PRUNUS J-288 Mini Speaker Radio User Manual
Thank you for purchasing the PRUNUS J-288 radio. In order to get the best from the radio, please read this manual carefully before using it and take special notice of the section on precautions.
Precautions
- You have to press the power switch for at least 3 seconds to turn ON/OFF this product.
- The screen will go to sleep automatically after 60 seconds if no operation; this design is for power saving.
- Please charge this product in a safe environment; do not charge under unstable voltage or near dangerous goods.
- Please do not use this product near water or put it into liquid.
- Please do not use this product in environments over 40 degrees Celsius.
- Please do not throw this product into fire, as it may cause explosion.
Functional Components
The PRUNUS J-288 Mini Speaker Radio features a control panel with various buttons and indicators. The components are identified as follows:
- 1. Power switch: Used to turn the device ON/OFF.
- 2. Number buttons: For direct channel or track selection.
- 3. Volume knob: Adjusts the audio volume.
- 4. DC 5V charging/AUX in jack: For charging the device and connecting AUX input.
- 5. Earphone output: Socket for connecting headphones.
- 6. USB port: For connecting USB flash drives.
- 7. Previous/Rewind: Navigates to the previous track or rewinds.
- 8. Play/Pause: Controls playback of music or pauses/resumes calls.
- 9. Next/Fast-forward: Navigates to the next track or fast-forwards.
- 10. Mode switch: Cycles through available modes (USB, TF, FM, AM, AUX, BT).
- 11. BT calling button: Used for Bluetooth pairing and call management.
- 12. Scan and memory radio channels: Initiates automatic channel scanning and storage.
- 13. Lock button: Locks/unlocks other buttons to prevent accidental presses.
- 14. Repeat: Sets repeat mode for music playback (ONE, FOLD, ALL).
- 15. Sleep timer button: Sets a timer for automatic shutdown.
- 16. TF card slot: For inserting TF (microSD) cards.
- 17. Telescopic aerial: Extends to improve FM/AM radio reception.
- 18. Charging indicator: Shows charging status (RED for charging, GREEN for fully charged).
- 19. Microphone: For hands-free calling.
Power Supply
As the system takes time to react, please press the power switch for 3 seconds to turn ON or OFF the radio.
Charging Method
- Plug the large end of the charging cable into a USB port on a computer or power bank, and the small end into the DC 5V charging/AUX in jack (④) of this unit.
- Use a standard DC5V/0.5-2A charger (or a device supplying this power) to charge the unit; using incompatible power sources may damage the radio.
- To ensure longer battery life, avoid prolonged continuous charging, such as 24 hours or more.
Charging Indicator
When charging, the Charging indicator (⑱) will light up RED. Charging typically takes 3-5 hours. The indicator turns GREEN when fully charged.
Power Saving Mode
The screen will automatically enter sleep mode after 60 seconds of inactivity (the radio remains ON). This feature conserves power. Press any key to wake up the screen.
Radio Reception
- Press the Power switch (①) for 3 seconds to turn on the radio.
- Press the Mode switch (⑩) to select FM or AM mode.
- How to search and store channels?
- Automatic Search: Press and hold the Scan and memory radio channels button (⑫) for 3 seconds to automatically scan, store, and number available channels. The order of stored channels cannot be changed manually.
- Manual Search: Press the Number buttons (②) to directly input a frequency or search for channels. For example, pressing 8, then 9, then 8 will tune to the 89.8 MHz channel.
- How to select stored channels?
- Press Previous/Rewind (⑦) or Next/Fast-forward (⑨) to cycle through stored channels.
- Press Number buttons (②) to select a specific channel by its number (e.g., pressing 1 then 5 selects the 15th channel). If the total number of stored channels is less than the entered number, it will play the current channel.
- Turn the Volume knob (③) to adjust the volume.
- Press Play/Pause (⑧) to pause the current playback; press again to resume.
Notes:
- For FM reception, extend the Telescopic aerial (⑰) and adjust its position for optimal signal. For AM reception, rotate the radio unit.
- For better reception, especially indoors, position the radio near a window and keep it away from electronic devices like computers, TVs, refrigerators, and mobile phones.
