings are configured on the controller. The operation mode can be set to either "Floor Protection" (standard) or "Comfort".
Configuring Floor Protection (Steps 24-27)
- On the controller, navigate to "FLOOR HEATING" > "Operation mode".
- Select "Floor protection".
- Navigate to "Max temperature" and set the maximum floor temperature to protect your floor.
- Confirm the settings by pressing "Menu".
Configuring Comfort Mode (Steps 28-31)
- On the controller, navigate to "FLOOR HEATING" > "Operation mode".
- Select "Comfort".
- Navigate to "Min temperature" and set the desired minimum floor temperature for comfort.
- Confirm the settings by pressing "Menu". The minimum temperature is set as described.
Priority Explanation
Floor Protection Mode: Heating will stop if the temperature exceeds the set maximum temperature.
Comfort Mode: The room thermostat has priority as long as the temperature is between the set minimum and maximum. Outside these limits, the floor sensor has priority.
Thermostat Operation and Settings
Standby Mode & Temperature Adjustment
In standby mode, the current temperature is displayed. Use the < > buttons to set or change the temperature. Confirm by pressing the button or waiting 5 seconds.
Display Information (Temperature/Humidity)
You can switch between the temperature display and the relative humidity display by briefly pressing the button.
Operation Modes (Con, 5h, OFF)
You can choose between three modes on the thermostat:
- Con (Constant): The setpoint is active constantly.
- 5h (5 Hours): The setpoint is valid for 5 hours, after which the thermostat returns to its normal mode.
- OFF: The thermostat follows the mode preset on the Controller.
Changing the mode (Con, 5h, OFF) is done using the < > buttons when the mode is flashing.
Battery Level Check
To view the battery level, select "Bat". The display will flash, and after confirming within 5 seconds, the battery level is shown as a percentage.
Button Lock
To lock the buttons, select "Yes" using the < > buttons and confirm. When locked, buttons automatically lock after 10 seconds of inactivity. To unlock, press and hold the < > buttons for 10 seconds. The key lock is activated until you deactivate it in the menu.
Factory Reset
To return the room thermostat to factory settings, select "dEF". The display will flash the selected value. Confirm (Yes) within 5 seconds. The factory settings will be restored.
Sensor Calibration
To view the sensor calibration value, select "Cal". The screen flashes for 3 seconds, and the value is displayed. The value can be changed on the Controller; refer to the user manual.
Exiting Menus
To return from the MENU manually, select "rEt". The screen flashes for 5 seconds and returns to the current temperature view.
