General Instructions
Fitting
- Ensure the tow bar has not been damaged during transport and is the correct reference for the vehicle.
- Read the fitting instructions carefully before starting and follow them precisely.
- Present the tow bar under the car first to check alignment of all points.
- If holes need to be drilled:
- Check that no wires can be damaged.
- Remove all soundproofing and underbody protection material.
- Clean and protect drilled holes and body underparts with an anticorrosive product.
- If the vehicle is equipped with special bumpers (sport or tuning parts), contact GDW technical service first to confirm compatibility.
Guarantee
- Do not exceed the indicated towing weight, "D" and "S" values.
- The tow bar must be checked after 1,000 km and at least annually:
- Check all bolted connections and retighten if necessary.
- Repair any damage to the paint finish.
- If the tow bar is subjected to extreme stress, it must be replaced.
- Keep the internal parts of detachable tow bars well greased.
Use
- If the tow ball covers the license plate or fog light, it must be removed when no trailer is used.
Mounting Instructions
Important Notes:
- Consult your dealer for the maximum permissible towing weight your car can handle.
- Remove any bitumen layer on the tow bar mounting points if present.
- Be careful when drilling to avoid damaging brake lines or electrical wiring.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Remove the spare wheel and the rear exhaust silencer. Permanently remove the two bumper supports from underneath the bumper and the two towing eyes.
- Locate the mounting points on the vehicle chassis.
- Points (A) on the mounting brackets (-i) and (-j) align with threaded holes where the towing eyes were previously attached to the chassis.
- Points (B) align with designated holes that are sealed with tape; remove this tape. (Refer to Photo 1, 2).
- Insert the raised washers (-p) into the holes at points (B).
- Attach the mounting brackets (-i) and (-j) to the chassis using points (A) and (B). Insert bolts at points (B) but do not tighten yet. Place washers on the other side of the chassis beam.
- Attach the mounting brackets (-h) and (-k) using points (C) and (C') to the threaded holes underneath the chassis. (Refer to Photo 3, 4). Insert the necessary bolts and washers, but do not tighten yet. Points (E) and (F) on the brackets align with points (E) and (F) on the tow bar.
- Position the tow bar, aligning its points (D) and (E) with the corresponding points (D) and (E) on the already mounted brackets (-h), (-i), (-j), and (-k). Insert the required bolts and washers, and tighten everything securely.
- Attach the bumper to points (G) located underneath the tow bar.
- Reinstall the spare wheel and the exhaust silencer.
- Mount the safety bracket (*) and tighten securely.
Diagram Descriptions:
Photo/Diagram 1: Illustrates the general area of the rear underside of the vehicle, likely showing the removal of the spare wheel, exhaust, and bumper components, and identifying initial mounting locations on the chassis.
Photo/Diagram 2: Shows specific mounting points on the vehicle's chassis side rails, labeled 'A' and 'B', indicating where the initial brackets are to be attached. It also shows the placement of raised washers.
Photo/Diagram 3: Depicts mounting points labeled 'C' and 'C'' on the lower chassis, and potentially 'E' and 'F' which are connection points for the tow bar itself.
Photo/Diagram 4: Shows the tow bar being attached to the vehicle's chassis using the previously installed brackets, with bolts and washers being inserted at points labeled 'D' and 'E'.
Schematic Diagram: A line drawing illustrating the fully assembled tow bar connected to the Mazda MPV chassis. It shows the main tow bar arm and how the various mounting brackets attach to the vehicle frame at points A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.
