IKEA FENSJÖ Worktop: Installation and Care Guide
Advice for Use
The worktop is constructed from melamine laminate pressed onto particleboard. Melamine laminate is created by pressing together paper impregnated with melamine resin. This process, using heat and pressure, hardens the surface, resulting in a permanent and durable plastic finish upon cooling.
Melamine laminate is ideal for surfaces requiring long-term resistance to daily wear and tear. Modifications to the product are strongly discouraged as additional edge coverings are not provided.
Before Installation
- Store the worktop in a room with normal temperature and humidity levels before installation. Avoid placing it against a warm radiator or on a cold floor.
- When storing, stand the worktop upright on the back edge of its long side.
- Keep the plastic packaging on until you are ready to install the worktop.
- If the overhang exceeds 25 cm, support legs are necessary. Ensure the maximum distance between these legs does not exceed 80 cm.
- Worktops installed above dishwashers, washing machines, or ovens must be protected underneath with the FENSJÖ diffusion barrier.
- This worktop is not suitable for use in wet rooms.
- It is recommended for indoor use only.
Care and Maintenance
- For daily cleaning, use ordinary washing-up detergent, soap, or water. Never use chemicals to clean the worktop.
- If spills occur, wipe them up immediately with a soft cloth dampened in water and a mild detergent or soap.
- Avoid products containing abrasives, ammonia, or bleach. Dry the surface with a clean, dry cloth.
- Do not place hot objects directly on the worktop. Always use a pot stand to protect the surface.
- Always use a chopping board; never cut directly on the worktop with a knife.
- Avoid dragging objects with rough or ragged edges across the worktop, as this can scratch the surface.
- Do not place appliances that emit heat, such as toasters, coffee makers, or kettles, directly over a seam between two worktops, as the heat can damage the seam.
- Never use steel scourers, scourer pads, or similar abrasive products, as they can scratch the surface.
