Precautions

Strictly follow the instructions below to prevent any damage to health and injury to your property and the property of others.

Handling the Watch

Water Resistance

Watches are classified by their water resistance. Please refer to the table below for details on water resistance and usage conditions.

200m / 300m /...

* It is recommended to use watches in accordance with the above classification, after checking the water resistance marking on the dial or case.

Explanation of Water Resistance Levels and Precautions

  1. 30m (3 bar) water resistance for daily use: Can be used for washing hands etc., but not for immersion in water.
  2. 50m (5 bar) enhanced water resistance for daily use: Can be used during swimming etc., but not for diving or underwater swimming.
  3. 100m or 200m (10 or 20 bar) enhanced water resistance for daily use: Can be used for diving or underwater swimming, but not for diving with oxygen tanks or helium-based diving.
  4. The crown should be in the recessed (normal) position. If it's a screw-down type, it must be screwed down tightly.
  5. Do not use the crown underwater or if the watch is wet. Water can penetrate the case and compromise its water resistance.
  6. If your watch is not water-resistant, avoid splashes (washing, rain etc.) and condensation. Wipe dry with a soft cloth if water gets on the watch or if condensation forms.
  7. Even if your watch is water-resistant for daily use, avoid strong jets of water. Exceeding the permissible water pressure can compromise water resistance.
  8. If your water-resistant watch for daily use comes into contact with seawater, shake off the water and wipe the case dry to prevent corrosion or other negative consequences.
  9. A small amount of moisture may form inside the watch case. If the ambient temperature drops below the internal temperature, condensation may form on the inner surface of the glass. If this condensation is temporary, it does not harm the watch. However, if condensation persists or water enters the watch, consult the place of purchase and do not ignore the problem.

Battery

Battery Precautions

  • [DANGER] Swallowing button-type batteries can cause chemical burns and damage to mucous membranes in a short time, potentially leading to a fatal outcome. Never give button-type batteries to children. If a battery is swallowed or suspected to be swallowed, it must be removed immediately. Seek emergency medical attention.
  • [WARNING] Do not remove the battery from the watch. For battery replacement, contact the seller or the nearest authorized ORIENT service center.
  • This watch uses a battery, not a rechargeable battery. Attempting to recharge it may cause overheating or explosion.
  • Contact with battery fluid may cause rash and other symptoms. Do not store discharged batteries for extended periods.

Battery Replacement

  • [ATTENTION] Leaving a discharged battery in the watch for a long time may cause acid leakage, which can damage the watch's operation. Replace discharged batteries as soon as possible.
  • Install only batteries of the specified type.
  • Battery replacement requires special tools and technology. Incorrect polarity can lead to battery overheating and explosion. For battery replacement, contact the seller or the nearest authorized ORIENT service center.
  • The watch has a battery life indicator. If the second hand starts moving in two-second jumps, the battery life is nearing its end and needs replacement. Contact the seller or an authorized ORIENT service center for battery replacement.

Other Precautions

General Usage Guidelines

  • [ATTENTION] Do not use the watch at high temperatures (e.g., in a sauna). The watch may heat up and cause burns.
  • Chemicals, Gases, etc.: Exercise maximum caution when in contact with gases, mercury, chemicals (paint thinner, gasoline, various solvents, detergents containing such substances, adhesives, paints, medicines, perfumes, cosmetics, etc.). These substances can alter the color of the watch case, bracelet/strap, and dial. Color changes, deformation, and damage to polymer components are also possible.
  • Additional Parts:
    • [ATTENTION] Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the watch.
    • [WARNING] Keep bracelet pins/clasps and other small parts away from children. If a small part is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
  • Allergic Reactions:
    • [ATTENTION] If you experience rash or irritation on your skin after contact with the bracelet, stop wearing the watch and consult a doctor immediately.

Watch Features

  • Luminescent Coating: Some models have luminescent coating on the hands and bezel. It is made of safe, non-radioactive paint that accumulates sunlight and artificial light, emitting it in the dark. As it emits accumulated light, the coating gradually becomes dimmer. The amount of light emitted and the duration of luminescence depend on various factors: glass shape, paint layer thickness, ambient brightness, distance from the light source, and light absorption. Remember that if little light is accumulated, the watch will glow weakly or for a short time.
  • Waterproof Strap: Some models use leather and nylon straps treated to protect against sweat and water. The water resistance of such straps may be lost depending on the period and conditions of use.

Identifying the Caliber Number

Check your watch's caliber number using the model number or case code on the back cover.

  1. Search by 10-digit model number: Check the 10-digit model number on the warranty card provided with the watch. You can also find the number on the product label attached to the watch. The second and third characters of the number indicate your watch's caliber number.
Example: If the model number is "UB8A002B", the caliber number is "UB".
  2. Search by case code: Find the case code on the back cover of your watch.
A: If the case code is six digits, the first two digits correspond to the caliber number.
B: If the case code is 8 or 9 digits, the first three digits correspond to the movement number. The table below shows the correspondence between caliber numbers and movement numbers.

Example A

Diagram showing case code format A.

Case Code: ORIENT KY UB8A-Q0 CS WATER RESISTANT ALL STAINLESS STEEL ORIENT WATCH CO.,LTD. 000000

Example A: If the case code is "UB8A-Q0", the caliber number is "UB".

Example B

Diagram showing case code format B.

Case Code: ORIENT CO.,LTD. 000000 WATER RESISTANT 50M WL HM50A7B-4 CA

Example B: If the case code is "HM50A7B-4", the movement number is "HM5". In the table, this corresponds to caliber number "UB".

* The location of the case code may vary depending on the watch's characteristics, and its characters may be small and difficult to read.
* Illustrations in this manual may differ from the actual appearance of your watch, but functions and operating procedures remain unchanged.

Operation with Rotating Bezel

Note that some models are equipped with a rotating bezel, which should be used correctly.

Turn the bezel to align the mark ▽ with the minute hand. You can measure elapsed time by the distance between the minute hand and the numbers on the rotating bezel indicator. You can also set the mark ▽ to a desired time to remind yourself of the remaining time until a scheduled event.

The bezel cannot be turned in the opposite direction due to a safety mechanism designed to prevent accidental operation from force or impact. The numbers on the rotating bezel can also simplify reading the current time.

* Depending on the design, the reverse rotation lock and the 1-minute click may be absent on some models.
