Handling the Watch
(1) Water Resistance
The water resistance of watches varies. Please refer to the table below for details on operating conditions and water resistance levels.
Type | Operating Conditions | Exposure to small amounts of water (washing, rain, etc.) | Water sports (swimming, etc.), frequent contact with water (car washing, etc.) | Diving (without scuba gear) | Diving (with scuba gear) | Crown operation underwater and with water droplets on it |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Water-permeable | Watches without WATER RESISTANT marking on the case back. | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
Water-resistant for everyday use | Watches with WATER RESISTANT marking on the case back. | ✔️ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
Enhanced water resistance Class I for everyday use | Watches with 50M (5 BAR) marking on the case back or dial, and WATER RESISTANT marking on the watch case back. | ✔️ | ✔️ | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ |
Enhanced water resistance Class II for everyday use | Watches with 100M (10 BAR), 150M (15 BAR), 200M (20 BAR) marking on the case back or dial, and WATER RESISTANT marking on the watch case back. | ✔️ | ✔️ | ✔️ | ❌ | ❌ |
* It is recommended to use the watch carefully, following the operating instructions above. Before use, check for water resistance markings on the dial or case back.
Water Resistance Explanations
- 1. Watches with water resistance for everyday use rated 30M (3 bar) can be used for activities like washing hands, etc., but not for immersion in water.
- 2. Watches with enhanced water resistance for everyday use, Class I (5 bar), can be used for swimming, etc., but not for diving or underwater swimming.
- 3. Watches with enhanced water resistance for everyday use, Class II (100M or 200M / 10 or 20 bar), can be used for diving or underwater swimming, but not for diving with scuba gear or helium-mixed gas diving.
- 4. ATTENTION ⚠️: When operating the watch, the crown must be in the recessed (normal) position. If the crown is a screw-down type, it must be securely screwed down.
- 5. Do not operate the crown underwater or when the watch is wet. Water may penetrate the watch case and compromise its water resistance.
- 6. If your watch is not water-resistant, avoid splashes of water (e.g., when washing hands, in rain, etc.) and fogging. If water gets on the watch or it fogs up, wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
- 7. Even if your watch is water-resistant for everyday use, avoid exposure to strong jets of water. Exceeding the permissible water pressure level may compromise the watch's water resistance.
- 8. If your water-resistant watch for everyday use comes into contact with seawater, shake off the water and wipe the case dry to prevent corrosion or other adverse effects.
- 9. A small amount of moisture may be present inside the watch case. Therefore, when the ambient air temperature is lower than the temperature inside the watch case, fogging may occur on the inner surface of the glass. If the fogging is temporary, it does not harm the watch. However, if the fogging persists for a long time or if water has entered the watch, consult your place of purchase and do not ignore this problem.
Handling Precautions
(2) Shock Resistance
- 1. Remove your watch during strenuous sports activities. However, sports like golf, etc., will not negatively affect the watch's condition.
- 2. Avoid strong impacts, such as dropping the watch on the floor.
(3) Magnetic Field Exposure
- 1. Do not expose the watch to strong magnetic fields for extended periods, as watch components may become magnetized, leading to malfunction. Exercise caution.
- 2. Under the influence of a magnetic field, the watch may temporarily run fast or slow. Accuracy will be restored once the magnetic field is removed. In such cases, reset the time.
(4) Vibration
The watch may lose accuracy if subjected to strong vibrations, such as those caused by riding a motorcycle, using a jackhammer, a chainsaw, etc.
(5) Temperature
The watch may run incorrectly or stop at temperatures below or above the normal range (5°C – 35°C).
ATTENTION ⚠️: Do not use the watch at high temperatures (e.g., in a sauna). The watch may become hot and cause burns.
(6) Chemicals, Gases, etc.
Exercise maximum caution when in contact with gases, mercury, chemicals (paint thinner, gasoline, various solvents, cleaning agents containing such substances, adhesives, paints, medications, perfumes, cosmetics, etc.). These substances may change the color of the watch case, bracelet/strap, and dial. Color changes, deformation, and damage to polymer components are also possible.
(7) Small Parts
WARNING ⚠️: Do not give bracelet/strap pins and other small parts to children. If a small part is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
(8) Allergic Reactions
ATTENTION ⚠️: If a rash or irritation appears on your skin after contact with the bracelet, stop wearing the watch and seek medical attention immediately.
(9) Luminescent Coating
The hands and hour markers of the watch have a luminescent coating. It is made from safe, non-radioactive paint that absorbs sunlight and artificial light and emits it in the dark. As it emits stored light, the coating gradually becomes dimmer. The amount of emitted light and the duration of luminescence depend on various factors: glass shape, paint layer thickness, ambient light level, distance from the light source, and light absorption. Remember that if little light is stored, the watch will glow dimly or for a short time.
(10) Waterproof Strap
Some models use leather and nylon straps that have undergone special treatment for protection against sweat and water. The waterproof property of this strap may be lost depending on the period and conditions of use.
Identifying the Caliber Number
Check your watch's caliber number using the watch model number or case code on the back of the watch case.
1. Finding by 10-digit Model Number
Check the 10-digit model number on the warranty card included with the watch. You can also find the number on the product label attached to the watch. The second and third characters of the number indicate your watch's caliber number.
Example: If the model number is “CUB8A002B0”, the caliber number is “UB”.
2. Finding by Case Code
Find the case code on the back of your watch case.
- A: If the case code is six digits, the first two digits correspond to the caliber number.
- B: If the case code is 8 or 9 digits, the first three digits correspond to the movement number. The table below shows the correspondence between caliber numbers and movement numbers.
Example A
Case Code: KY UB8A-Q0 CS
Example B
Case Code: ORIENT CO.,LTD. WL HM50A7B-4 CA 000000 WATER RESISTANT
Example A: If the case code is “UB8A-Q0”, the caliber number is “UB”.
Example B: If the case code is “HM50A7B-4”, the movement number is “HM5”. In the table, this corresponds to caliber number “UB”.
* Depending on the watch's characteristics, the location of the case code may vary, its characters may be small, and it may be difficult to distinguish.
* Illustrations in this manual may differ from the actual appearance of your watch, but the functions and operating procedures remain unchanged.