Music Playing
- Insert a USB flash drive or a TF card containing MP3 files into the USB port (⑥) or TF card slot (⑯). The device will play MP3 files automatically upon detection.
- Turn the Volume knob (③) to adjust the volume.
- Press Previous/Rewind (⑦) or Next/Fast-forward (⑨) to select a song.
- Long press Previous/Rewind (⑦) or Next/Fast-forward (⑨) to rewind or fast-forward through the current track.
- Press Play/Pause (⑧) to pause the current track; press again to resume playback.
- Press Number buttons (②) to select a specific MP3 file by its number (e.g., pressing 9 then 6 selects the 96th MP3 file). If the total number of MP3 files is less than the entered number, it will play the current file.
- Use the Repeat button (⑭) to set the playback mode: ONE (repeat current track), FOLD (repeat all tracks in the current folder), or ALL (repeat all tracks).
- Press Mode switch (⑩) to change to a different mode.
Note: The radio only supports MP3 file formats. Ensure your USB drive or TF card is formatted as FAT or FAT32; NTFS format is not supported.
Play by AUX
- Press Mode switch (⑩) to select AUX mode.
- Connect one end of an AUX cable to the DC 5V charging/AUX in jack (④) and the other end to the earphone jack of your mobile phone or computer. Open your music software/app to play music.
- Turn the Volume knob (③) to adjust the volume.
- Press Play/Pause (⑧) to pause the current playback; press again to resume.
- Press Mode switch (⑩) to change to a different mode.
Note: In AUX mode, only the Volume knob (③), Play/Pause (⑧), and Mode switch (⑩) buttons are functional. Other buttons are disabled.
Play by Bluetooth
- Press Mode switch (⑩) to select Bluetooth mode. The radio will announce "Bluetooth mount".
- Enable Bluetooth on your device (e.g., mobile phone, iPod, computer). Search for the device named "BT-288AM" and connect. A "Dingdong" sound indicates a successful connection. Note: Some Bluetooth devices may require a password (e.g., "0000") for pairing. If pairing fails, turn off Bluetooth on both devices and try again.
- Open your music software/app on the connected device to play music.
- Turn the Volume knob (③) to adjust the volume.
- Press Play/Pause (⑧) to pause the current playback; press again to resume.
- Press Mode switch (⑩) to change to a different mode.
BT Calling
Once successfully paired with your cellphone via Bluetooth, you can use this unit for hands-free calls.
- When there is an incoming call, the radio will announce the caller's number.
- Press the BT calling button (⑪) to answer the call. Speak towards the Microphone (⑲) for clear communication. Press the button again to hang up.
- To reject an incoming call, long press the BT calling button (⑪).
Notes:
- This product cannot initiate calls. If you need to make a call while connected, select Bluetooth as the audio source for calls on your cellphone. This allows you to use the J-288 for speaking instead of your phone's speaker.
- For clearer calls, position yourself close to the Microphone (⑲).
Sleep Timer
- In any mode, press the Sleep timer button (⑮) to set the sleep timer.
- Upon the first press, the screen will display "0240", indicating a 240-minute timer.
- Continue pressing the Sleep timer button (⑮) to select your desired auto-shutdown time: 120, 90, 60, 30, or 15 minutes.
- After selecting the time, wait 3 seconds. The display will revert to the current mode, confirming the sleep timer has been set.
- To change the sleep timer, press the Sleep timer button (⑮) again and follow step 3.
- To cancel the sleep timer, restart the radio. The sleep timer setting must be reapplied after each restart.
Lock Key
Press the Lock button (⑬) to lock all other buttons. The screen will flash, and other buttons will become unresponsive until the Lock button is pressed again.
Headphones
To listen privately without disturbing others, you can use headphones.
- Plug headphones into the Earphone output (⑤). The radio will automatically switch to headphone mode, and the speakers will be muted.
- When headphones are unplugged, the radio returns to speaker mode. Adjust the volume accordingly to suit your environment and hearing.
Human Body Induction
When radio reception is weak, holding the radio in your hand can improve signal strength. Reception may weaken again when your hand is removed. This is a common phenomenon known as "Human Body Induction" observed in most radios.
