Safety Requirements

To ensure proper use, please read through this manual before using the amplifier. It is especially important that you know the CAUTIONS contained herein.

  • The installation of this amplifier must be done by a qualified professional.
  • Wear safety glasses, insulated gloves, and correct tools for installing this product.
  • This amplifier is for use with 12V batteries. Always check the voltage before installing.
  • This amplifier must be installed in a firm place with at least 1" (25mm) of space around the heatsink for proper heat spreading.
  • Never install the amplifier in places exposed to dust, humidity, and water. Pay attention to install it far from fuel tanks, fuel lines, heat sources, and other parts of the vehicle.
  • Be sure to install a protection fuse or a circuit breaker near the battery. Follow the ampere rating as indicated in this manual. Use of an improper fuse or circuit breaker could result in overheating, smoke, damage to the product, injury, or burns.
  • Avoid running wires over or through sharp edges. Use rubber or plastic grommets to protect any wires routed through the car's body.
  • Before making any connection to the amplifier, disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  • When in use, the external surface of the amplifier may become hot. Avoid touching the heatsink area and keep children away from the amplifier.
  • This amplifier may produce high sound pressure levels. Avoid continuous exposure to levels over 85dB to prevent permanent hearing loss.
  • Output connections for speakers may have voltage levels when the amplifier is operating. Make sure that the amplifier is turned OFF before proceeding with any connection or disconnection at these terminals.
  • If you wish to dispose of this amplifier, do not throw it in domestic waste. It must be collected by a used electronic product disposal service for proper recycling.

⚠️ CAUTION: This symbol is intended to alert the user to the presence of important instructions. Failure to heed these instructions may result in risk of injury to the user or damage to the product.

Taramps reserves the right to modify the contents of this document at any time without prior notice and does not have the obligation to apply the changes in units which were previously produced.

Functions and Inputs

The amplifier features five main control and input sections labeled 1 through 5 on its rear panel.

1 - HIGH INPUT L/R (WIRE)

Inputs for signals to be amplified. Connect these to the hi-level output connections (WIRES) from the CD/DVD Player. Using this connector does not require connecting the REMOTE cable, as the BASS 800 amplifier has an audio recognition system that turns the amplifier on automatically. To keep the amplifier ON, a minimum volume is required, typically around 2 to 5 (this may vary depending on the music or CD/DVD Player model). Note that if the CD/DVD player is turned on with volume set to 0, the amplifier will not turn on. In the absence of audio or when the CD/DVD Player is turned off, the amplifier will remain on for approximately 30 seconds.

2 - INPUT (RCA)

Inputs for signals to be amplified. Connect these signals to the RCA outputs of the CD/DVD Player, using good quality shielded cables to avoid noise interference.

3 - LEVEL

Adjusts the amplifier's input sensitivity, allowing for optimal adjustment to the output signal levels of nearly all CD/DVD Player models on the market.

4 - CROSSOVER

Configures the amplifier's operating mode:

  • SUBSONIC: Variable adjustment from 8Hz to 30Hz, which determines the beginning of the amplifier's operating frequency.
  • LOW PASS: Variable adjustment from 60Hz to 250Hz, which determines the end of the amplifier's operating frequency.

5 - BASS BOOST

  • BOOST: Provides a boost for bass signals with a variable range from 0 to +12dB.
  • FREQ: Sets the Bass Boost center frequency, ranging from 35Hz to 60Hz.

LED Indicators

  • ON: Indicates that the amplifier is turned on.
  • CLIP: Indicates that the amplifier is operating at the threshold of distortion.

Output and Power Supply Connector

The rear panel of the amplifier is illustrated with connection terminals:

1 - COOLER

The BASS 800 features an internal fan that cannot be obstructed. This fan is controlled by an intelligent system (Smart Cooler) and operates at maximum speed only after the product reaches a certain temperature level. This function ensures long fan life and silent operation of your amplifier.

2 - SPEAKER

Output terminals (positive and negative) for connecting loudspeakers. Follow the indicated polarity and the minimum impedance recommendation. When combining loudspeakers, the resulting impedance must be taken into consideration.

Diagrams illustrate speaker connections for 1 Ohm and 2 Ohm configurations, showing how to achieve resulting impedances of 1 Ohm, 2 Ohms, and 4 Ohms by connecting speakers in series or parallel.

3 - POSITIVE POWER SUPPLY TERMINAL

Use a 10mm² (7 AWG) cable directly from the positive battery terminal, with a 50A fuse or circuit breaker installed as close as possible to the battery.

4 - REMOTE TERMINAL

Connect this terminal to the remote output of the CD/DVD Player using a 0.75mm² (18 AWG) cable.

5 - NEGATIVE POWER SUPPLY TERMINAL

Use a 10mm² (7 AWG) cable, as short as possible, connected to the negative battery pole.

It is recommended that all cables have tinned ends to improve electrical contact.

⚠️ CAUTION: Before making any connections to the power terminals, ensure that the vehicle battery's negative (-) terminal is disconnected.

Protection Systems

  • SHORT-CIRCUIT PROTECTION: Shuts down the amplifier if a short-circuit or impedance lower than the supported level is detected at the output.
  • LOW VOLTAGE PROTECTION: Shuts down the amplifier if the battery voltage drops below 9V.
  • HIGH VOLTAGE PROTECTION: Shuts down the amplifier if the battery voltage rises above 16V.

Installation

⚠️ CAUTION: All connections to power supply, input, and output connectors must be carried out only with the amplifier turned off.

Recommended Wire Gauge & Fuse

Connection Type Recommended Gauge Fuse Rating
Positive/Negative Power Supply Cable 10mm² (7 AWG) 50A
Output Cables 4mm² (11 AWG) -
Remote Cable 0.75mm² (18 AWG) -

*Calculated considering a maximum length of 4m. For longer distances, you will need to increase the cable gauges.

⚠️ CAUTION: Using wire gauges below the recommendation will result in power loss and overheating of the wiring. Check polarity and never reverse power supply cables due to the risk of damage to the amplifier. It is compulsory to install protection fuses or circuit breakers as close as possible to the batteries.

The installation diagram illustrates a typical setup: a car battery connected to the amplifier's positive and negative power terminals via appropriate gauge cables and a fuse/circuit breaker. Speaker outputs are connected to two speakers. The head unit (CD/DVD Player) is connected to the amplifier's input (RCA or Hi Level) and the REMOTE terminal. The diagram also indicates the minimum required battery capacity (50Ah).

⚠️ CAUTION: The entire aluminum surface of the amplifier acts as a heat sink. The normal working temperature is 70°C (158°F). Avoid contact with this surface when the amplifier is in use.

⚠️ CAUTION: This equipment is not suitable for use in places where children may be present.
