Functions & Inputs
Control Panel Overview
The front panel features controls for signal input, gain adjustment, crossover frequency, bass boost, and remote monitoring.
Controls:
- 1 - INPUT (R and L): Signal inputs. Connect these to the head unit's RCA outputs. Use good quality shielded cables to avoid noise interference.
- 2 - GAIN: Adjusts the input sensitivity of the amplifier, allowing precise matching with various head unit output levels. Adjustable from 4V (minimum sensitivity) to 0.2V (maximum sensitivity).
- 3 - CROSSOVER:
- HIGH PASS: Variable setting from 10Hz to 80Hz, defining the start of the amplifier's frequency response.
- LOW PASS: Variable setting from 80Hz to Full, defining the end of the amplifier's operating frequency.
- 4 - BASS BOOST: Provides an extra 50Hz boost for bass frequencies, with variable gain from 0 to +10dB.
- 5 - MONITOR LEVEL REMOTE: Connection for an accessory that controls gain and monitors amplifier status via indicator LEDs (distortion, protection actuation). (Accessory not included).
LED Indicators & Protection System
- Steady blue LED ON: Indicates that the amplifier is powered on.
- Flashing yellow LED (CLIP/TEMP): Indicates the amplifier is overheating. This can be caused by obstructed internal fans, improper installation, or poor ventilation. When the amplifier reaches approximately 85°C (185°F), it enters thermal protection, audio ceases, and the yellow LED flashes. The fan will continue to operate to cool the components. Audio will resume once a safe temperature is reached. It is recommended to keep the amplifier powered on so the fan can continue cooling.
- Flashing yellow LED (according to music): Indicates the amplifier is operating at the limit of distortion. If the red LED also flashes, it signifies excessive distortion.
- Steady red LED ON (PROT): Indicates a short circuit or an impedance lower than the output can handle.
- RED LED flashes 2x: Battery voltage is below 9V.
- RED LED flashes 3x: Battery voltage is above 16V.
Output & Power Supply Connector
Connector Overview
The rear panel features connectors for the fan, speaker outputs, power supply, and remote turn-on signal.
Connectors:
- 1 - FAN: Internal fan for cooling. For optimal operation, install in a dry, ventilated place with at least 1" (25mm) clearance on each side. Normal working temperature is 65°C. CAUTION: The fan and ventilation openings are crucial for cooling; do not obstruct them.
- 2 - SPEAKER: Output terminals for connecting transducers (speakers). Follow polarity and minimum impedance recommendations.
- 3 - POSITIVE POWER SUPPLY TERMINAL: Use a 4 AWG (21mm²) cable directly from the positive terminal of the fused battery (150A), as close to the battery as possible.
- 4 - REMOTE TERMINAL: Connect the remote turn-on wire to this terminal using a 0.75mm² (18 AWG) cable.
- 5 - NEGATIVE POWER SUPPLY TERMINAL: Use a 4 AWG (21mm²) cable, as short as possible, connected to the negative battery pole.
Speaker Impedance Combinations
To combine speakers, the resulting impedance must be considered. The following configurations are illustrated:
- Connecting two 2 Ohm speakers in parallel results in a total impedance of 1 Ohm.
- Connecting two 4 Ohm speakers in parallel results in a total impedance of 2 Ohms.
- Connecting two 8 Ohm speakers in parallel results in a total impedance of 4 Ohms.
Important Notes:
- It is recommended that all cables have tinned ends to improve electrical contact.
- CAUTION: Before making any connections to the power terminals, ensure the vehicle battery negative (-) terminal is disconnected.
- CAUTION: Due to the presence of voltage at the output terminals when the product is turned on, avoid contact with them. Risk of electric shock.
Installation
General Precautions
CAUTION: All connections to power supply, input, and output connectors must be carried out only with the amplifier OFF.
Recommended Wire Gauge & Fuse
Component | Wire Gauge | Fuse/Circuit Breaker |
---|---|---|
Positive / Negative Power Supply Cable | 4 AWG (21mm²) | 150A |
Output Cables | 9 AWG (6mm²) | - |
Remote Cable | 18 AWG (0.75mm²) | - |
The wire gauge calculation was made considering a maximum cable length of 4 meters. For distances greater than this, it will be necessary to increase the cable sizes.
CAUTION: Using wire gauges below the recommendation will result in power loss and overheating of wiring.
Check polarity and never reverse power supply cables due to the risk of damage to the amplifier. It is compulsory to install protection fuses or circuit breakers as close as possible to the batteries.
Connection Diagram Description
A diagram illustrates the recommended connection setup. It shows the amplifier connected to the vehicle's battery via thick 4 AWG (21mm²) power cables, with a 150A fuse or circuit breaker located near the battery. The head unit is connected to the amplifier's input via RCA cables. The remote turn-on wire (18 AWG) connects the amplifier's remote terminal to the head unit's remote output. Speaker outputs are connected using 9 AWG (6mm²) cables. The diagram also notes that a sufficient battery bank capacity (at least 150 Amps) is required.
Additional Installation Notes:
- Note: In case of using compression drivers and tweeters, a passive filter must be installed in the positive terminal of these components (Consult the transducer's manufacturer manual).
- CAUTION: The entire aluminum surface of the amplifier works as a heatsink. The normal working temperature is 65°C. Avoid contact with this surface when the amplifier is in use.
- CAUTION: This equipment is not suitable for use in places where children may be present.