Component Names and Functions
The following labels identify the parts of the watch:
- A: Hour Hand
- B: Minute Hand
- C: Second Hand
- D: Crown
- E: Dial

Diagram showing a three-hand watch face with labels A (Hour Hand), B (Minute Hand), C (Second Hand), D (Crown), E (Dial).
* The position of the crown may differ on some models.
Models with Screw-Down Crown
On some models, you cannot pull out the crown without unscrewing it (models with a screw-down crown).
For operating these types of watches:
- (1) Before setting the time, turn the crown counter-clockwise to unlock the screw.
- (2) After setting the time, push the crown in and turn it clockwise until it stops to lock the screw.
Setting the Time
- (1) When the second hand reaches the 0-second position (12 o'clock), pull out the crown. The second hand will stop.
- * If the watch has only two hands, the crown can be pulled out at any time as there is no second hand.
- (2) Set the time by turning the crown. To set the time accurately, set the minute hand 4-5 minutes past the desired time, then move it back to the correct position.
- (3) Push the crown in to return it to its original (unlocked) position.

Using the Rotating Bezel
Please note that some models are equipped with a rotating indicator bezel, which should be used properly. Rotate the bezel to align the mark with the minute hand. As a specific time passes, you can measure the elapsed time by the distance between the minute hand and the numbers on the rotating indicator bezel. You can also set the mark to a desired time to remind yourself of the remaining time until a scheduled event.

The bezel cannot be rotated in the opposite direction because it is equipped with a protective mechanism designed to prevent accidental operation due to force or impact. The numbers on the rotating bezel can also simplify reading the current time.
* Depending on the design, the reverse rotation lock and 1-minute click may not be present on some models.
