EKBACKEN Worktop Care and Installation Guide
Material and Properties
The worktop is made of melamine laminate pressed onto particleboard. Melamine laminate is created by pressing together melamine resin-impregnated paper. This process, using heat and pressure, hardens the surface, resulting in a permanent and durable plastic finish upon cooling.
Melamine laminate is chosen for surfaces that need to withstand long-term daily wear and tear. Modifications are generally not recommended, except for necessary cutting during installation, provided edge covering is supplied with the product. If edge covering is not included, modifications are strongly advised against.
Usage Advice
Before Installation
- Store the worktop in a room with normal temperature and humidity levels. Avoid placing it against a warm radiator or on a cold floor.
- When storing, stand the worktop on the back edge of its long side.
- Keep the plastic packaging on until ready for installation.
- Support legs are required if an overhang exceeds 25 cm. The maximum distance between these legs should not exceed 80 cm.
- Worktops installed above dishwashers, washing machines, or ovens should have their underside protected with FENSJÖ or FIXA diffusion barrier.
- Not suitable for use in wet rooms.
- Recommended for indoor use only.
Care and Maintenance
- For daily cleaning, use ordinary washing-up detergent, soap, or water. Never use chemicals to clean the worktop.
- If spills occur, wipe clean immediately with a soft cloth dampened in water and a mild detergent or soap.
- Do not use products containing abrasives, ammonia, or bleach. Dry with a clean, dry cloth.
- Avoid placing hot objects directly on the worktop. Always use a pot stand to protect the surface.
- Always use a chopping board; never cut directly on the worktop with a knife.
- Do not drag objects with rough or uneven edges across the worktop, as this can scratch the surface.
- Do not place toasters, coffee makers, kettles, or other heat-emitting appliances directly over a seam between two worktops, as heat can damage the seam.
- Never use steel wool, scouring pads, or similar abrasive products, as they can scratch the surface.
For Matt Black Surfaces Only
Marks and small scratches can be removed using a melamine sponge.
