PRUNUS J-189 Mini Speaker Radio User Manual

Precautions

Functional Components

The radio features the following components: ① ON/OFF button, ② Volume Knob, ③ DC5V power input, ④ USB port, ⑤ AUX input, ⑥ Earphone Output, ⑦ Number Buttons, ⑧ Previous/Rewind button, ⑨ Play/Pause button, ⑩ Next/Fast-forward button, ⑪ M: Mode switch button (cycles through USB/TF/FM/AM/AUX/BT modes), ⑫ REP: Repeat mode button, ⑬ LED: Flashlight, ⑭ TF Card Slot.

Power Supply

Charging Method

Connect the large end of the charging cable to a USB port on a computer or power bank, and plug the small end into the ③ DC5V input on the unit. For a PRUNUS quality charger, please contact wanwanuk@outlook.com.

Charging Indicator

The charging icon on the display flashes while charging. Two icons appear during charging, and a single full icon indicates the battery is fully charged.

Radio Reception

Radio frequencies vary by location. It is recommended to perform an automatic search before use.

  1. Press the ① ON/OFF button to turn on the radio.
  2. Press the ⑪ M button to switch between FM (76-108MHz), AM (522-1710KHz), or Bluetooth mode.
  3. How to search and store channels:
    • Automatic Search: Press and hold the ⑨ Play/Pause button for 3 seconds to automatically scan, store, and number available channels. The order of stored channels cannot be changed manually.
    • Manual Search: Use the ⑦ Number Buttons to directly input frequencies (e.g., pressing 8 + 9 + 8 will jump to 89.8MHz). Channels cannot be stored or programmed manually this way.
  4. How to select stored channels:
    • Press the ⑧ Previous/Rewind or ⑩ Next/Fast-forward buttons to select the desired channel. This requires an initial automatic search to have been completed.
    • Use the ⑦ Number Buttons to select a specific channel number (e.g., pressing 1 then 5 selects the 15th radio channel). If fewer than 15 channels are stored, it will play the current channel.
  5. Adjust the volume using the ② Volume Knob.
  6. Press the ⑨ Play/Pause button to pause the current playback; press again to resume.

For optimal reception indoors, position the radio near a window and keep it away from other electronic devices such as computers, TVs, refrigerators, and mobile phones.

Music Playing

  1. Insert a USB flash drive or TF card containing MP3 files into the ④ USB port or ⑭ TF Card Slot. Playback will begin automatically once MP3 files are detected.
  2. Adjust the volume using the ② Volume Knob.
  3. Press the ⑧ Previous/Rewind or ⑩ Next/Fast-forward buttons to select a song.
  4. Long press the ⑧ Previous/Rewind or ⑩ Next/Fast-forward buttons to fast-forward or rewind within the current track.
  5. Press the ⑨ Play/Pause button to pause the current track; press again to resume playback.
  6. Use the ⑦ Number Buttons to select a specific MP3 file (e.g., pressing 1, 6, then 8 selects the 168th MP3 file). If the total number of MP3 files is less than the entered number, it will play the current MP3.
  7. The ⑫ REP button cycles through repeat modes: ONE (repeats the current track) and ALL (repeats all tracks).
  8. Press the ⑪ M button to change to another mode.

Note

Played by Bluetooth

  1. Press the ⑪ M button to switch to Bluetooth mode. A "Bluetooth Mount" sound will indicate the mode change.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your device (e.g., mobile phone, iPod, computer) and search for the device named "J-189". Connect to it. A "Dingdong" sound confirms a successful connection. (Note: Some Bluetooth devices may require a password, typically "0000". If pairing fails, turn off Bluetooth on your device, then re-enable and attempt pairing again.)
  3. Open the music software or app on your connected Bluetooth device to play audio.
  4. Adjust the volume using the ② Volume Knob.
  5. Press the ⑨ Play/Pause button to pause playback; press again to resume.
  6. Press the ⑪ M button to switch to another mode.

Note

Played by AUX

  1. Press the ⑪ M button to switch to AM or FM mode.
  2. Insert one end of a 3.5mm audio cable into the ⑤ AUX input jack on the radio, and insert the other end into the earphone jack of your audio source (e.g., mobile phone, computer). The radio will automatically switch to AUX mode upon connection.
  3. Play music from your connected device.
  4. Adjust the volume using the ② Volume Knob.
  5. Press the ⑨ Play/Pause button to pause playback; press again to resume.
  6. Press the ⑪ M button to switch to another mode (e.g., FM, AM, or Bluetooth).

Note

Earphone Use

For private listening without disturbing others, plug earphones into the ⑥ Earphone Output. The radio will automatically switch to earphone listening mode, muting the speaker. Removing the earphones will restore speaker output. Adjust the volume appropriately for your hearing needs and the surrounding environment.

LED Flashlight

The radio includes an integrated ⑬ LED flashlight, useful for emergency situations. Press the ⑬ LED button to turn the flashlight ON or OFF.

Human Body Induction

When radio reception is weak, holding the radio in hand can improve signal strength. Reception may weaken again when the hand is removed. This is a common phenomenon known as "Human Body Induction" observed in most radios.
