⚠️ General Safety: Always follow all safety precautions in the owner's manual. Improper use can cause serious or fatal injury.
⚠️ Object Projection: Objects may be thrown or ricochet in all directions. To reduce the risk of injury to the operator, never operate a trimmer without a properly mounted deflector. Keep bystanders at least 50 ft (15 m) away.
⚠️ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): To reduce the risk of eye injury, always wear safety goggles that meet ANSI Z87.1. STIHL recommends wearing a face shield or face screen over goggles for facial protection. Always wear hearing protection to reduce the risk of hearing loss.
⚠️ Tool Condition: To reduce the risk of injury from broken parts, check the condition of the trimmer head at regular intervals. Do not continue using broken or damaged tools.
ℹ️ Important Information: Improper use of any power tool may cause serious or fatal injury. Read, understand, and carefully follow the operating and safety instructions in your owner's manual before using these products.
Installation and Line Loading
To lock the cutting head for maintenance: Insert a metal pin (not shown) into the hole near the top of the gearbox. Gently turn the head until it locks securely into place.
Line Specifications:
Line Diameter (A): 2.4 mm (0.095 inches)
Line Length (B): 5 m (16.5 feet)
Step-by-Step Line Loading and Assembly:
- Preparation: Ensure the cutting head is secured using the locking pin.
- Spool Insertion: Place the dual-line spool into the cutting head housing. The spool has a notch for alignment.
- Line Feeding: Feed the trimmer line through the eyelets on the cutting head housing.
- Line Winding: Wind the line evenly onto the spool in the direction indicated by the spool's notches or arrows. Ensure the line ends are accessible.
- Securing the Line: Place the ends of the trimmer line into the notches or retaining slots on the outer edge of the spool to prevent unwinding.
- Reassembly: Place the top cover over the spool and line. Secure the cover, likely with a screw or retaining clip.
- Final Check: Verify that the line is properly loaded and the head is reassembled correctly. Trim any excess line to the desired length.
Note: The diagrams on page 2 visually illustrate these steps. Diagram 4 shows line specifications. Diagrams 8-13 detail the line winding and assembly process.
