Safety Precautions
General Safety:
- Always follow all safety precautions outlined in the owner's manual. Improper use can cause serious or fatal injury.
- Keep bystanders at least 50 ft (15 m) away from the operating area.
- Always operate a trimmer with a properly mounted deflector.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- To reduce the risk of eye injury, always wear safety goggles or glasses that meet ANSI Z87.1.
- STIHL recommends wearing a face shield or face screen over goggles for facial protection.
- Always wear hearing protection to reduce the risk of hearing loss.
Tool Condition:
- To reduce the risk of injury from broken parts, regularly check the condition of the trimmer head at short intervals.
- Do not continue to use the cutting head if it is broken or damaged.
Wear Indicators:
- Wear limit marks are integrated into the base of the PolyCut™™.
- Do not use the STIHL PolyCut™™ if one of the circular holes starts to become visible or if the projecting rim has worn away. This indicates the cutting tool may shatter, potentially causing injury.
Installation and Usage
Mounting Instructions:
- To prevent the head from turning during removal and installation, insert the metal pin into the hole near the top of the gearbox.
- Gently turn the head until it locks into place.
- Follow the visual guide (diagrams 1-8) for proper assembly and blade replacement.
Blade Care:
- It is advisable to keep new STIHL PolyCut™™ blades in a water bath until their first use. This also applies to spare blades not used for extended periods.
- Storing blades in water increases their toughness and edge life.
- When refitting a used blade, ensure it is placed in the same position as it was originally.
