OMMJÄNGE: A Limited Collection

Press material | On sale from September 2025

Welcome to OMMJÄNGE

Come with us to look at traditional Swedish furniture with a contemporary perspective. Here is a unique limited collection for everyone who appreciates a good remix.

Unconventionally Traditional

Folk design might seem understated or old-fashioned to some. We explored hidden places, like behind cabinets and inside clothing, discovering surprisingly bright colors. Old pieces with thoughtful functions, made with amazing craftsmanship from durable materials, suggest that life years ago was similar to today in many ways. In the 19th century, Swedish villagers had little money, so they often had only one room for sleeping, eating, and receiving guests. Today, we might live in small apartments for different reasons, but we still need versatile solutions like they did back then.

A Joint Work of Past and Present

When designers Maria Vinka and Matilda Hunyadi planned the direction for the OMMJÄNGE collection, they were captivated by a portrait of a 19th-century Swedish rural bride. This became their primary source of inspiration. The portrait, painted by a traveling artist in 1846, depicted a girl in a wedding dress adorned with graphic patterns in striking colors: black dress with red textile roses and triangular ornaments in green, black, red, white, and blue, topped with a crown. The OMMJÄNGE collection works with traditional materials in fresh colors, offering a new perspective on Swedish folk style.

Long Live Honest Craftsmanship!

The OMMJÄNGE collection pays homage to our folk heritage. It draws from Swedish craft traditions and combines them with inventive solutions favored by the modern era. We invite you to see a showcase of elaborate, handmade, playful new items made from classic materials like solid pine, wool, stoneware, and glass. The OMMJÄNGE collection is inspired by 19th-century techniques and a stunning sense of detail characteristic of folk art, boldly merging contemporary needs with forgotten traditions.

Carry Your Tea and Snack Traditionally

While working on these trays, designer Maria Vinka was inspired by the tradition of "svepask" – small, usually round or oval boxes made from wood bent with heat. The OMMJÄNGE trays are shaped like drops and made from birch veneer bent with heat. One tray has a natural birch wood finish, while the other is enhanced with an orange lacquer that still reveals the wood grain. They have handles for easy carrying and a practical hole for hanging on the wall when not in use.

"I want to honor the roots of Swedish heritage and show that folk art can be both inspiring and exciting." – Maria Vinka, designer.

A Bench for... Anything

In the 19th century, almost everyone in rural Sweden stored clothes in a chest or a bench by the bed. This bench is a great example of discreet storage that we can certainly use at home today. The OMMJÄNGE bench with storage has a solid pine frame and a removable lid. Each side features different textiles – so if you tire of the orange-pink motif, you can quickly flip it to the yellow-black side. Or, you can complement the wooden frame with a completely different fabric you like!

Hide Your Treasures Behind Pink Doors

In most Swedish households in the 19th century, you would find a small decorative bar cabinet. Our version of this important piece of furniture is the OMMJÄNGE cabinet, made of stained solid pine. Its shape draws from the graphic lines of traditional Swedish folk art and looks wonderful both open and closed. What would you hide behind the distinctive cut-out doors?

The Classic Folding Table

The classic folding table originated as a solution for small homes and was very popular 200 years ago. Our OMMJÄNGE folding table uniquely builds on the history of variously decorated tables – the tabletop itself is decorative.

Just Lean Back and Relax

Designer Matilda Hunyadi wanted the OMMJÄNGE chair, made of pine wood, to have a slightly reclined backrest for greater comfort. To achieve this, she ensured stability. Inspired by rocking chairs, she added side panels to the back legs with a short overhang. These prevent the chair from tipping over and also serve as an unexpected element that enlivens the classic shape.

A Rug That Tells a Story

This hand-woven OMMJÄNGE rug is inspired by the richly decorated 19th-century Swedish wedding costume and reliably catches the eye in any interior. Its geometric patterns and combination of short and long pile create a dynamic look, and the wool material is pleasantly soft and warm.

