This document provides instructions for operating and maintaining the Brookstone Flight Force Flying Tank Drone.

Product Overview

A green drone with tank treads on the sides, featuring four propellers. This device is designed for flying and driving, controlled via a smartphone or tablet app.

Li-Po Battery Warning

This device contains a Lithium-Polymer battery. The battery must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local waste management office for information on battery recycling or disposal.

Charging the Drone's Battery

The Flying Tank Drone includes a rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery. Charge the battery before first use.

To charge the drone's battery:

  1. Connect the charging cable to the Charging Terminal on the battery, ensuring that the pins align properly. (You do not have to remove the battery from the Battery Compartment to charge the battery.)
  2. Insert the charging cable's USB connector into a USB port on an active device, such as a computer, USB adapter, or power bank. The LED in the charging cable is red while charging. The LED turns off when fully charged.
  3. When fully charged, disconnect the charging cable.

WARNING: Do not operate the drone when the battery charge is low. The battery may be damaged and may no longer accept a charge. Land the drone immediately and recharge the battery.

Downloading and Starting the Flying Tank App

You control your drone from your smartphone or tablet using the Flying Tank app. To download the app for iOS® devices, visit the App Store®; to download the app for Android™ devices visit the Google Play™ store. Search for and install FLYING TANK.

Starting the App:

  1. Ensure that the battery has been fully charged and inserted into the battery compartment on the underside of the drone.
  2. Attach the two ends of the Power Connector. The drone's lights will blink rapidly. If you will be operating the drone in Land Mode, tuck the Power Connector into the body cavity to protect the wires.
  3. Place the drone on a flat surface.
  4. On your device, open the WiFi settings page and select FLYING TANK. This establishes the connection between your drone and your device. (If the FLYING TANK option is not available, ensure that the drone's battery is charged and the two ends of the Power Connector are attached.)
  5. From your device's app menu, select the FLYING TANK app. The app's Home Screen displays.
  6. The Home Screen lists three options:
    • Tap Controls to begin flying or driving your drone.
    • Tap Setup for instructions for setting up and using the Flying Tank.
    • Tap Settings to save or reset your parameters, and to switch between left-hand and right-hand mode. The default is left-hand mode.

The Controls Screen

The Controls screen of the FLYING TANK app allows you to control your drone.

WARNING! Practice controlling your drone in an area that is free of obstacles, buildings, power lines, people, pets, vehicles, or anything that might be damaged should you lose control of your drone. Allow ample practice time before using your drone in more challenging environments.

Using the Controls

Use the following controls to fly, drive, or take pictures and videos with the Flying Tank.

Return to Home ScreenTap to return to the Home Screen.
Take PhotoTap to take a photograph of the camera's current view. A message displays the path to the storage location.
Record VideoTap to begin taking a video. Tap again to end the video. A message displays the path to the storage location.
Media LibraryTap, then tap the Pictures icon or the Video icon to view your photos or videos.
Speed LevelThe drone has two speed settings, 50% and 100%. Tap to change speeds. While learning to use the drone, it is advisable to start in the 50% speed setting.
Show/Hide ControlsSet to OFF by default. Tap to toggle to ON. The controls will display, and the drone's lights will stop blinking, indicating that it is ready to be controlled by the app.
Headless ModeSet forward, backward, left, and right directions relative to the drone's position from you. Left turns left, right turns right, regardless of the position of the front and back of the drone. Tap to activate Headless Mode. Tap again to deactivate Headless Mode.
Gyro CalibrationCrashing the drone may cause it to become imbalanced. If this occurs, tap this button to re-calibrate the drone's gyroscope.
Land ModeToggle to switch from flying mode to land (tank) mode.
Trim Controls: Forward/Backward, Left/Right, Left/Right RotateTo ensure that your drone can fly straight and level, you must trim the aircraft so it remains stable both in takeoff and in flight. If the drone drifts slightly in one direction, slide the trimmer controls in the opposite direction. NOTE: It is best to make final trim adjustments when the craft is airborne.
ThrottleControls the altitude, or height, of the drone, as well as the yaw (nose turns left or right). In Land Mode, controls the yaw (nose turns left or right).
DirectionControls the direction of travel of the drone. In Land Mode, controls the forward and backward direction of travel.

Replacing Damaged Rotor Blades

The drone has four rotor blades: two that turn clockwise (A) and two that turn counterclockwise (B). Four replacement rotor blades are included with your drone: two type A and two type B.

If a rotor blade becomes damaged, replace it by removing the damaged blade and replacing it with a new blade of the same type.

If you need additional replacement rotor blades, contact your nearest Brookstone retailer or visit brookstone.com.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
No response after battery is connected to drone.Check that the battery has been fully charged and that there is good contact with the battery terminals.
Motor does not respond to throttle stick.Check that the battery has been fully charged.
Rotor blade continues to spin after landing.Return the throttle to the zero position.

One (1) Year Limited Warranty

Brookstone® warrants this product against defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of purchase by the original purchaser (“Warranty Period”). If a defect arises and a valid claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option, Brookstone will either 1) repair the defect at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, or 2) replace the product with a new product that is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or 3) provide a store credit in the amount of the purchase price of the original product.

A replacement product or part, including a user-installable part installed in accordance with instructions provided by Brookstone, assumes the remaining warranty of the original product. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Brookstone's property. When a store credit is given, the original product must be returned to Brookstone and becomes Brookstone's property.

Obtaining Service: To obtain warranty service, call Brookstone Limited Warranty Service at 1-800-292-9819. Please be prepared to describe the product that needs service and the nature of the problem. A purchase receipt is required. All repairs and replacements must be authorized in advance. Service options, parts availability, and response times will vary. You are responsible for delivery and the cost of delivery of the product or any parts to the authorized service center for replacement, per our instructions.

Limits and Exclusions: Coverage under this Limited Warranty is limited to the United States of America, including the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This Limited Warranty applies only to products manufactured for Brookstone that can be identified by the “Brookstone” trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to them or their packaging. The Limited Warranty does not apply to any non-Brookstone products. Manufacturers or suppliers other than Brookstone may provide their own warranties to the purchaser, but Brookstone, in so far as permitted by law, provides these products “as is.”

This warranty does not apply to:

IF BROOKSTONE CANNOT LAWFULLY DISCLAIM STATUTORY OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, THEN TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALL SUCH WARRANTIES SHALL BE LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE DURATION OF THIS EXPRESS WARRANTY.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state.