Modern "Milking Stool"

As the name suggests, the so-called "milking stool" was originally intended for the cowshed – to ease the back and knees during milking. However, it soon found use in many other household tasks. The OMMJÄNGE stool, made of solid pine, is inspired by the triangular shape of split logs and enhanced with a vibrant orange stain. It's useful for tying shoelaces or as a small table for magazines or decorations. Because it's small and light, you can easily move it wherever needed.

A Cushion Cover with Traditional Texture

This OMMJÄNGE cushion cover features a fine pattern woven with traditional techniques, making it naturally crinkled and pleasant to the touch. Add the stripes and cheerful colors, and it's clear that it's just as joyful to look at as it is to lean on.

Crown of the Interior

A beautiful lamp is like the cherry on top – the final detail that can tie a whole room together and instantly reveal who you are. The OMMJÄNGE pendant lamp's colorful shade is assembled from three steel cones and its rounded shape resembles a fluffy skirt. Decorative cut-outs in the yellow cone subtly reveal the pink underskirt, and when lit, they emit a soft light.

The OMMJÄNGE Candle Holder

The OMMJÄNGE candle holder is inspired by the 19th-century Swedish wedding costume, which brides often wore with a crown. This queenly piece, made of glazed stoneware, will look excellent on a table or in any corner you want to brighten.

Glass in Milk and Amber Colors

The OMMJÄNGE collection also includes several glass items: a large pitcher, glasses, bowls, and a serving bowl with two spouts. Designer Maria Vinka drew inspiration from typical Swedish glazed terracotta bowls for their creation. She slightly modified the shape and chose an original combination of colors and finishes using transparent and opaque glass.

Products: OMMJÄNGE glass, OMMJÄNGE pitcher, OMMJÄNGE bowl, OMMJÄNGE serving bowl.

"The classic Scandinavian dough bowl, called 'spillkum', was previously made from glazed terracotta. It had white decoration and two spouts for pouring dough. I liked the idea of making the bowl entirely of glass. Glassware is less prone to chipping and can be washed in the dishwasher." – Maria Vinka, designer.

Lighthouse in the Dark

The hand-blown OMMJÄNGE tealight holder is inspired by classic oil lamps. Their distinctive shape gains new meaning and elegance in this interpretation. The candle flame, lit in the OMMJÄNGE holder, will reflect beautifully off the clear glass, filling the room with warm light.

The OMMJÄNGE Basket

This large, stable basket, shaped like a four-leaf clover with a colored edge, is handmade from rattan woven into a metal frame. It's great for carrying logs to the fireplace, but also for storing blankets and cushions.

Wisdom Comes with Age

Basket weaving is considered one of the oldest crafts and an integral part of traditional folk art. In the 19th century, Swedes wove baskets and boxes from thinly sliced birch bark, called "näver". The OMMJÄNGE set of two baskets in different sizes uses the same hand-weaving technique, but with thinly sliced poplar. Every second strip is stained to give the baskets a touch of color.

Product: OMMJÄNGE basket, set of 2.

OMMJÄNGE Wall Hooks

The OMMJÄNGE wall hooks are inspired by traditional wirework methods. They feature a four-leaf clover shape, come in vibrant colors, and are sold in sets of three. If you have unused wall space, these cheerful flower shapes can help you create practical storage.

Precursor to the Poster

The OMMJÄNGE hanging tapestry was created out of admiration for traditional tapestries that Scandinavians used to hang on walls in their living rooms or above kitchen benches in the past. It is woven from 100% cotton and its print is an abstract depiction of a 19th-century Swedish bride. In a modern interior, it serves as a versatile wall decoration that also absorbs sound.

"Contact with ancestral heritage helps us find a firm footing in today's rapidly changing world. The OMMJÄNGE collection is a playful celebration of our history." – Matilda Hunyadi, designer.
